Look No Further! Very Charming. 2 Miles From Kemah BoardWalk. Pet Friendly!
The Kemah Cottage offers a unique setting quite different from a beach house or condo. It was built and furnished with love meant for people that enjoy a cottage feeling. The home is extremely comfortable offering antique furnishings and fixtures everywhere. With 2 king size beds, and a Lazy Boy queen sleeper sofa that a hotel quality mattress for extra comfort. Palm landscaping provides privacy from the road and a large, fenced backyard with a doggy door. There is a front and back patio both covered to enjoy your morning coffee with covered parking. Freshly painted and brand new mini splits in every room installed 2023.
The cottage is located in Bacliff, next to Kemah and 2 miles from the Kemah boardwalk. Bacliff's population is 8,000 know as an old fishing town at one time. It is unincorporated with no deed restrictions, so it is unique in its own right. You will see nice homes and cottages next to business and some older trailers. This small town is near everything that the area has offer but is unconventional and some residents do have roosters. I stayed in the cottage for the month of June 2023 and was not woken up by roosters not once.
The cottage is fully equipped with internet and walking distance to a Family Dollar and is located a few blocks from Galveston Bay, 5 min. to Kemah Boardwalk and 15 min. to Galveston Island and Moody Gardens. It is very close to Nasa Space Center and about 20 min. from Hobby Airport and about 30 min. to Downtown Houston.
Check out listing # 4778811, Clifton By The Sea Bungalow, 2 doors down from the Cozy Cottage. This is a 1 bedroom quaint cozy bungalow! Perfect for smaller parties! You can rent out both of my properties together for family gatherings!

Good location but run down neighborhood. Inside was nice. Outside needs some work.
Convenient location. Property was comfortable. It could use a little improvement outside. Overall, pretty nice.

The Cottage
We love the cottage but it needs some attention. The cleaning crew is not doing a good job, the ceiling fans are dirty, the dishwasher leaks, the bed linens, pillows and comforters need replacing badly.
This is our second trip and we’d love to return again but need to see some upgrades made to the property.

Ok, I appreciate this guest bringing these things to my attention. I will mention the ceiling fans to my cleaning help and it is always important to know about water leaks, water damage can be costly. Also, I just purchase new linens and will be in the cottage soon so I am aware of it. I have been looking for some that I like with my decor.
We noticed that you had a lot of Coca Cola antiques. Just wanted you to know that our grandfather Les Kouba is the artist who did the most current Coca Cola logo many years ago while in Atlanta, Georgia. He is deceased now but could draw the logo upside down as so many people wanted him to autograph the logo. It was fun seeing all the antiques.

Great get away
We spent 2 nights here to celebrate my son's 18 birthday. It's a cute/quaint house,(exactly as pictured) and was in a great location for our needs.
Because of our near overwhelming August Texas heat, and the fact that the house's 2 window units and a portable air handling unit struggled at times to keep up, we tried to stay out and about during the late afternoons. Otherwise everything was very comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed.
We hope to be able to stay here again.
...Really loved not having to keep up with keys!!!!!!

I am glad she enjoy her stay. I do listen to my guest and I am at the cottage upgrading the unit in the living area to 22,000 btu which should cover 1300 sq ft and the units in the bedrooms cover 300 each the cottage is only 1200 sq ft. I hope this makes a big difference.

Not what it appears
Property had a dog order that could be smelled through out the property.
Sofa sleeper and it’s bedding was not clean. I had to wash them before use. Property manager did not respond to these concerns.

I had my help go over there 3 times to look at the AC and it came on every time and when they check out my cleaning also said there was nothing wrong with the AC so I think their kids could not work the AC. I had to up my internet plan by 30.00 because his kids did nothing, but game and I have to say this guest and his kids was filthy it took my cleaning help 3 days to clean the cottage and I had to pay her double. I also had pore communication for the toilet issue when I sent my help over, he told my help not to worry about the toilet and address the ac .my water bill was over 200. I gave them a 1 star for their review with VRBO so no other homeowner would have to go through this rental trauma.

