About this property
Authentic early 1900's farmhouse! Cozy, Quirky, full of charm and history!
This is an authentic all-American farmhouse where farmers who raised premium bred cattle and hogs lived for many years! This IS NOT a Chip & Joanna Gaines, HGTV or Country Living version of a farmhouse. This is the real deal!
We love this old farmhouse, and we hope you do too! We've worked very hard to make this a lovely place to stay, here is what you can expect....
This house has been cosmetically updated, not "renovated, gutted or re-done" which means it might seem a bit old, a bit well worn, a bit quirky but full of charm, some original artwork and history, history, history!
High speed fiber optic broadband Wi-Fi (so grateful, it was still dial up less than 10 years ago)!!
The house is cooled in the summer with window AC units. Each bedroom has its own AC unit and there's a centrally located window AC unit in the dining room. The house is heated by a (brand new!) counterflow convection heater in the dining room with additional electric units in each bedroom for added comfort. The Sunroom bedroom is a three-season room and not heated during cold winter months (Jan-Feb) when it's consistently below 20 degrees F. There are space heaters and fans available for use as needed. You may be concerned about not having an HVAC, but I can assure you the house is comfortable year-round with what is in place!
The shower tub is an insert that sits over the existing cast iron tub. These inserts have flexible tub floors to accommodate different tub shapes, so you'll notice a little squish, this is normal and nothing to be concerned about. We've added a new shower head, handrails and anti-slip strips.
We have a new firepit with a gravel surround and built in seating. We currently have a nice supply of wood to burn from our apple tree!
**We are not handicap accessible, there are multiple sets of 2-3 steps around the house. **We are pet friendly, but dogs have to be included on the reservation. We don't allow dogs in the beds or on the furniture. Dogs that shed and puppies need to be kept in the kitchen. If we find these rules have been violated there is an additional $25 cleaning fee and we will charge the replacement cost for bedding if it can't be cleaned.
**Farm Tours are available at request- Our Farm has been in the family since 1865, we have 3 farmstead locations all within a half mile of each other. Tours may include a wagon ride, viewing a real 1800's log cabin, snuggling with goats, barn kitties and horse kisses**
Enjoy beautiful Sunsets and Sunrises year-round! Enjoy the firepit (wood provided), Grill and outdoor patio in the Summer and bring your snowshoes and cross-country skis for the Winter time! Northwood's Country Club with their "Nasty Nine" Hole Golf Course is located behind the house.
Located on the most popular country road in the county referred to as "the loop." People enjoy walking, biking, running and driving the loop because of the paved road, easy access from town, beautiful country scenery and bridge crossing. Ochee Yahola Park with wooded trails is located just off the loop past Burgett's Bridge, about a 1.5mi from the farm.
*A common North Iowa Farm pest are orange lady bugs, flies, and box elder bugs. We spray multiple times a year, but you may still encounter them around the house and farm. *Exterior security cameras viewing the property and entrances to all buildings recording 24/7. *RBR Massage & Bodywork Studio located on the same property, but tucked out of site from the house and has its own parking,

Paige was awesome to work with as she offered us early check-in and extended check-out. She answered all of my questions promptly. We were in town for our daughter's wedding and were able to accommodate our adult children, spouses and granddaughter with plenty of beds. It was super to be able to relax for a bit in between the preparations and celebration. The home was clean and reminded me of our first home.
My friends and I recently had the pleasure of spending the weekend at Red Boar Ridge. We were very comfortable and found the location the perfect distance from the wedding venue and Diamond Jo. Would stay again!
We used this location for home base going to concerts at the Freeborn County Fair. Great location, very quiet, nice fire pit, nice owners nice experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Red Boar Ridge! We were in town for a wedding and booked the rental as a home-base for our long weekend. Everything we needed was available for our use (washer, dryer, blow dryers, towels, etc) which made packing for our travels real easy. Check-in was super easy.
We had a wedding in the area and wanted somewhere cozy to stay with our two children. Paige’s farmhouse was perfect and both kids enjoyed it. We were able to go on a farm tour one morning and had a blast!
Stayed here while visiting friends close by. The Red Boar Ridge was very comfortable and we loved having the room to enjoy our visit. Very clean! The hosts do a great job! Thank you!
We loved the farmhouse! We typically stay in cabins in Iowa's state parks when we take a short break. This was a different experience for us. I really liked that we only had to pack clothes and food. The farmhouse included EVERYTHING that we could possibly need. I appreciated the composting and recycling. Our main reason for visiting the neighbourhood was to go to the Fossil and Prairie Center near Rockford. We spent 2 hours there and found enough fossils to make us happy! Other adventures were: the SPAM Museum, the nearby casino to eat and watch a football game, the Jolly Green Giant in Blue Earth, and some geocaching.I would recommend the farmhouse to anyone and would happily book it again.
