The Kitchen House was completed around 1786 during the time the fourth generation Simons, Sara Lydia, and her husband, Jonathan Lucas, Jr. owned the Middleburg property. The interior has been restored over the last decade, while the existing structure of the original house remains.
The Kitchen House was renovated to offer one bedroom, one bathroom, and a living room with space for up to four guests. The house features an adjoining outdoor cooking area and fire pit, providing an excellent place to cook your own meals or congregate. While the Kitchen House does not offer an indoor kitchen by modern standards, it does contain a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker for guest convenience. - Must be 25 years of age or older to book this property - No events allowed without prior authorization - No pets allowed - No smoking or vaping - No fireworks - Please park in designated areas on the gravel - Only foot and bicycles are allowed on the trails - Firearms are prohibited

We absolutely LOVED our stay at Kitchen House! It was so peaceful and quiet, the wildlife was amazing, lying under the huge trees and watching the many, many species of birds was the highlight of the trip. It’s a reasonable distance from Summerville/Charleston, so we took trips to downtown and the beach throughout the stay. We even got to see an armadillo! The house itself is very clean and well kept, the fire pit was awesome to sit at in the evening. The grounds are wonderfully maintained! We walked down to the river multiple times on the well kept trail and I got to take all sorts of photos with my new camera lenses. Wonderful experience overall, and I hope to be back soon!!!
The Middleburg property is beautiful. The historic buildings are in great shape, and the Kitchen House has been beautifully renovated for a guest space. It was very comfortable for three adults. Bear in mind there is no true wall between the bedroom and living room- but no problem as long as you’re happy to be together! It was serene and charming. About an hour to Charleston proper.
Property was even better than we had hoped. Serene, meditative and steeped in history. We booked a weekend at one of the smaller units (not the big house). It was 15 min. to our trailhead destination. We were the only folks on site. I spent hours on the porches of the big house and sitting under the magnificent Live Oaks. My Merlin bird ID app must have found more than 30 different species. Recommend for nature lovers and quiet escapes. Exceeded expectations.
The vacation from the Twilight Zone HELL.Never got in so I don't know how clean it was.Never got host help because I wasn't given any info for contact in case of a problem (and problem it was). Only received automated contact info. No One to reach because no one was there and everyone forgot to tell me there was no cell service close to the property. This was AWFUL

Liked: Communication
Disliked: Check-in
Pros: host communicated very efficiently under the circumstances of being Fourth of July weekend so we appreciate that, was able to solve our problems very swiftly and we ended up staying in the house directly across from us so not in the house we originally booked, luckily no one was staying there otherwise this would have ended very badlyCons: no service when you arrive, had to drive back up the street a ways to get service to find the email which I never received on check in instructions(code to get in gate, WiFi password VERY important when your staying out in the woods),home had no ac on when arrived(it’s July in SC so very brutal),ac was turned on but never fully worked, the home had not been cleaned in quite some time so yes they’re were dead bugs and signs of a critter living there. The people who managed the property clearly did not prepare for someone to be staying there. Once we let the host know of these issues she immediately had us relocate to the home just a few steps away which was clean with working ac so we had no problems with where we ended up staying it was just unfortunately not where we originally booked. Only issue of second home was the door handle needs to be replaced, had to lock ourselves in the house with spare key so not idealI would suggest anyone wanting to book this property are1:feel safe in rural location2:feel safe staying what seemed to be at one time a plantation(which I overlooked when booking) but would like to make others aware