Just "ok" - needs work for the price
The house is cute & cozy but not worth the price we paid. The a/c in the main part of the home didn't work, the water in the showers didn't get hot, the cable didn't work, & the neighborhood is a little sketchy. We called the owner about the a/c & cable, she came out the next day, but neither got fixed. We had no a/c for 2 nights & still paid full price. The bed was comfy & the yard was great for the dogs but that's about it.

Sorry this lady was so unhappy. I live in Florida and had just evacuated from Hurricane Irma and prior to that I had evacuated from Hurricane Harvey, also my mother just lost her home in Harvey with 5 ft of water so I had a lot going on and just got into town. The ac is a 500.00 new unit and the drain hose had a chink in it and was not draining water properly All I had to do was empty it and replace the hose which I offered to, but was told not to worry about it. Her husband asked everyone in their party if they were comfortable and they all said they were OK There are 2 other units in the home and the check in date was Sept 8-10, 2 days. Her son was getting married and I guess they did not want me to deal with it. As far as the cable I had to call out the cable company and could not get an appointment during there stay I sure a lot of people had cable issues due to Harvey. This lady did have a large party of 6 along with 4 dogs was not charged for her pets. I do my best to address all issues that is why I have so many good reviews. I find it hard to believe that this lady thinks that 135.00 is paying to much the amount of guest and pets that were accommodated.

In a bad/sketchy neighborhood
This Kemah Cottage is not in Kemah. It is actually in Bacliff and there is a big difference in the 2 towns. After paying over $800 with taxes and fees for 4 nights we were expecting to be in Kemah. After getting home we looked up crime rate in Bacliff and it’s not good. I suggest googling it before making a final decision. The air conditioning is window units and it never got below 82 degrees even at 7:00 in the morning. The surface of the cottage is clean but there is some deep cleaning needed. One of the showers had mold in it.

The cottage was my home for 8 years before I put it up as a vacation rental for the last 7 years with no problems. Bacliff is an older unincorporated town with no deed restrictions diversified in housing to nice homes to older trailers but located 2 miles from the Kemah Boardwalk and if she was any closer to the Kemah Boardwalk my guest would paid much more for what the cottage offers, she paid 135.00 a night for a 2 bedroom home that sleeps 6. I do have 114 reviews with a 4 star rating so all in all the majority of my guest are very happy with the cottage. You can not please every single guest and if I am aware of any problems I do my best to address the issue. I have been told it has been a stifling hot summer but I will have the a/c looked at and also also mention the cleaning to my help.

Mixed bag
The inside of the home is very nice. Some great antiques and interesting pieces of furniture. The home is located in Bacliff, a few minutes from Kemah. Close proximity to Houston and Galveston Island. Johnson Space Center is also near as well.
The area is unincorporated. The property owner had told us before we rented. This means that there are really no zoning laws. The area looks fairly rough with many run down mobile homes and tin shacks. We made the mistake of leaving a car on the street one of the first nights and it was broken in to. Three jackets stolen from the trunk. One over $400. The lawn ie weed patch hadn't been mowed in months. Outside furniture was all dirty and we had to clean it to use it.
The rooster wasn't an issue. In the front bedroom there isn't a door going into the bathroom, just a curtain. Also we couldn't seem to get any cold water in the shower, so it was very hot. The TV has basic service, no ESPN, TNT, or TBS to watch the NCAA tournament. There are a number of remotes with no instructions, so you better know how to change inputs or you won't get the Direct TV to work.
We made the best of it but I wouldn't rent the property again.

