The house was very stocked which made the stay with my family of 6 comfortable. Very clean and updated. Close distance to some of the Redwoods hikes. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you Kathy!
Stayed for a long weekend. The home is directly off the highway and you can hear traffic from the kitchen and living room but the bedrooms are at the back of the house and we couldn’t hear the road at all while sleeping. This place is one of the cleanest VRBOs I have been to and really appreciated the quality of care. The grounds/landscaping was absolutely gorgeous and they take a lot of pride in keeping it well landscaped. There are neighbors but felt very private with all the landscaping. Fully stocked with extras even we didn’t expect. Ping pong table kept my family extra entertained. Would highly recommend this home.
Great place to stay. Clean, had everything we needed, 15-minute drive to the coast. Felt safe in this location and would definitely stay again. Great communication with the owner!
The kitchen, living area and bathroom were beautifully remodeled. The bedrooms were a little small and dated but comfortable. Lots of windows! Very well stocked with everything you could need and more! Just be aware if you are an older guest that the oversized tub is very difficult to step in and out of and there isn’t a grab bar. We loved walking to the.hiouchi Café for a delicious breakfast and stopping at the quirky little wood carving shop on the way home. The visitor center is just a mile down the road.
We really enjoyed ourselves & wished to have stayed longer. Centrally located & thoughtfully stocked with anything you could need for a perfect getaway. And it is just cute. Be sure to explore the garden- it is impressive!
We had a great stay in this beautiful home in an awesome little town just outside of the park and a short drive to the beach. Fit us perfectly, thank you for allowing us to stay in your home.
The place is beautifully landscaped and lacking in nothing as far as creature comforts. We particularly enjoyed the proximity to river and redwoods. Would love to come back.
I REALLY loved this property. I felt like every detail was considered. We were left a basket of snacks (how sweet is that!). We loved the movie and game selection. All the condiments i needed were there. It wasn't nice enough outside to play ping pong or last good. But i loved that those were options. Really loved the shower and the heated blanket!! Thanks for a lovely stay!
We loved staying here!
It was the perfect spot for the hiking we did over spring break.
House was fully stocked not only in the kitchen, but laundry room and beach toys too!
The skylights in the home were such a beautiful treat in the AM and the Jacuzzi was fabulous!
Would definitely book again! :)
Place was great- very clean. Location was ideal.
Appreciated the ping pong table in garage.
Landscaping was lovely!!
Only minor negative is the house smelled a little musty.
Best supplied kitchen of any place we’ve stayed in.
Would stay again! Thanks!
What a wonderful long weekend in the redwoods. The area around Jedediah Smith State Park was very important to my father and we spent many summers going up there. The house was a perfect location within walking distance to the state park in the wonderful Hiouchi café. Lovely garden and would absolutely come back again. Hosts were extremely communicative and helpful. Love the trip!
Our time here could not have been better. There were four of us - 3 adults & a 16 year old. There was plenty space & the cabin was very well stocked. Because it rained so much, we stayed in one day - reading, playing cards, watching movies, & chilling in front of a beautiful fire.
We hope to return this summer (no rain) when we can do more hiking, go swimming & maybe kayak in the gorgeous Smith River, & get some beach time- with our HAH (home away from home) in this lovely cabin.
Thanks so much, Kathy!
Ocean waves, tall, tall trees, and family. It doesn't get any better than that! Hiouchi was the perfect getaway. The location is fabulous and the house is adorable. It had everything we needed, and the yard was beautiful! The book with directions and instructions answered every question we had, along with some we didn't think of. Every recommendation was spot on. What a wonderful way to spend a week!
This house is in a good location for visits to J. Smith Redwoods State Park locations such as Stout Grove. We also went to other sections of the Redwoods parks, Trees of Mystery, and Ocean World in Crescent City. It was cold in the house when we first arrived but was nice after the heater in the main room ran for some time. The wood stove and small heaters in each bedroom also helped. Worked well for our family of 7 with the 2 beds, bunkbed, and hide-a-bed. Could use some more microwave-safe dishes. Would return again.
Kathy's house was sweet and inviting. the beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, the backyard gorgeous, and our kids loved the bunk beds and Wii games. communication with Kathy was easy and the local recommendations in the welcome binder were the reason we prefer home stays to hotels.
the house was sparkling clean when we arrived. on our last day, we found some ants coming through the ceiling of one of the bedrooms and Kathy said she would take care it the next day since she lives hours away. despite this, I would still stay here again since everything had exceeded my expectations.
After looking through several listings, I was so glad to find this little gem. My hubby and I were planning on doing a day hike through some redwoods trails. And this home is literally 20 minutes from the trailhead. It is also within 15 minutes of town for stores or restaurants. The home itself is perfect with a large kitchen, cozy front room with fireplace, two bedrooms, That can accommodate at least six people plus I believe the couch was a fold out. Bright, clean, cozy, and perfectly situated for many outdoor activities with the river nearby as well as coast. The house is extremely well stocked, and the owners communicated. Well we would highly recommend! - oh and there is a gas station with small well stocked store and a small café within walking distance
Great for short trips to nearby trails and beaches. ~90 minute drive to “tall trees grove” and “fern canyon” (needed permit in advance for both). Smith river access and beach area was awesome. We could live in this house, it had everything we needed. Lots of small details to make everything convenient.
