Activities nearby: Vieregge, a tranquil little fishing village, lies directly on the Breetzer Bodden in the northwest of the island of Rügen. It is part of a chain of lagoons within the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. Here, thousands of cranes rest in autumn, creating a spectacular natural phenomenon. The Bodden lagoon is an ideal area for all kinds of water sports and is also very popular with anglers. Just a few kilometers from Vieregge lies the Schaabe, a twelve-kilometer-long spit of land with fine sand, considered one of Rügen's most beautiful beaches. Opposite Vieregge is the island of Hiddensee, which can be reached by ferry from Schaprode. The island's famous sights, such as the chalk cliffs, Granitz Hunting Lodge, and the white town of Putbus, can be reached by car in less than 45 minutes.
