An ideal villa to "get away from it all" in the winter sun

Les Terrasses Vertes is a well-appointed modern villa with great, traditional Moroccan touches in its design and décor. It is about 10 minutes' drive from the beach in Essaouira (or about 15 minutes from the Medina), in an exceptionally quiet rural location. The three bedroom suites are "self-contained", each with a double bedroom, shower/WC and terrace with couches. There is also a large terrace in front of the main part of the villa with further couches and an outside dining area, facing the pool. Inside the villa is a very large sitting room and a large kitchen with dining area. We went over Christmas/New Year and had three weeks of virtually uninterrupted sunshine and blue skies, with temperatures between 19 and 22C in the shade - in the sun, it was hot enough for sunbathing. Only one of our party was brave enough to take a few brief dips in the swimming pool - which she said was a "bracing" experience! Renting a car is essential to get around and do the shopping (Carrefour supermarket, which also sells alcohol, is on the way into Essaouira), but you can also arrange for taxis to take you into town and back if you want to have an evening out with some drinks and don't want to have a "nominated driver" - it was about 150 dirham (15 euro) each way on New Year's Eve, which I thought was very reasonable, especially compared to usual London prices! The Medina in Essaouira is a great place for shopping and eating and the beach is long and sandy, with some good bars and restaurants from which to watch the sea and the impressive sunset. The surf is good for beginner to intermediate surfers, and a camel-ride is a "holiday essential". The owner of the villa was very quick to respond to messages before the holiday and could not have been more helpful during the holiday - he really was a pleasure to deal with. I was looking for somewhere to relax completely for three weeks in warm sunshine and quiet isolation, and also to enjoy Christmas and New Year with my (adult) children. This wonderful villa provided everything I wanted. I would strongly recommend it for "winter sun" breaks within easy reach of the UK and the rest of Europe (3.5 hours from London Stansted direct to Essaouira airport, 25 minutes' drive from the villa) and it would also be great in Spring and Autumn. I certainly intend to return.
