The view was amazing! You can see, hear and feel the ocean from the deck! There is no dune to obstruct your view. The house was nicely decorated and very well stocked. The owners were very attentive and so easy to deal with. If you are a shell hunter or fisherman you will not be disappointed! We will return next year.
Property was lovely! The stay was exquisite. A small issue with plumbing, but the owners tried to repair it while we were there, but there was another functioning restroom and it worked fine for our stay. The only concern was the difficulty in accessing the house. We managed ok, but was quite difficult to access in the sand with heavy coolers and luggage. A group that may have had mobility issues would surely have had far more difficulty.
Matt and Christine are incredibly accommodating and even more communicative. The location is incredible. You are 45 minutes or less from everything (national parks, shopping, tourist traps, etc.).
The deck is on the beach, and when the tide comes in, it is literally above the Atlantic at times. Miles of beach await you in any direction. Locally, head south toward the Rodanthe Pier (arcade, shop, etc) or west up the street to the Rodanthe Surf Shop.
The house itself is very cozy, well furnished and recently updated. The pictures listed are 100% accurate. This was our first trip to the outer banks and we could not be happier with our stay.

We are thrilled you enjoyed the Outer Banks! Thank you for being wonderful guests and we would love to have you stay with us again!
The stay was perfect…..almost. Check-in was difficult because the code that we were supposed to use didn’t work. Not the owners fault at all! Something was wrong with the Internet on the whole island so that was an issue. Luckily, a guy that owned surf shop across the street, let me use his landline. So if you go and stay at the house take your time to go across the street and say hey to the owner of Rodanthe Surf Shop. Besides the check in process the week was the time of my life!

Be aware of high tide and where you park your car!
The house is very clean and the hosts responded quickly to emails. We did have maintenance issues during our time there. The master toilet was inoperable, the dishwasher was tripping off, and the AC quit and had to be replaced so we had 3 nights of it being rather warm.
The huge issue is the parking situation and the beach erosion that can make for a disaster because of the parking location. There has been so much beach erosion at Rodanthe that houses have literally fallen into the ocean. This house no longer has a driveway or an adequate location for parking. At high tide, the waves literally crash up and under the house.
You will be parking at the end of a street, and the only thing between you and a high tide is a man-made dune. While we were there, a storm front blew in one day and there were thunderstorms most of the night. When we woke up the next morning, the high tide was washing up and over the dune at the end of the street. The sand from the dune washed down and swamped our vehicle. The vehicle was trapped and would not move. In addition, the street was filling with water.
We had to have a towing service come and pull our vehicle out of the sand, and then dash to a car wash 30 miles away to remove the sand and saltwater. All told, the cost was about $400. Whatever you do, DO NOT trust that the man-made dune will protect your vehicle from the high tide. Unfortunately, there are very few viable options for alternative parking. Just be aware.

Hi Jan, thank you for the review. We are disappointed that our property didn’t meet your expectations. We are proud to be a Premier Host here on VRBO and a Super Host on Airbnb. We do this by regularly exceeding our guests expectations, evidently we did not meet that mark with you and your guests.
As you noted in your review, we had an issue with the master bath commode. We have had multiple handymen attempt to fix the problem, and we ended up having to bring in a plumbing specialist off island to correct the issue. We found out that a former guest, accidentally dropped two hot wheels cars into a commode and blocked the drain pipe. We apologize for this issue. The dishwasher issue has also been rectified, this was also preventable, and we will strive to do better.
When we learned our HVAC was not working, thank you for letting us know, we immediately called our local vendor and he diagnosed the issue within a couple of hours. I would like to thank the owner of Village Air in Salvo, NC for having a brand new HVAC unit installed in less than 72 hours. This is no small feat anywhere, but especially on Hatteras Island. Thank you very much!
We believe our home is a dream come true. We are oceanfront, and the vast majority of the time, in our opinion, it is the best place on Planet Earth! However, we have no control over mother nature, storms, wind, or the results that they bring. Surfside Drive is a state owned road and the dune that is man-made is created by the state and we have absolutely no control over it. We are very sorry For the circumstances on your checkout morning, but we can only control what happens in and on our property. In many beachfront and oceanfront homes parking comes at a premium. As far as Beach erosion goes in Rodanthe, in the winter and the spring, there is less beach. In the summer and in the autumn, there is a lot more beach. In the summer and autumn tradewinds come from the southwest and deposit sand on the beach. That is the beauty and curse of living on and vacationing on a sandbar.
Thanks again for allowing us to host you, we hope your next trip to the Outer Banks is filled with a lot more fun!
About the host

We love traveling!! We are originally from the Northeast US and enjoy all different types of travel..... The Outer Banks speak to us because the beaches are amazing, the people are nice, and even in Peak Season Hatteras Island doesn't seem crowded.......
Why they chose this property
We decided to move our home to Dean Ave. because of the hurricanes in September of 2025. We lost both sets of steps, our entire septic field and tank, and the home next to us fell, destroying three of our pilings. It was a matter of time before mother nature came calling for us...... Dean Ave. is a nice small neighborhood with a paved road that ends with direct beach access. No side streets, no traffic to speak of, just direct access to the reason many of us come to the Outer Banks; the Sun, the Wind, and the Waves!!
What makes this property unique
Ebb Tide is a Rodanthe Cultural Icon...... Ebb Tide has taken everything Mother Nature gave and it stood rock solid on the Beach for decades..... Now, she gets a chance to relax and enjoy the renovations we have made...... Fresh Paint, New Windows, New Floors, New Appliances, and new for 2026; New Deck, Shaded outdoor living space and a sand volleyball court!!!
