Old farm mill with a water wheel rebuilt as a vacation home

The Oligmühle in Kleinich / Hunsrück is much older than previously thought. More recent research has shown that it is already several hundred years old. When, in 1831, at the instigation of the government of the Prussian Rhine Province—to which the Mosel-Hunsrück region then belonged in the aftermath of the Napoleonic era— the initial land register for the localities of Irmenach-Beuren and Kleinich-Fronhofen was created, the Oligmühle already existed. The owners at that time were Charles Boor and his partners.
Its distinctive feature is the waterwheels that overcome the head of the water due to the often low water level in small streams. In these waterwheels, the small amount of water flows from the top down to the waterwheel. The wheel is set in motion by the weight of the water, and thus harnesses its energy. The mill’s peak season was in the fall and winter, when sufficient water was available from the surrounding streams. In 1981, the expansion of the high-end holiday homes was completed.
