About this property
A Lot Like Paradise. Quiet. Peaceful. Cozy. Spacious.
Rustic cottage on on Little River, a lovely trout stream that swishes around rocks. Great place for kids to play! Lake across the street. Canoe. Woods all around. Very quiet except for hush of river. Nice deck extends almost to the river. Charcoal grill. In all ways cozy and pleasant. Nice for couples, writers, artists, travelers, families, and pets—a place for quiet, peaceful people.
About the lake: There's no beach. Access is just a narrow path down to the water.
The space
You have the house to yourself except, on a basement level, there is an art studio that might have one person (the property owner) in it, quietly painting a picture. But that space is completely separate from the guest space, with its own separate entrance. You won't need to go there, and no one will need to go into the guest area. There is a lockable door between the two areas.
The living space is on two floors. Downstairs: living room, dining room, kitchen, all essentially one space. Upstairs, a bedroom with a queen-size bed, a loft area with two single beds, and a bathroom.
There are air conditioners in the bedroom and living room. They are removed in October and reinstalled in May.
The space is NOT "childproof."
Guest access
Guests can drive right up to the door, but there are about 10 stairs up to the door. Exception: If there's a lot of snow, a car can't get to the cottage until our snow plow guy gets here, so it will be a 200 ft. walk.
Other things to note
No arrivals on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day.
If you're staying a long time and would like a cleaning service once in a while, we can have someone come in for $85. Rental price includes clean sheets once a week. In the winter, you can feed a wood stove, if you want, but a gas heater is the main source of heat. A/C in bedroom and living room but only May through Sept. We welcome pets and children. If you'd like to make a small campfire to cook marshmallows or weenies, you can do that.
• Wifi speed is around 57 mbps.
• You will be glad if you arrive with your food rather than arrive and then have to go out to buy food. We'll give you directions to the nearest supermarket, but it's 15 minutes away. (Stop & Shop in Norwichtown, just off Interstate 395.)
• It's easy to miss our driveway, and it can be hard to see the number 18 painted on a rock at the end of the driveway. The thing to look for is the little bridge. If the lake is on your right, the driveway is on your left immediately after the bridge. If the lake is on your left, the driveway is on your right, just before the bridge. It's a long driveway going down hill. There is a large birdhouse / lighthouse (with a little light on top) on a tall pole near the road in front of the house.
• If you want to grill, we have a charcoal grill. Don't forget to bring charcoal.
• We provide towels and soap. Towels are for people, not dogs.
• The kitchen has most of the basics you'll need, such as salt, pepper, sugar, coffee machine filters, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, napkins, dish soap, cleaning supplies, etc. Stove, oven, fridge, and microwave. If you want to know about something specific, just ask.
• We provide sheets, towels, soap, toilet paper. You get clean sheets and towels once per week, but after a week, you have to make your own bed.
• Three things we don't have: a television, a dishwasher, a washing machine. There is a laundromat about three miles away.
• In the event of a snowstorm, we will try to get plowed out right away, but we can't promise it. Guests are responsible for cleaning snow and ice from deck and stairs.
You may need this number in case you can't find the house. You can text to this number.
