The Space

The rental occupies the entire private upper level of the home. It is reached from the street by a level walkway followed by two small entry steps. Once inside, all rooms are on one level.

Several rooms have views of San Francisco and the Bay. The front bedroom overlooks a garden with a fountain, often visited by birds.

From the deck, kitchen, dining room, and living room, the panorama may include Mount Tamalpais, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, the Port of Oakland, the Oakland and San Francisco skylines, Alameda, Bay estuaries, and the western hills beyond.

The living room includes a comfortable sofa and chaise, reading chairs, attractive furnishings, and a Regency gas fireplace for cool evenings.

There is a flat-screen television in the living room and one in each bedroom, with DirecTV Premium programming.

Bedrooms and Comfort

Each bedroom has a king-size Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme bed, quality bedding, and four pillows.

The larger bedroom also connects to a reading alcove with direct access to a private section of the deck furnished with two cushioned chairs.

Throughout the home, furnishings were selected for comfort, quality, and beauty.

Deck and Outdoor Setting

The large deck extends across the back of the home and includes comfortable seating, an outdoor dining area, and a propane grill.

One end of the deck is accessed from the larger bedroom through its reading alcove. The other end is accessed from the kitchen and includes a tall bistro-style table with cushioned chairs for meals or morning coffee.

The deck overlooks mature trees and seasonal plantings and is frequently visited by birds, squirrels, and hummingbirds.

About the host

I grew up in western NC. UCLA brought me to California, and I've lived in Oakland since 1987. I love Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area. My husband and I travel frequently and whenever possible we rent a vacation home rather than stay in a hotel. We value comfort and convenience and keep in mind our own expectations and preferences when furnishing and managing our rental. After a day of touring and sight seeing, we enjoy sitting on a beautiful deck enjoying each other and a glass of wine. We want to provide you with the best possible lodging experience to complement your enjoyment of this beautiful geography. We are huge fans of the Bay Area and enjoy its offerings of bountiful nature and urban delights as though we are constant tourists here. My husband was a frequent Bay Area visitor (from New England) when I met him through mutual friends 22 years ago. After I spent two cold north eastern winters with him, he came to his senses and moved to the temperate climate of the Bay Area. We married in 2005, and he has no regrets about relocating!

Why they chose this property

**Proximity to Bay Area/Napa tourist destinations.
**The decks with the "Romeo and Juliet" balconies provide a delightful place to "hang out", bird watch, enjoy the scenery . . .
**Wonderful home for families visiting nearby relatives. Great for Grandparents!
**Attentive host, Dee, who genuinely cares that you are cozy and comfortable. She uses every good and bad experience she's had in short term rentals to make this home 5 stars.
**Views! Our guests enjoy views of iconic features of the Bay Area: the Golden Gate Bridge, the San Francisco skyline, Mt. Tamalpais and more. During the night, it sparkles like a jewel from the living room, dining room, kitchen, and the entire back deck.
**You are 10 minutes from the Dr. Aurelia Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park. The park contains the largest remaining natural stand of coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) found in the East Bay. The park is part of a historical belt of coast redwood extending south to Leona Canyon Regional Open Space Preserve and east to Moraga. Here there are many hiking trails. (Search for "best trails" in this park to get an idea.)
**Minutes from Chabot Space Center and the Oakland Zoo
**Easy access to the ferry terminal and free parking for trips to San Francisco
**An hour (sometimes only 38 minutes during certain times) to Half Moon Bay, a beautiful beach, and outdoor seating (or indoor) at Sam's Chowder House
**About 13 minutes from the City of Alameda with its small-town vibe and its many restaurants, bars, and shopping