Response from VrboOwner on 10 Sept, 2023
We are very sorry to hear about the vehicle that was broken into. The cottage has been a vacation rental for over 4 years now, and my personal home for over 5 years prior to this incident; with no problems. We are curious to know what the police report details?
The cottage provides a 50 ft. of driveway with motion sensor lights and is very private from the street. It is so unfortunate, that these type of incidents happen all over the country. Unfortunately, we as the landlord, have no control over criminal activities and highly recommend anyone renting anywhere, to file a police report immediately, so the neighborhood does not suffer. The location is great, the cottage is well situated, and it always gets good reviews. The renter's insurance, with proper documentation, may have covered this unfortunate loss of property, IF, the guest contacts the owner.
On the advertisement, it is clearly stated; basic cable is offered along with free Roku and Netflix, and instructions are provided on the back of the remote control for the Roku, plus the use of the remote for the TV is basic.
The door to the bathroom it is oval & not a standard door shape; this is why there are curtains and they look fine & serve their purpose. The yard is manicured after the each winter, and is sometimes not completely pristine.
We, strive to keep our guests safe and comfortable. We wish to extend our deepest apologies for this isolated incident.
When we first arrived we were disappointed with the neighbourhood. Itwas mostly old trailer homesin variousforms of disrepair with yards full of junk. There were some houses here and there. the house wasn't very clean when we arrived but my wife washed everything and cleaned it up nicely. The showers were moldy and no matter what she did she couldn't remove it she also washed all the windows so we could see out. The beds were comfortable and the front porch and back deck were very nice. The front porch allowed you to watch all the cars with loud motors and even louder mufflers race up and down the street all day and night with the dogs barking 24/7 and roosters chiming in around 3 or 4 a.m. it was awonderful cacophony of sound. As for our landlord our internet and t.v. went out and took 2 days to fix the second t.v. was ok because its not hooked up to anything. Then the kitchen stove quit. The neighbor came over twice to try and fix it to no avail. The neighbor is a great guy but works fulltime so he's mostly unavailable. So after a week she finally sent out a service tech. but couldn't decide on what to do.She told me i was lucky that it happened near the end of our stay rather than at the start and maybe we should go to walmart and buy a camp stove so could at least heat a can of beans. Finally after 2 weeks we got a new stove. Eating out for that amount of time was an added expense we didn't count on. In our opinionif you have a rental property but live 4 states away you should have a better support system like a property management co. or someone to take care of things in a timely manor so people don't have to wait 2 weeks to get things resolved. We will never be back.

Geez it took 2 days to get Comcast out there to fix the internet. It also took a week in a half to get out to get a repair person to look at the stove and I was told they would have to order a part, so I purchased a new $1000.00 stove, and it took another 5 days to get delivered. I have no control over how long it takes to schedule a technician or delivery time from Home Depot nor do I have control over how long it takes Comcast to schedule an appointment to fix an internet issue. It is my responsibility to make sure issues are addressed in a reasonable amount of time. My neighbor provides maintenance for my property and every time I called him, he went over there. That is as close as I can get to an on-site maintenance person other than hiring a contractor or a repair technician. I am not a hotel. What I will do is hire new cleaning help and have the caulking around the bottom of the shower scraped up and re-caulked which must have been the mold they were referring to which could use recaulking. It states in the bio on VRBO The cottage is located in a small town unincorporated of 8000 with no deed restrictions and offers a mixture of all types of homes. The cheapest lot sells for 80,000 and a lot 10 blocks from the cottage to the bay sell for 500,000 the average price sells for 250,000. There are some older trailers in the mix. Someone could have a rooster along with a couple of chickens due to the price of eggs. Like I said no deed restrictions.

Very disappointed
Arrived to a very cold house. (In the 50s)Could not find a thermostat. This is how we found that there is no central air or heat. AC window units and space heaters. First thing i found was a half full cup of coffee? on kitchen counter that had been there so long it had mold growing in it. The coffee maker had old grounds still in it. The dishwasher had dirty cups and glasses in it. Trash can half full of garbage. Dirty towels in the washer & towels in dryer. Assorted food in fridge. Mold/mildew in front shower. We left and went to hotel. ($114.) Called host and told her condition. Her response was, "are the beds made?" I said yes. Her response, "if the beds are made then the house was cleaned". Later she called back and said the cleaning person was at house and found no dirty dishes. I told her I had pictures. She asked me to text them to her. I called VRBO to get refund. VRBO person said he would call host. He called back and said host refused to give refund. Next morning went back to house since we were not able to throw away $3200.. At house we found moldy coffee cup had been rinsed, not cleaned, still had crusty ring around inside, in the cabinet along with the dirty glasses from the dishwasher. Coffee maker was emptied. Food removed from fridge. Trash still not emptied. Towels still in washer/dryer. We never used any dishes and those dirty cups & glasses are still in cabinet. Spent first days cleaning but mold/mildew could not be removed from shower so just used rear shower. VRBO did refund their fee so that was a little something. Cut our stay short so we didnt lose all we had to pay. Still have pics for anyone to see. Now for neighborhood. If you like barking dogs, lots of loud vehicles and thumping stereos from some surrounding neighbors (as late as 3:40 am), then this is the place for you.

