This place is central to King Salmon. It is only 3 miles from the airport, with a private entry, full kitchen, bathroom, and space for 2 people, making it easy to plan your visit whether it involves fishing, floating, flying, hunting, bear viewing, or adventuring Katmai National Park. Shared laundry on the property upon request. Cheapest rental cars in town are ours, found on Turo.com (Ford 2020 F150 white, 2018 Black highlander SUV)
This has 1 bedroom (with 2 twin beds), 1 bathroom, and full kitchen and small, cozy living area. Shared parking area with a 3 car carport. This is the an apartment below our main house and we have 5 kids, so it is not peacefully quiet all the time. Kids may be running around outside or playing in the yard. We put them to bed at 8 and try to keep them quiet when guests are here. We can host more than 2 people if you use the extra queen air mattress in the living room.
You can access our shared laundry room downstairs if you're staying long term, otherwise you have all the amenities you need in the main house.

The owner was great to work with and the room was exactly as advertised. It worked great for our stay! We also rented her car on Turo which made getting to and from the airport easy. Thanks again for all your help!
The hostess is very nice. The only problem the secure code was incorrect. But she was available to help us. The driving direction is very good. There is no address to the house.
Great little place to stay. Set up really well and the hosts are amazing. Easy process and they are really helpful. Place was nice and clean and had everything we needed.
Your hosts, Tana and Adam, are amazing as is this property if you are lucky enough to find yourself in King Salmon AK. Quiet and secluded and with all modern conveniences, another great stay. Thank you.
Tana's place was perfect for my needs. It was spacious, clean and welcoming. The bed was super comfortable and the extras like snacks, coffee etc was a really nice touch. The host was responsive and helpful during my stay. It was very easy to get a taxi to and from the airport. I will definitely book again.
Very clean property, check in and out was easy however the listing stated a grill and a hot tub, the grill was not located by the unit and after getting a return message the next morning we were alerted that the grill was on the upper deck next to the private property sign on the stairs. Spent a lot of money at grocery store to grill out and was not able to.
10/10 We were in town for a family friends funeral. We thought we'd minimize the hassle by renting a place instead of staying with them. When we booked the stay, we were honestly only expecting a couple bed cots, but the place had a full kitchen, living room area, bathroom with immediate hot water and a very large/comfortable bed. The snacks were a very nice touch. I'd recommend anybody to stay there, especially considering how kind the host was when we had to make sure we found the correct place. 10/10

When we arrived at The Grotto check-in was easy. Tana had contacted me days ahead of our arrival with all the check-in information as well as local information. The apartment was just what we needed for our stay in King Salmon/Katmai National Park. The apartment was clean, there was plenty of sleeping space, and we made us of the kitchen to cook some meals. Everything was easy to find in the apartment such as pots and pans, utensils, coffee pot, etc. Tana even has an iPhone that can be used during the stay because cell phone reception with anything but the local Alaskan carrier doesn’t work. I would stay in The Grotto again if I were ever to return to King Salmon. Great little apartment!

Overall the physical property was exactly as specified. The rooms were clean as were the linens and towels. What reduced my review were the following: 1) There was a great deal of noise above us, hammering, child noises and what sounded like moving furniture. 2) We were asked to leave the property "cleaner than we found it." That wasn't hard when it came to the dishes; one glass was cracked, all others were dirty as were the plates and the coffee pot. We ended up washing everything except any of the plates which we did not use. 3) There was no drain stopper to properly fill the sink and wash the dishes. We plugged the drain with paper towels to wash the dishes. 4) The couch was terribly uncomfortable. I cannot imagine if we had needed to unfold the hide-a-bed. 5) The sign for Bristol Bay was covered by bushes and only after driving by 3 times did we find it. A "Grotto" sign might have helped us.
Chose this apartment as an alternative to more commercial lodging nearby on my way to Katmai for a backpacking adventure. The listing included a hot tub which was a key factor in choosing the location, but upon arrival and fruitless searching for the hottub, was told there is not one and there was a listing error. We were invited to use the family sauna in the main house area but that was not a great option for us. The apartment is also located under the main home where a large family lives, so the room was not quiet until all kids went to bed. I believe this was alluded to in the listing, but it cannot be overstated that this is not a quiet room.
Finally, the ceiling fan in the bedroom did not work and it was quite hot in the room with no window and no air movement. Would likely choose another option for a future trip.
I meant to post this much sooner but internet connectivity is very limited in the region And I didn’t have an opportunity at the time, and am just now recalling I hadn’t yet posted.

About the host
Hosted by Tana Grenda
We were born and raised in Northern Idaho and now we live in King Salmon Alaska. When we moved to Alaska, we started foster care to build our family, and began building our dream life in the outdoors of hunting, fishing, flying, and trapping. We were blessed to raise 5 siblings through foster care that we adopted, and are still foster parents today for more children in need. Our usual number of children we have running around is 6. My husband jokes that he never knows when I will bring home another child! We love this area and are happy to host you at our property for your Bristol Bay stay or adventure.
