About this property

Traditional Hawaiian House - Walk to Tunnels Beach

TVNCU #1146 - A gated entrance leads you through a 6 foot lava rock wall toward the rear, ground level peaceful house. Privately tucked away, on the Mauka (mountain) side of the road, behind a front house (where the housekeepers live), the rental house sits. Capture unobstructed mountain and waterfall views behind the rear yards lush private conservation lands where occasional donkeys, cows, or horses graze. The rear lanai is 50' x 10' adjacent to a similar garden backyard. Step inside the house to enjoy the cedar wood walls, local artwork. It is is well stocked including a 2 man kayak, 4 soft top boards, 1 boogie board, 5 bikes, 4 beach chairs, 4 mask fins and snorkels, and more. The front house is occupied by two local longtime tenants who are the housekeepers as well. Please note that this property is located in a tsunami evacuation zone and there is air conditioning in each bedroom. Dreamlike vacation home
This was our second time staying at this house. We are already planning our 3rd trip there. The house is very clean, beds are comfortable, fluffy towels, and a well stocked kitchen. They also have everything you would need for the beach. But the best part is the outside views! We almost never wanted to leave the lanai. The views are dreamlike. From rainbows to waterfalls, and horses walking around the back area it’s spectacular. The outdoor shower and bath are a major perk! We can’t wait to go back.

Although, not beach front, we loved staying here.
It was comfortable, unique and beautiful scenic view of the mountain with waterfall. Perfect for 2 couples Two private bedrooms with private bathrooms. It was unique taking a warm shower outside or tub bath right on the deck. As an animal lover I enjoyed when the donkeys (I named them Junior and Momma) would stop by the fence for carrot snacks. Various little geckos jumping around the fence and random chickens strolling by. The walk to the beach was easy. The quickest one was turning R and walking down to the other side of the camp. The only bothersome thing was a neighbor that seemed to run his lawnmower 5 min., stop, then do it again. That happened several times, but otherwise a peaceful location.

Perfect Hawaiian home
Such a cute tranquil little spot. It’s what I envisioned when I thought of staying in a traditional Hawaiian home. Green mountains out the back door, farm animals roaming on the other side of the fence, lush gardens all around, cozy lanai. Walking distance to Tunnels was a perk. Loved it all!

Heavenly
From the moment we stepped in the door we felt a zen like peace. Stunning home and view. The photos and descriptions sounded almost too good to be true but if anything the home surpassed expectations. In addition to the overall engaging vibe the home had all the features of a luxury experience. Comfortable beds and furnishings, great bathrooms, well stocked kitchen, ceiling fans so effective we didn’t need the ac, quality bedding, towels, and equipment. We didn’t want to leave. Highly recommend.

What makes this property unique

Get an advanced pass to Haena State Park as the Ke’e beach is beyond park parameters and you cannot access it without the pass. s
Set your calendar to get your pass exactly 30 days before your intended visit. Also note even though the home is really close to the park entrance, you still will likely need shuttle bus service to get inside because parking passes are very limited. Make sure you email the park a few days from the time you’re planning to go and let them know you want to get on the shuttle bus at Hā’ena Beach so you don’t have to back track to catch the shuttle.
With your car or our bikes you can easily drive to Haena Beach Park, Tunnel beach, or the end of the Kuhio Hwy road to the guard gate.
But, if you want to go to Haena State Park, the website to book a shuttle ride is https://gohaena dot com. It is a must for you to check it out.
Normally , everyone needs to drive back toward Hanalei ( it is too far to ride a bike there) at Waipa Park and Ride at 5-5631Kuhio Hwy. Park in the shuttle parking lot to catch the shuttle from the start, unless you email them proof of your reservation at our home 2 days prior. Then you could ride the bikes to the shuttlestop at Hanalei Colony Resort (to the east about 1 mile from house) or Haena Beach Park parking lot (to the west about 1 mile from house)
Also, unfortunatly, security is tight at the gate entrance to Haena state park. from sunrise to sunset. Unless you are are a resident, you can't get in during the day unless you are lucky enough to get a walk in pass on the https://gohaena website

As per website:
"Shuttle riders MUST check in at Waipā Park & Ride FIRST, then you can get on or off at any stop. Staying in Wainiha or Hā‘ena? Email us proof of accommodations address along with reservation WS# 2+ days prior for approval to board at a nearby stop"
