Celebrated our 21st anniversary here. Home was perfect Nice location very secure and clean Host answered all questions in a timely manner. Veryvery helpfull.very veru hrlpful.
Owner was flexible and responsive. Appreciated the neighborhood and location. Beds were comfortable and cozy. Kitchen had all we needed. Grill and patio furniture in backyard. Had a great stay here.
The Hickory House was a great spot for us to stay as we explored Dayton's interesting history. Central location with unique local food and drink options! Clean and restored with character.
Nice cute house. Clean and comfy. Really comfy beds, good hot shower with water pressure. We weren't there for very long but the back yard, kitchen and laundry would have been great had we needed them. Parking is on the street but we had no trouble parking with in a couple houses. Felt safe and secure. Road noise was minimal.
Nice little house that provided everything we needed and more. Nothing but positives for our experience staying at The Hickory House. We would stay there again.
I am a reasonable person who rarely leaves negative reviews. However, this property is not something I can recommend. The stairs were very, very steep (my 7 year old had to scoot down instead of walk down). My wife found 7 spiders in one day. And, my wife and child witnessed a car broken into on the same street in broad daylight, which was very concerning. Further, the owner was not customer service friendly when approached with these matters and utilized some incredibly interesting approaches when provided accurate information.
The Hickory house is an excellent place to stay while in Dayton. It is conveniently located to many different areas including Dayton University, hospitals, and the Oregon district. The house was exceptionally clean, well-maintained and very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay, and would definitely book again.
We loved this house. Such character! Block is full of renovated old classic homes. Everything inside was great and as described. Even an amazing gift at check in. We would love to stay again!!
We absolutely loved our stay at the Hickory House! It is such an adorable home in a safe neighborhood. It was perfect for our dance competition at the convention center.

What an awesome stay we had at the Hickory House! The host was amazing and the property was so homey, welcoming and so clean and our host Laura left us the most amazing brownies, along with other snacks and water. I would highly recommend the Hickory house and would 1,000 percent stay there again
4 of us went to Dayton for a retirement get a way. Went to the airforce mus. and The Century bar. Very close to down town without being hectic. Clean, cute house. comfortable beds. Would stay again. Only negative is the shower head needs replaced.
We really loved all of the little thoughtful things around! They definitely make you feel at home! The towels and blankets were so fresh and clean!
The emails for the check-in/check out process were sent a little later than preferred but its okay!
The front steps were a bit tricky to navigate. We also wished the shower would have a grab bar or traction on the tub base, it was a bit slippery! There is no bathroom fan so it was tough to dry out the room after showering.
Overall it waa a very cute house and we would definitely stay again!
We had an amazing stay at The Hickory House! From the moment we walked in the door, we felt at home and very much welcomed! We had everything we needed and then some. The home was super comfortable, clean, updated...truly felt as a home away from home. The location is amazing, walking distance to local coffee shops and eateries. Easy access to highways. We will definitely stay when we are in the area again.
Where to start...the house itself is great, clean, updated, charming, the list goes on. The hosts were fantastic, they left us a welcome snack basket and were extremely responsive and helpful. The location of the Hickory House is really just the cherry on top. We were able to walk to just about everything we wanted to do and Dayton has plenty to offer. There was a German/Oktoberfest happening just down the road and it was such a fun time. The Dayton Dragons have a nice stadium in the heart of downtown and people sure get behind their local team. Plenty of great restaurants and breweries all within a walk or cheap uber ride. If you are ever planning a trip to Dayton do yourself a favor and book the Hickory House you will not be disappointed.
The property was great! Lovely area in old Dayton/Oregon District. The local treats were great! My gf educated me on the local intricacies; pubs/ breweries, Mike Sell's, etc... and to top it all off, it snowed which doesn't happen often in SC! Furniture was comfortable. Property set in a convenient location for food, entertainment & drinking. You could tell the beding was freshly laundered( which we appreciated). We'll have to come back again (probably when it's warmer). 10 out of 10 HIGHLY recommend!
Hickory House is a great alternative to an ordinary hotel. Charming, cute and cozy. Close proximity to Oregon Historical District and downtown. We walked downtown to Riverscape for Celtic Festival. Note: renters need to be able to negotiate steep steps entering house and to second floor. Railings are a bit wobbly. A grab bar in bathtub/shower would be helpful. All-in-all a good experience.

Hickory House wedding visit
We were in town for a few days to attend a family wedding. We found the property yo be wonderfully furnished and decorated. Everything we needed was there including a thoughtful basket of snacks and chilled bottles of water. Our only complaint was there were many dead flies and spider webs in all the corners and edges of the rooms. I swept up some with the broom and dustpan provided. A small vacuum would be a great addition. Overall, we had a great stay and would come back.
This was a great experience with Laura!
The property was exactly as described. She was quick to respond with any questions and provided all of the information we needed for our stay. It’s a cozy place. Very warm and welcoming. I’m a student from out of town. A classmate stayed with me, and this was convenient as it is close to campus and restaurants/bars, etc. I really enjoyed staying here. We had everything we needed, even laundry supplies. Laura also left me a gift basket and card, which was the sweetest thing of all. She’s a fantastic host. Check this property out. You won’t regret it!
This is a really cute place close to downtown. We were in town for a wedding so it was nice to have a place with a full kitchen, laundry that was close to downtown. Nice amount of amenities from a welcome basket of snacks, coffee, iron, laundry soap, make up remover packs and towels. With being there for a wedding and having multiple people getting ready at the same time, the bathroom is small so have to find other areas to get ready. Would be nice to have a full body mirror downstairs so you don’t have to go upstairs. :) other than that, clean and welcoming with room to spread out. Great place for an extended stay where you wound need to cook, grocery shop, and wash laundry.
This area in town seems to be getting fixed up in places, but you will see some abandoned homes and businesses close by. I did not feel unsafe, but we did have to walk on the other side of the street a few times while walking places with the kids. If your use to city life, think this will be normal for ya. :) There are a lot of unique eateries, pubs, and shops in walking distance which was great since we like adventuring, trying new things, and walking places.
Would stay again and love staying somewhere unique rather than a hotel where you can see and experience local parts of the city.
Thank you!
This house is so well-designed, well-equipped, simple and yet elegant. Comfy beds. We were glad we picked this place, and will again if we are in Dayton, 2020 basketball champs.
Laura is a wonderful host. I have stayed here so many times this year and Laura has been nothing but a great hostess and very easy to get a hold of if needed. I love this place and would highly recommend it.