Our stay was excellent. The farmhouse was just as advertised. The location was perfect for a family with young kids to be out in the country, but not remote or hard to get to. The house had plenty of space for us to not feel like we were on top of each other. Our kids enjoyed seeing the animals on the farm and playing in the snow!
This location was perfect for my daughter over her wedding! It was quaint and cozy for everyone. They all really appreciated the water cooler too. Thank you so much for all of your communication and friendliness
The house is very cozy. It's out in the country but town is not far away which is convenient. Great price for the size of house that you get. My gf and I enjoyed our stay. Plus they do allow you to bring your dog! Just keep them off the furniture and beds. We would visit again if we're in the area and would recommend it to others.
Highly recommend if ok with one bath. I would recommend. Great value. The sun room - Bed room does get very warm due to all the windows. AC Split was not working for us but fortunately the temps dropped to 36 from 78 the weekend we stayed. Very clean plenty of towels and hairdryer with iron and washer and dryer. Thank you Paige
We loved the decor! The house was perfect for our group. We were in town for a wedding with our 2 children, my sister and her husband and my college aged nephew all stayed with us. We only wished the refrigerator had an ice maker, but that is not a deal breaker. The town was adorable and we felt welcomed everywhere we went. It was a rainy weekend, so we didn’t do much adventuring.
Stayed in Northwood for an extended family gathering and wanted a place to socialize with my smaller group. Great dining table for playing games with the kids safely asleep nearby. A working farm, so kids need to be 100% supervised, but that's true anywhere. Plenty of space for outdoor fun though!
Hi! The property is a beautiful location. The farm is rented out to other folks for livestock and maybe more. The house is an old farm house, which we're used too. It's very charming! The beds are great! The AC did work with the window units and fans. The patio room is very nice. The front bedroom is also very nice. The upstairs bedroom needs new floor coverings. The inside needs cleaned better. There is too much heavy dust and then there were many lady bugs on the carpet. The AC unit remote in the patio bedroom didn't work, but was able to find a battery. Paige is a great host! She happened to be out of town, but no problem. Our family really enjoyed being together instead of separate hotel rooms or hotels. Thank you for renting to us!
This farmhouse is very cute! Paige is also very communicative! There are lots of amenities the property offers we didn’t get the chance to take advantage of.
Being an old farmhouse it does have some of the typical things you would expect. The only things we would have really liked to have change are the doors to the bedrooms. The one off the dining room is a sliding barn door and since the house sloped backwards, it wouldn’t stay closed. The second bedroom had a proper door with a nice big window in it, but no curtain to provide privacy.
If you are a light sleeper, that second room might be a bit tough for you. It has a lot of amazing natural light, and you can hear the sounds of the birds singing to you as your natural alarm clock. I did find that some of the windows wouldn’t lock shut so perhaps if they were more securely shut, the sound wouldn’t penetrate as much.
The house was perfect for a neighborhood Dad's trip to play some golf, cards, and relax. The house is right next to the Nasty Nine golf course and very close to the casino.
The farmhouse was charming and had all the necessary components for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. It was nice to be out in the country but still within easy driving range of many activities.
We were in town for our daughter's wedding. The property offered us a peaceful place to get away from the hectic wedding activities. It was also perfect for our family as it gave everyone enough space to be in without getting in each other's way. The bridesmaids were able to enjoy their morning getting ready together in a very comfortable, homey atmosphere. The home provided everything that we needed and even reminded me of my grandparents' farm from my childhood, which was an unexpected perk. Also, Paige was extremely accommodating when I needed to come back and look for a missing item after check-out.
My brothers and sisters gathered at this property to celebrate our mother's 90th birthday. The house was large enough to allow for family dinners and conversation around the dining room table but also gave us the space to have a little quiet time, if needed. The yard was so nice and provided a backdrop for some memorable family photos and videos.. I also have to give a shout out to Donnie, who went above and beyond to make sure we all had a wonderful time.
After not being able to get a room at the casino we decided to stay at this VRBO and I am so happy we did! This house is great and had everything we could need. The kitchen was equipped for us to prepare our own food, TV's in every room, soap in the bathroom, multiple areas to gather, bedrooms were very large and it was very clean and organized. The artwork and decorations in the home were also very welcoming. 10/10 I would stay here again.
