In addition to extensive forest areas Markkleeberg has the Cospudener lake and the Markkleeberger lake with high recreational value.
Around the banks of the lakes there is a large network of cycling and hiking trails. Fine sandy beaches offer the opportunity to relax and swim in the summer and the 9-hole golf course right on the lake invites to sporting activities. In addition, there is a large harbor with cafes, shops and promenade and on Markkleeberger lake is one of the most modern whitewater park with a canoe park.
Infrastructural Markkleeberg is very well developed. Due to the restructuring of the S-Bahn traffic after completion of the Leipzig City Tunnel you reach the city center of Leipzig within a few stations.
The main road B2 and the A38 with connection to the A9 and A14 can be reached within a few minutes by car.