Well, what can I say it states in the listing that the cottage offers window units in each room and heaters, but I have lots of good reviews with minimal complaints. The moment these guests arrived they were unhappy because they could not figure out how to turn on the heater and I had to send over maintenance help to turn it on for them. I guess they felt it should be on when they arrived but the cottage vacant for 2 weeks and I do run the ac or heater 24/7 when no one is there.
They also complained about 4 cups in the dishwasher a dishcloth on floor, and few things fridge. I guess my help left in hurry she is usually more thorough. I told her to send pictures and text everything she wanted address, and I will send my cleaning back over. All this was addressed within the hour. They went back over there, and I received a text back that the heaters were on, and it was cleaned.
I try to do my best.
We stayed during Spring Break and all was well. This was a very special trip for us due to many reasons. It was nice to have a great place to stay and relax. It is very close to so much so we never felt like we did more driving than relaxing which is so easy to do while on vacation.
nice place. everything worked but there was a fence board missing so we could not leave the dog unattended in the back yard. yall will need to get that fixed. Wife loved all the old glasswear and other odds and ends to look at. thanks for the stay.
The property is conveniently situated between Galveston and Houston, allowing for a vacation that includes both areas. The dog door on the property is a huge plus.
Me and my family enjoyed staying at the cotton for two nights, it was very comfy we all loved it.
I recommend to replace the spices for the food they seemed old.

Lots of room
Property was nice, and had lots of room. Did not understand tv system, but made do. Bacliff is centrally located and made a great hub. House is older but in good condition. Owner fixed items quickly. Cleaning service could do a better job with deep cleaning (windows & blinds, ect). Enjoyed our stay.
This was a very charming little house with plenty of decorations. It was well equipped with kitchen items and if you look in the pantry you might even find some extras. The beds were very comfortable.
It's in a neighborhood so that makes things a little more homey.
The owner was very easy to get a hold of and very helpful.
I would definitely stay there again.

House is so neat!
The house is quite charming and really unique. The area that the house is located in is another story, it is very rundown and I am not sure I would have felt safe there without my husband. Also, next door they have dogs that bark constantly!
I wish the house was in another location and I would be back every time I come to town!

I am so glad she liked the cottage it is very private and has a lot of charming character. There is no deed though for the little town. The cottage has been a vacation rental for quite a few years with many reviews and I lived there for 6 years. Can't please everyone.
The house was perfect for what we needed and conveniently located to Dickenson and San Leon (as well as Kemah, but we didn't head that way). Nice, clean, and comfortable, with plenty of space so that we never felt cramped. We would certainly consider staying here again.

About the host
Hosted by Charlie
I grew up in North West Houston and around 15 years ago I moved to the Kemah/Clearlake area and never looked back. People seem to be more laid back and friendly in this area. The Kemah/Clearlake area is one of the 3 largest boating capitals in the United States so if you enjoy power boating or sail boating this is a nice place to live. This area is also very popular with antique car collectors, motorcycle enthusiast and has live entertainment at restaurants and bars. The list goes on and on of things to see and do in this area.
Why they chose this property
I purchased this home from an architect. It is my understanding this home had a small fire and the architect spent sereral years restoring the home. This guy had great attention to detail and is an antique lover. Every where you look you will see interesting antique fixtures, with solid hardwood floors that came out of estate homes and ceiling beams though out the home. I fell in love with the home because it is so unique. Actually I purchased the home for myself and have lived in it the last 4 years. This is why the home is nicely furnished, well equipped and feels like home.
What makes this property unique
This property is very comfortable, charming, romantic, and cozy, and private from the street. If you have pets this is the vacation rental you want to book. Your pet will love the front and back covered patio and the cute backyard which is fully fenced. Guess What? 'No Pet Charge' That is a huge savings.
The things to do and places to go are endless all within 15-20 mins from the cottage. If you book I know you will enjoy your stay.
