About this property
Lodge with Breathtaking View of Georgian Bay and Lacloche Mnts
de la Morandiere Rock, as the property is known, has been in the same family since it was built in the early 1960s. Perched atop a giant granite boulder, the lodge has beautiful and uninterrupted views of the La Cloche Mountains and Georgian Bay. Located just outside the famous boating town of Killarney, the property offers a uniquely beautiful escape. Its proximity to Killarney allows for access to restaurants and other services. Visitors will stay in the main house on the 60 acre property, which also has three other small cabins owned by the same family. Killarney Provincial Park, which is only 5 km away, allows guests to be completely immersed in nature with trails, lakes, camping grounds, and guided trips. de la Morandiere's natural beauty is enhanced by its quiet location on an inlet of Georgian Bay. The long dock that extends from the property is the perfect place to view a sunset or to sit and observe the wildlife surrounding the house. The lodge offers a relaxing base camp for day trips in the surrounding area. Outside of the main entrance is a gazebo with a gas grill for outdoor dinners, as well as an original totem pole, commissioned when the house was built. A small screened-in porch also allows for bug-free star gazing at night. The property sits along 2,000 ft. of shoreline, and canoes are available at the small beach just below the lodge. The La Cloche Mountains also provide endless opportunities for hiking and exploring. Whether you're interested in day hiking or overnight backpacking, there are trails for everyone. The summer of 2011 will be the first summer that the lodge is open to renters. In the past it has remained private, only used by the family. We hope that you come to love and appreciate this spectacular place as much as we have over the past 50 years. We are closed from Canadian Thanksgiving till Spring Dogs are most welcome but we ask that you vacuum all furniture and sweep. It takes a lot of extra time and effort (as you know if you own dogs) and we appreciate your kindness. Note, our season is from mid June to Thanksgiving. The first two weeks of June and from late sept-closing 3 day slots are available, otherwise its from Saturday to Saturday. The lake in front of the house freezes in October and thaws in late May. It is not insulated so please don’t ask to rent outside those parameters. Thanks Shebanoning Lodge

magnificent viewvery space and everything we need is provided plus the house keepers are very helpful we enjoyed the cottage thoroughly, surely somewhere we wish to come again
Such a beautiful property and an amazing lodge very rustic with history around you. This is a great place for a family or friends to stay any time of year. It’s always sunny in Killarney.
Our group, senior women, loved the property and the house. We are all nature lovers so the awesome views on the lake were so inspiring. Also some have mobility issues so they were able to enjoy walking around the property while some of us hiked in Killarney park. Highly recommend this place. Would love to come back!
Unique space! lots of room. great location, right on the water super scenic. loved having the hot tub and fireplace and large space to cook. Very cozy cabin initially pretty cold as we are visiting mid October but heated up pretty well. Some instructions a little unclear, but we managed and Karen and Bob were great help.
What an awesome place (as long as you are ok with the company of stuffed animals). Situated on the lake facing the La Cloche mountain range, this spacious family lodge is well equipped and the perfect combination of a cottage to ‘stay’ (and explore the lake with the canoe or kayak) and lots of opportunity to ‘do’ things in and around Killarney PP if you feel like it. Thank you for making your old family retreat available to us!
Our third time staying at this spectacular location. We really love this cottage - comfortable, endearingly vintage and a setting that is second to none. Morning coffee at sunrise sitting on the pink granite with the most incredible water view - it's always difficult to leave. Highly recommend. We did have to bring our own toilet paper, paper towels and bed linens - otherwise everything else we needed. A stone's throw from excellent dining at the resorts in Killarney.
We'll hope to be back next summer. Thank you, Jonathan.

Fall visit to Killarney
Absolutely the most beautiful location. Truly a million dollar view. We had an amazing display of northern lights and the stars were seemingly within reach. The lodge was clean and comfortable but somewhat musty and the kitchen is very dated with no working oven, although the stove top works. The problem was the stuffed trophy animals everywhere. The owners parents were big game hunters and fisherman. The stuffed heads and torsos cover the walls, tables etc. I quickly got used to them and managed to ignore them, but others in my party were quite disturbed by them. They are shown in the pictures of the lodge but the effect in person is more overwhelming. I would return for the view and location but I was the only one out of a group of four who would do so. If the owner sent all the trophies/animal leg lamps etc off to a museum and painted I don't think there is anyone who wouldn't love to stay there. The hiking in the area is fantastic, restaurants are basic but okay.
We came up for a quiet weekend getaway with another couple and we’re not disappointed. This cottage is the perfect place to relax and recharge with an amazing view of the water. Lots of charm in this cottage, we will definitely be back!
I had been staying 5 times at this cottage in the past. Never get tired of it especially in Fall. My guests enjoy it so much. Very close to town, tons of hiking trails and The owner, Jonathan is so easy to communicate. Thanks him for sharing this unique place with us.
Pros: Place is very spacious (more what we needed for 5 people) and beautiful especially if you a fun of taxidermized animals (not my cup of tea). Art, looks like made by the owner of the cottage, on the walls around the cottage was impressive! Jacuzzi is a great feature. Kitchen has everything you need for cooking. Playing cards in front of fireplace was great. View from the bedrooms was spectacular. The canoe was in good shape and we explored the lake a bit.
Cons: Not working heater in middle bedroom. Also, I wish that the property description included the information that customer have to bring their own pillows, blankets and towels, and customer requires to clean the cottage before leaving. Cleaning was not too much problem, but bringing the pillows, blankets and towels for 5 people in one car was an issue.
There was some problem with cleanliness of the place at arrival. The caretaker, offered to come and clean (thanks Karen for an offer), but we rejected and cleaned it by ourselves (did not want do deal with the stranger while we were there). Later the owner compensated us for inconvenience. Thanks Jonathan!
Overall we loved our stay and enjoyed all 6 day we spent their with my family. We would recommend this place to our friends and definitely would book it again!!
This is one of the most stunning properties in the region, and we’ve been coming back for years as long as you like taxidermy, and cozy tradition al cottage vintage vibes, this cabin has everything you need for an amazing stay pretty much any time of year
Thank you Jonathan for opening up your cottage to us. Was such a wonderful vacation with family, enjoying some of the most spectacular views. It truly feels like your walking into a group of seven painting.
Built atop an impressive expanse of pink granite sits an incredibly lovely cottage with spacious living areas and wonderful views of the water.
The interior decor speaks to another era but adds to the timeless feel. It won't appeal to everyone but is a rather remarkable collection.
Situated so close to Killarney Provincial Park provides loads of opportunities for outdoor adventure and the town itself is handy for a meal or two out.
Our dogs and family enjoyed our time there immensely. Thank you Jonathan for renting to us. And a special shout out to young Rufus who was staying next door for welcoming Mylo and Zarley with such enthusiasm.

