Bethesda Overlook is part of Bethesda Lake Resort & Cabins, a mountain destination created by Michael and Jessica Myers near Mena, Arkansas in the Ouachita Mountains.
Bethesda Lake was constructed in 1925 and was originally intended to be the centerpiece of a resort development that included lakeside recreation and plans for a golf course. The Great Depression halted those plans before the resort could be completed.
In the early 1930s, the Watkins family purchased the property and operated what became known as Lake Bethesda Resort, building small cabins and opening the lake for seasonal swimming. The resort remained a local gathering place until closing in the late 1960s.
Over the following decades, the property fell into disrepair. The cabins were removed, maintenance declined, and the lake’s beauty became hidden beneath heavy overgrowth.
In 2019, Michael and Jessica purchased Bethesda Lake and the surrounding land with a vision to restore the property and bring new life to this historic setting. Working with skilled local craftsmen, they began transforming the land and building cabins designed to showcase the natural beauty of the Ouachita Mountains.
Today, Bethesda Lake Resort & Cabins spans more than 300 acres and features a growing collection of cabins, with additional mountaintop cabins planned for the future.
Bethesda Overlook welcomed its first guests in 2022 and was designed to provide a comfortable and memorable stay surrounded by lake and mountain views.
