About the host
Hosted by Rose McClure

Johnnie and Rose McClure met 17 years ago while working together at Galloup's Slide Inn Fly Shop and Lodge. Rose, the full time host and property caretaker moved from the Pacific Northwest to Montana to work as a pastry chef at a luxury resort back in 2005. It was also supposed to be a summer adventure for her but after experiencing the Montana lifestyle there was no looking back. She loves wearing the "many hats" that hosting in Montana provides and has worked in various capacities doing just that over the years.
Johnnie is from Chicago but after coming to the Madison Valley to take a summer job in the Fly Shop at Galloup's Slide Inn 20 years ago where he fell in love with the rural lifestyle. After completing his English degree at UVM he chose to use his teaching skills on the river as a fishing guide rather than in the classroom. He has pretty much been on a river for at least part of most days ever since. He loves helping people relax on the water, find big fish and sharing his love of fishing with guests.
For the McClure's every guest is an opportunity to share that feeling of childlike wonder and enthusiasm that comes with experiencing such a vast and beautiful landscape. After years of working towards the goal of having a property of their own to welcome guests together they are happy to Welcome you to the Grasshopper Guesthouse!
Why they chose this property
We are located about halfway between Ennis and West Yellowstone on the Highway 287 Scenic Route. Hop in the car or set out on foot to be boating, fishing, hiking, or just enjoying the Big Sky views in no time. The neighborhood is quiet, mostly consisting of vacation retreats. The neighbors are friendly and used to guests coming and going but everyone is here to retreat and enjoy peace and privacy.
What makes this property unique
We are located at the end of a well maintained gravel road. The property has a unique landscape and is a veritable geology lesson. It is scattered with monoliths and rock gardens and has a gradually sweeping walk down to the river.
The apartment itself is perched atop the owner's workshop but rest assured that the Airstream and shop spaces will not be occupied while guests are in residence unless there is a need to address a guest maintenance need. The apartment is in brand new condition and is laid out in a bright and airy bunkhouse configuration. We have a 10+ acre lot with the owner's house and the guesthouse spaced out to provide each residence with close to 5 private acres of breathing room with a common garden and river access. You can access the river and public land via the driveway or down the garden path. Please feel free to enjoy the landscaped places and enjoy the scent of the lilacs and cherry trees and bushes. There are multiple outdoor seating areas scattered throughout the property so you can pick from many panoramic views.