Killarney Vacation
We have stayed at this property several years ago and had an equally pleasant time this past week. There is a new dock with swim ladder with outstanding views of the bay. We brought our kayaks and this was the perfect spot to explore the area. The property lists a canoe and kayak and the latter has a broken rudder post and suitable for a very small person only so bring your own if this is something you want to do. There are great hikes nearby including a beautiful one to the top of covered portage cove. The fishing is amazing so count on a fish fry night during your stay. We had a small boat to do this but you can also fish off the dock. Bring potable water for drinking purposes. The indoor sauna and hot tub are wonderful amenities to have. There is Wifi in town but not at the rental. TV coverage is limited to one channel. We did not miss it as too busy exploring. If you are into bird watching, there are many bald eagles, eaglets, sandhill cranes, and interesting shore birds. There are bears and other little critters as well so it is important to not leave any food out overnight. As noted in previous posts the pictures do not do this property justice. It really is a special place. One last thing, when coming into the property from Killarney road look for the Speigel sign on the right hand side about two km outside of town and keep to the left at the first fork where the gate is.
We really had a good time here. A few things we needed when we arrived were taken care of very quickly. The property is beautiful and very close to town and the Provincial Park. Overall it had what we needed.
The only reason it is not a 5 for us is the limited things for water access for a family of four. No paddles for the canoe was disappointing and only having a one person kayak limited our on water time.
Highly recommend. We've rented many a cottage over the years but this one is truly unique; with all the trophies and period furniture it's like stepping back in time. But while it has the charm, it's also got the stuff that counts - the mattresses are all new, there's a hot tub and sauna, modern stove, fridge decent propane bbq and washer/dryer. Views are spectacular, and location next door to the provincial park and 10 mins from town is great for hiking and supply top-ups. Note that you absolutely want to show up with most of your own food, the general store is very small and the nearest real supermarket is a long way away. We also saw several bears on the property. While they kept their distance and we were told that there had never been an attack it did make us keep an extra eye on the kids and dogs. No wifi but we successfully streamed netflix for a couple of movie nights via phone hotspot and laptop; there are no modern tv's so don't expect to plug anything in to a screen unless you bring one. Kitchen well supplied; you might want to bring a frying pan. Owner and caretakers super friendly and responsive.
It is a remote location so bring all you will need. Great property and very comfortable for 3 couples. We hiked, we paddled and our friends who were first timers to Killarney loved it. We are returning guests to this location and I almost hate to say to to many good things as it will just make it harder for us to find an opening for our next trip. We did have a chilly week in early Sept. Welcome to the top of Georgian Bay! Thanks Jonathon.
The only reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars for 'accuracy of listing' is that the cottage and surrounding area are better in person. Ideal location for our family and friends. Killarney is spectacularly beautiful. The rock on the water side of the cottage which slopes sharply to the water might be an issue for families' with very young children. Some folks might be surprised or put off by the taxidermy. We were not. The entire experience was above our expectations and we hope to return.
Absolutely loved the place!! It was the perfect gateway for the week. Very Cozy and organized with plenty of space for the 6 of us. Very private and relaxing with everything you need just up the road! A beautiful quiet location with access to waterfront that has amazing sunsets and stunning views of the stars at night.

All that was promised
The cottage is in a superb location and is very roomy and nicely outfitted. Three bedrooms sufficed for we two couples and managed fine with the one shower. The kitchen worked well. Lovely property and lots of time spent on the dock watching the sunset.
Bob and Karen the local property managers were delightful and helpful, The owner was less so and IMHO should have been more aware and involved - there are slight inaccuracies in the listing likely caused by sloppiness in setting up the listing.
But despite these petty ennoyances we loved the place.
