About this property

Bootlegger's Run

Legend has it that the 1924 cabin was built as a hide out for a bootlegger by the name Worthington Squint. This scoundral allegedly ran liquor during prohibition suppling many locals, restaurants, clubs and visitors with the illegal hard stuff. Many Hollywood stars would visit Lake Arrowhead in the day. Some even claim that Jack Benny would drive up to vacation in Lake Arrowhead, party at the lake and then fill his "second gas tank" with the high-quality "white Lightening".

Today, refurbished in 2021, this cozy private cabin sits on the remote exclusive South-East side of Lake Arrowhead, ready to receive guests for the next 100 years. With the property being "off-the-grid", a guest is well rewarded with ultimate privacy and seclusion. Behind the stone wall, 1000 sf of gated deck space was added for outdoor entertaining and enjoyment of the year round hot tub spa, BBQ, and fire pit. From the upper deck, you will see one of the best views of the lake and sunsets. Not to mention the beautiful changing of color in the maple trees in fall.

The architect owner included many design details such as a rustic tin ceiling, farm sink and modern industrial light fixtues. It is decorated with local mountain art, photographs and antiques. Daydream from the copper claw foot tub as you enjoy the view of the lake or canopy of trees through the large skylight above. Perfect for a romantic get-away.

In the warmer months, there is also a private outdoor cedar shower to enjoy. Snuggle up by the original stone fireplace and oak tree trunk mantle, originally cut on the property when the cabin was built. A family and their furry friend, wishing to relax and get away from it all, would feel right at home. Pet friendly.

Our motto? You will not be found, unless you want to be found!

We respect our neighbors and the peace and serenity of our mountain. If you are looking for a party house, this is not one for you. Repeating. Loud music, conversation and excessive smoking on the deck are prohibited. Normal levels of conversation and music are acceptable of course. We remotely monitor sound on our deck with a meter. Two violations of this rule and the reservation will be cancelled.

We loved our stay at the Bootlegger’s Run!! We are a family of 5 with kids ages 10, 11 & 13 and we all had a great time! The drive up to the cabin is very narrow and curvy so if you’re going during the snowy season it might be a bit rough. There’s two amazing bathtubs and had to enjoy both, my favorite one was the one with the sky light! Every room in the house has amazing views so if you love nature then you’ll love staying here! Tim was very friendly and helpful and easy to get a hold of with any needs we had. I can see this cabin becoming a yearly family tradition.

The cabin was located in a beautiful location. You could see the lake from the property. The road to get to the property is mostly dirt and is very steep with sharp turns. The cabin has beds for 6 people but the seating in the living room is limited to 4 and is very cramped and couch is very uncomfortable. They definitely need to upgrade to a sectional to comfortably seat people. If you have 6 people they would need to sit on bar stools or at the seating area for dining. The TV is very small. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom had hair on the shower walls and shower is very small. Property says it is dog friendly but be prepared to pay 66.66 a day for a dog. Was charged 200 for 3 days. Host was very responsive to any questions we had and were thankful for that.

Phenomenal Mountain Escape

This amazing property is clean and well maintained! The views of the lake from the deck are incredible, and the sunsets are magical. We spent our nights enjoying the fire pit and jacuzzi. The kitchen was easy to use and well stocked with all the dishes and cookware we needed. Close to Arrowhead Village but quiet and serene! Overall an amazing stay

We've rented cabins in the Arrowhead/Big Bear area for over five years, but this one truly stood out as the best. It felt like staying at a beloved family member's home—warm, inviting, and thoughtfully curated with cozy rustic decor in soft neutrals, natural wood accents, and elegant touches throughout. The amenities were exceptional: high-quality lavender-eucalyptus soaps and lotions in every bathroom and kitchen, plentiful fluffy towels, plush bedding on king/queen beds, spa-like showers with rainfall heads, and thoughtful extras like travel-sized essentials. The availability of propane tanks for the grill, fire pit, and heaters was another great aspect, making outdoor evenings effortless and magical under string lights. As a family of four with our pet, we loved the added pet amenities—feeding bowls and dog beds throughout the house—plus plenty of safe space to roam. The private, wooded location was perfect: serene yet close to the village, with stunning views and peaceful mornings on the wraparound deck. The host was responsive, friendly, and provided clear instructions and a helpful guide. We stayed six days and hated to leave—this soul-restoring sanctuary perfectly blends modern comfort with nature's beauty. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed a peaceful long weekend at Bootlegger's Run. The house is as described. Check in, check out and communication was all very easy. Wi-fi worked well for a zoom call. All of the supplies were available in the kitchen to cook meals. I appreciated the starter set up Keurig pods. We enjoyed the outdoor shower too! The house is close to everything we wanted...Lake Arrowhead Village, Blue Jay, Cedar Glen. Everything about the house is easy and comfortable. Thank you for a great place to stay!

