This house might be fine for some people under some conditions. It was not right for us.
First and foremost – the primary heating source for the house is a fireplace in the living room. If you intend to camp out in the house next to the fire, this is probably fine. We were in and out hiking and biking so this was very impractical. Especially the first night – we arrived after dark and building a fire was not an option as we had not brought kindling with us and we were warned against gathering kindling on the property due to rattlesnakes.
Second, the beds were not made when we arrived. Again, if you are prepared and arrive during the daylight, this might not be a problem. We arrived after dark and were scrounging around looking for sheets, pillowcases and pillows in a dark house. Most of the sheets had been left in the dryer but had not been fully dried, so they smelled mildewy.
Third, the bikes provided were children’s bikes and not well cared for (bent rim etc). I specifically inquired about the bikes before renting. The response was a truthful, yes they are included, nothing about the size or condition. Had we known, we would have rented our own.
The location of this house is great – directly on the Pine Creek Trail and not far from good hiking. I think it would be nice during warmer months. The barn with its toys is also nice – would be great for kids.
This just was not the right place for two adults on a cold, fall weekend.
