We spent most of our time in the pool & hot tub. The kitchen had everything we needed. This is our third stay at the retreat. The darn drought caused the pond to be dry but I'm sure it will come back when Texas gets some rain.

Summer Getaway

The stay was absolutely wonderful. The pool was an oasis in the Texas mid-July heat. The rest of the amenities were a plus, and there are many. If it's watching TV at the outside bar or viewing a great move during the night while you cool off floating in the pool, this place has everything. The host is spectacular.

Property was very nice and as described. Amenities were abundant and the pool w/waterfall was a hit! Outdoor movie screen was well enjoyed. Golf cart provided entertainment for teenager and was a great perk to have. Hot tub was loved by all! Indoors was supercozy and beds are soooo comfortable! Bathtub was well loved to wind down fron the day. Hosts were very helpful and friendly explaining how to utilize/function the amenities. We are talking about making this a yearly visit, we all loved it. Thank you!

The property was just as beautiful in person as the online pictures that drew me in to book it originally. The house was FULLY stocked with plenty of everything—towels, beach towels, pool floats, games, technology, entertainment, kitchen, etc. I think there was truly one of every single kitchen appliance you could think of. It's evident that the owners have put a lot of thought and care into providing the best experience possible for all potential renters. We will recommend this property to all of our friends and are talking about when we will be able to return! We floated the San Marcos River one day using Don's Fish Camp for float rentals and transportation, which was about a 25-minute drive from the property. It was a great much needed relaxing vacation for our family.

A great New Year’s!

My family and I stayed here and it was wonderful. The pictures are accurate and I encourage anyone who is looking for a restful place to stay away from the city, to consider this place. Fishing was fun in the tank (perch and catfish) watching movies on the big screen by the pool was fantastic, and the use of the golf cart was a bonus. The hosts are nice and easy to deal with. Beds were super comfortable too. Plenty of space to relax and hang out.

Amazing spot! 15 minutes from the track. Close to the airport. Having a pool to cool off in between races was Amazing. Nice to have clean towels and shampoo provided. Definitely coming back next year

Wonderful retreat!

We can’t say enough good about our stay at Mesquite Retreat…the house is very clean…they have it stocked with everything you might need. The pool was awesome…we probably chose the home for this feature, but the entire property exceeded our expectations! We also enjoyed the pond and the serenity of the property. Even though we have rented many homes, this is only the 2nd time we would say, “we want to go back!”

The property description is just as it appears in real life. The house is definitely well cared for and has high tech functionality mixed in with its wonderful decor. Everything you need is within a 20min drive and there is plenty of kitchen to load up for your stay. The heated pool was awesome at night and the bedroom/bathroom situation was perfect for 4 families.. Definitely worth it.

First off, amazing property! We stay at multiple Vrbo houses each year and I can definitely say this was on the top of everyone’s list to return back. The house and all is very well equipped and CLEAN! Cleanliness is top of our priority list if that helps anyone. The pool was 100% crystal clear, I was shocked to be honest how clear it was. Everything was well stocked and planned out. It looks like someone took their time in making sure every angle was covered for guest enjoyment. All the speaker systems were very convenient. The huge stack of pool towels and toy bin at the back door made it so much easier with the kids! Projector is a bit old but got the job done. There was a big wasp nest under the pavilion but that can be expected in Texas. Herschel gave us a run through of all the technology in the house/patio/pool when we arrived. Very hospitable and thorough. Appreciate the attention to detail! Thanks again and see you next time!

It is a retreat

We were staying with our kids and grandkids for a long weekend. (This is our third or forty time!). The pool is so inviting and we love watching a movie (Sandlot of course) together at night. Then there’s fishing in the pond, playing games, and riding in the golf cart. There was a glitch in the fridge but we texted and had a workaround in 30 minutes!

Modern beauty in a rustic setting

Recently came to Texas to visit a few of the bigger cities. Against the majority say of my group, I booked this home in the country instead of being in a big city. Needless to say, they all absolulety loved it! While the location is a little rustic, the home is very beautiful and modern. We had a group of 9 with 2 small dogs and we had plenty of room! We were able to relax and enjoy our vacation without being told to quiet down, even on our pool nights that went past midnight! We had a few rainy days but there was lots of things to do at the house to occupy us ;) Loved this home and the owners are amazing!

Hosted by Hershel and Becky Sandifer

Hershel, a commercial construction project manager, has a passion for working his land and restoring classic cars, jukeboxes, and vintage Coke machines. He also loves cooking up catfish and crawfish for large gatherings. Becky, a semi-retired executive leadership coach, finds joy in cruising the open seas and spending quality time with her four grandchildren. Together, they share a love for cheering on the University of Texas football team.

Why they chose this property

We wanted a property close to Austin with plenty of space for privacy, so we purchased 10 acres in Bastrop County close to COTA and the airport. Hershel built this beautiful home and continues to find new ways to enhance it. He never misses an opportunity to put his tractor and backhoe to good use!

This property is truly special, offering plenty of space for everyone to gather together or break off into smaller groups for different activities. The large outdoor movie screen and projector are perfect for a night swim or relaxing in the pool while enjoying a movie. You can unwind in the hot tub, grill steaks in the outdoor kitchen and bar area while watching your favorite sports, or simply enjoy some downtime.

Kids can play foosball or enjoy outdoor games, and if it rains, there's a spacious covered area to stay dry. On chilly nights, the outdoor fireplace adds warmth and ambiance, while the fire pit provides the perfect spot for group conversations under the stars. Inside the house, the game room offers a pool table, darts, and a large TV for family movie nights, with plenty of films to choose from. Board games are also available for fun family bonding.

Down by the pond, you’ll find a covered patio with an outdoor fire pit—perfect for telling ghost stories. The Texas drought has finally caused our pond to dry up so no fishing until rain comes our way and we will restock. You can also explore the 10 acres on the golf cart for a unique adventure.

The well-stocked kitchen includes all the small appliances needed to prepare a gourmet meal, and with five comfortable bedrooms and three bathrooms, there's plenty of space to relax and recharge.