Location is fantastic, just minutes from the village. Cabin amenities were thoughtful. Cabin layout is perfect for the amount of guests allowed. I only wish there was ONE larger tv somewhere within the cabin - for those of us who enjoy watching sports. My only two complaints: 1) Bed sheets smelled like mildew - we rewashed them ourselves the day after our arrival.2) We recived a noise complaint from a neighbor at 3PM on a sunny Saturday which I thought was quite ridiculous. Seemingly, the neighbors are used to guests making visits based solely on "serenity". Well, it was my 38th birthday, and my group was more than respectful of the surrounding neighbors. Especially in the evenings.

Peaceful and relaxing

The property was peaceful and relaxing. It was in a quiet area with access to everything we could need but far enough away that it wasn't a bother. The property itself was beautiful and surprisingly spacious. The owner was super attentive and did a good job of making the stay as pleasant as possible. He was also very good about recommending nice places in the area for entertainment and unwinding. We would highly recommend this vacation stay to anyone looking to get away from it all for a recharging escape. Thank you, Tim!

Rejuvenation

Bootlegger’s Run was such a welcome retreat for us! We went there for a Mother-Daughter getaway and it was everything we were hoping for. The views are stunning and the house provided everything we needed to have a few days of leisurely conversations, relaxing hot tub time, and delicious meals. The cozy table area was wonderful for meals and board game playing. This listing lives up to expectations and provides a setting of beauty and comfort for a relaxing and rejuvenating getaway! Cool Cabin

What a fun cabin to relax at and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Arrowhead with beautiful views of the Lake as well. Loved the attention to detail in and outside the cabin. Absolutely loved the outdoor shower. Beautiful spa, super cozy and homey. Well stocked in every way. Very clean as well. Had a little trouble with figuring out the spa, lighting the stove and fire pit. Owner was quick to help us out tho! Would definitely come back again! Thank you ☺️

Cozy and Private Cabin

Four adults thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this homey and cozy cabin. Magnificent stone fireplace (gas) was warming and made our evenings so nice. Cabin is well-appointed and with an open design. Private feel, no neighbors next door. We took nice walks in the neighborhood, and thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub. Things to note: there are stairs down to cabin and to downstairs bedrooms. Final stretch of road to cabin is dirt and could be difficult in rain or snow. We had no problems, but could be challenging in difficult weather.

Magical Forest Getaway🌲

Wow! What an incredible experience it was to stay at Bootlegger’s Run for a few nights. The cabin is even better than the photos and exactly how I wanted to celebrate my birthday. I wished we would’ve stayed longer than 3 nights. It was the perfect getaway from the busy hustle and bustle of city life. It even snowed on the first night of our stay and we woke up to a winter wonderland outside. We were blown away by how well kept, clean, and organized the cabin was. It was stylish and cozy - yet spacious! All of tubs were absolutely divine and I felt like I was in another world relaxing in the hot tub at night. Tim was a great host and he has a lovely gem of a home with its history proudly displayed. We’ll be back soon ❤️

About the host

Hosted by Timothy Gajewski

Host profile image
I am an architect and interior designer who fell in love with this quaint cabin. A 1924 cabin with some history and a "story". I think of her as a beautiful "older" lady. With my love and care, she will shine new for the next 100 years.

Bruno my french bulldog oversees the grounds, ensuring that no squirrels or racoons step foot on the deck.

Why they chose this property

This is romance at it's best! Come cozy up to the fire. Everything is secluded and private. Hearing the wind blowing through the trees on the mountain and seeing the spectacular view of the lake and sunset will make you want to come back again and again.

What makes this property unique

A vintage luxury cabin with modern updates, remote and secluded for privacy but still only a few minutes from the Lake Arrowhead Village for restaurants and supplies.
