Connections:
You can use both the bus and express boat connections in Balestrand. Details are best obtained from the tourist information centre in Balestrand or via the Internet.
The surrounding area:
Even for Norway, this holiday home is in a unique location. Surrounded by beautiful nature, the house is situated directly on the Esefjord near the mouth of the Sognefjord and only 1 kilometre from the historically famous town of Balestrand.
The Sognefjord is the longest and deepest fjord in Europe, about 204 km long and up to 1308 metres deep. The surrounding area with its mighty glaciers and the highest mountains in Scandinavia is considered one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in the world.
There are various hiking routes around Balestrand, with different levels of difficulty and viewpoints from which to marvel at the fjord from above.
In our opinion, the Jostedalsbreen (Europe's largest continental glacier) and the oldest stave church in Norway at Urnes in Luster (UNESCO World Heritage Site) are worth seeing in the "Sogn of Fjordane" area. Other highlights include the world-famous Nærøyfjord, a branch of the Sognefjord (60 kilometres away), a ride on the Flambahn (tours can be booked from Balestrand). On the 20 km long route of the Flam Railway, you can see rivers rushing through deep gorges, roaring waterfalls cascading down steep cliffs and snow-capped mountains with mountain farms on their slopes. The area around Gaularfjellet is also particularly idyllic.
The Jotunheimen National Park or the Sognefjord mountain landscape are also ideal for mountain tours or skiing.
In winter there are also attractive offers, such as a floodlit cross-country ski trail (in the village). Alpine skiing is possible in nearby Sognedal Merh information on this at.visitnorway.de/listings/sogndal-skisenter-alpinskilauf/32511/ or in Hemsedal, which is approx. 2.5 hours away by car. The Hemsedal ski area is located in Hallingdal (Buskerud). There are 52 pistes and 1.7 km of ski routes for skiing and snowboarding. 24 lifts transport guests. The winter sports area lies at an altitude of 620 to 1450 metres. More information can be found at visitnorway.com/destinations/eastern-norway/hallingdal/hemsedal. In and around the Hemsedal ski area, often referred to as the Alps of Norway, there are many different activities on offer: cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and dog sledding are just a few of the activities on offer in addition to skiing and snowboarding. Every winter sports enthusiast's heart beats faster, because skiing in unspoilt nature is becoming less and less possible.
