Tucked away in Piney Island, just minutes from Assateague's nature trails and beach, this quaint cottage is perfect for the whole family. A brand new, recently added, Master suite adds space and an extra bathroom to this classic Chincoteague home.

Pet friendly home . $75.00 (per pet) will be added to your reservation. THIS HOME IS NOT PROVIDING LINENS OR TOWELS SO BRING YOUR OWN OR CALL US TO RENT THEM.

Cancellations made 30 days prior to arrival will receive 100% of refund of all monies minus $ 39 Processing Fee and Any Credit Card Convenience Fees Paid.  If less then 30 days: the advanced rent is only refundable subject to the following: The property is re-rented for the same period. Re-rental of less than a full week will be refunded on a pro-rated basis. The Agent will retain a $39.00 processing charge and any convenience fees charged. *Deposits are not refunded for ANY reason (including bad weather).

The cottage could use some updates though. The couch had a strong dog smell (and we stay at a lot of dog friendly properties), the beds were semi comfortable and master bathroom tub was draining slowly. Screened porch was great.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This rental was really cozy and fit the bill for our vacation needs. There are lots of great activities nearby and it’s a central location for many of them. Not sure why the noise ordinance allows construction to begin at 7am in a town that is a vacation destination? Three days straight we were awoken by the banging and hammering of a construction crew working on a deck/addition directly behind us. It felt like the hammer was driving a nail directly into our house!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We love this house and where it is. Has had some major space upgrades since our last stay. Owners need to upgraded the AC in the living room very noisy. They also need to resupply the silverware and dinnerware. The house sleeps 6 to 8, however there was only 4 forks to eat with. You have to resort to plastic utensils and paper plates to get by. Beyond that because of the location and pet friendly status of the house is a winner. We would love to come back to Kate's.

Only issues were that it was dusty everywhere/had bugs smashed here and there on the walls. It needs a good deep clean. The master was really nice nice, but we don't believe that the wall unit was working correctly. It was pretty warm in the master bedroom all the time. We did contact the management about it and they brought us an extra fan right away and said they would check on both issues.We would still stay there again.

Reviewer Comments: This house has a great screened-in porch, where we ate all our meals, and a good-sized well-outfitted kitchen (but we should have brought our small cast-iron frying pan). The only drawback was a strong odor of something like a disinfectant when we arrived. That took a while with windows open to clear out, but as the weather was pleasant, this was easily done.

A peculiar odor wafted up from the AC in the master bedroom, not enough to make us sick but... It was just the two of us, so washing dishes made up for the reasonable rental fee.

All you need and more!

There is an abundance of wildlife in the area and it's very quiet. The house has all you'd need: beach chairs, boards, an umbrella, etc. and it's pet friendly. It also has a lot of dust, dirt and cobwebs. It seems the area beyond the bathrooms and kitchen hadn't been cleaned in a long, long time. So, we had to do our own clean up, which isn't the first thing you want to do on vacation. However, the price, location and pet accommodation make up for that.

Nice, basic little house with a few problems. Quite a bit of animal hair on the floors, which let us know they hadn’t been cleaned before our arrival. The couch smelled so much like ‘dog’ that we couldn’t use it without smelling the same way ourselves. But the real concern is that there is a mold issue there. Those with allergies, like myself, should beware. Steps to ameliorate that should be taken. We eventually left a day early because of it. Despite those problems we did enjoy our stay.

Love this house

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It's small, but the addition is nice, and it has everything you need. The location is perfect - Piney Island is close to the Refuge, quiet, and there is a canoe/kayak put-in in the neighborhood you can use. You can also walk to a convenience store which also makes subs and good soups. Being allowed to bring our dog is a nice perk. This was the first house we ever rented on Chincoteague, 11 years ago, and even though we've generally moved on to bigger, fancier houses, my daughter requested we return to Kate's Cottage this year as she's heading off to college in a couple of days and is very sentimental. Harbour Rentals is very responsive to any questions or concerns.
