The Retreat at Hanging Rock was an amazing property. It was the perfect size for my family and had great amenities. It is in a picture perfect location and was truly worth the value. It is in a great location and I would highly recommended. 5 stars for everything!
Our cabin was very clean and spacious and had a beautiful large back deck overlooking a field. Our host Jane was pleasant and helpful. We would stay here again!
Property was as advertised and with great views. Very clean, well stocked and well maintained. Jane was a great host and was very pleasant to deal with. I highly recommend this property
We loved our stay at the property! Everything matched the description and the location was great for tubing and visiting Hanging Rock. Would absolutely stay here again!
Cabin was nice, location was peaceful. Except for the construction nearby, not the host fault but it did take away from the relaxing environment. Biggest issue was the amount of insects, there were endless ladybugs and stink bugs throughout the cabin. Pretty sure there was a large nest of them in the basement that was locked because it never ended we constantly had to clear out bugs from each room. They were in the coffee maker as well so we didn’t use that, and the lamp over the dining table was filled with dead bugs. Host seemed polite only interacted thru the app. The kitchen did have every amenity we could ask for and that made it possible to have home cooked meals during our stay. I did get cut on my wrist from a small piece of metal stuck in the couch cushion. The internet was out during our stay probably could have checked with the host but there were more pressing matters for our visit so didn’t spend a whole lot of time in the cabin. Overall it was very nice and made the stressful visit more manageable with the peaceful location.
We had a very nice weekend getting together with family we hadn’t seen in a while. We spent a lot of time sitting on the deck, chatting and enjoying all the trees.
Easy check in/check out. Beautiful view
And clean cabin. Our family enjoyed the peace and quiet and seeing all of the bunnies that lived near the property.
This was our second time staying at this cabin, and we appreciated the updates that have been made since our last visit. Everything was clean, comfortable, attractive, and easily accessible.
Enjoyed our visit - cabin was very clean and perfect for our two families. Enjoyed the beautiful fall weather and hiking at Hanging Rock (Cabin is very close) and traveled into Winston Salem for Saturday night. Great time!
Beautiful cabin. 10 out of 10. Would stay here over and over again. Family came down for the weekend for a wedding at Luna Trail. Was not far from the venue. Located right at Hanging Rock Park which we enjoyed on Saturday.
I’ve been to the property before and it didn’t disappoint on this return trip! This property is extremely well managed. There was an issue with the AC but upon arrival the manager informed me that service was on the way. The repair was handled within an hour of our arrival. Thanks so much for a second wonderful visit!
My siblings and our families gathered to celebrate our Mother's 88th birthday in the beautiful countryside. The house is well appointed and had everything we needed. Wonderful experience.
What a great stay we had! We were looking for Covid privacy and distancing and that's what we got! It was great! The cabin was clean, functional for our needs, and relaxing with the comforts of home. We really enjoyed the close hiking at Hanging Rock and cooking in, playing games and relaxing. Thanks for sharing your lovely space with us!
Poor weather prevented us from enjoying the deck and fire pit, but we thoroughly enjoyed cocooning in the cabin. Only problem was lighting the gas fireplace. Recommend that the hostess light the pilot, so all that is left is turning the fire on.

About the host
Hosted by Tom and Mercedes Martinez
Hi there, my name is Tom, and along with my wife Mercedes, we're excited to welcome you to our family cabin. We truly love the Triad area, especially the charming town of Danbury, which has embraced us as our own family and where we have built our second home. When we first came to Danbury, we fell in love with its natural surroundings, its friendly folks, and the overwhelming feeling of community and wholesomeness reminiscent of a bygone era.
Why they chose this property
We bought this property because we fell in love with the area, its unspoiled beauty, and its proximity to the Hanging Rock State Park, the Dan River, and Pilot Mountain State Park.
What makes this property unique
The cabin sits nestled within a 43-acre private wooded area. On the property itself, you will enjoy making home-cooked meals, toasting s'mores in the fire pit, watching the star-studded nights, and waking to dew-kissed mornings. Hiking the property through its own trails, creeks, and crossing over to the Dan River is a calming and healthy exercise.
