About this property
The Grey Heron House
Nestled between the ridge and the river, The Grey Heron House takes full advantage of outstanding views of the Toccoa, and has the best of indoor and outdoor living.

Current rabies tag
Current flea medication such as Frontline, Advantage, etc
Housebroken and/or crated
Non-barking
Leashed at all times when outside
Will not lay on furniture/bed
Will not scratch/chew doors, floors, and furniture
Owner agrees to clean up pet waste
Owner agrees to pay a fee of $25 per night per pet
The Grey Heron House offers plenty of opportunity to relax. Sink into the soft leather furniture and watch TV or a movie on the four large HD TVs. For the quieter times, enjoy an evening by the fire of the wood burning fireplace. The terrace level features a pool table, wet bar, second refrigerator, and a seven person hot tub just outside on the deck.
Guests are welcome to use all areas including our 16 acres, quarter mile of river frontage, swimming pool and walking trails.
We live near by and can provide assistance as needed.
The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, and we expect all guests to respect reasonable noise standards. Special note: since this cabin is directly facing the river with large decks on two levels it is CRITICAL for all guests to understand and comply with noise standards. If neighbors across the river or at the cabin next door can hear you, your music, crying children, barking dogs, etc. it is too loud. We are very serious about enforcing this.
The roads are suitable for most any vehicle and is also motorcycle friendly.
The property is secluded but less than four miles from downtown Blue Ridge. The roads are easily navigated.
FIREWOOD. 17 acres of downed and dead wood is provided. Feel free to bring your axe and saw and use caution. We can also provide the split and stacked kind for a fee. Here are a few options:
1. Small stack of 20 pieces. You pick up: $15. We maintain a centrally located spot on the property with stacks of firewood for easy access. We generally operate on the honor system, but we do monitor the area with cameras. Just let us know how many stacks you'd like and we can direct you from there.
2. Medium stack of 30 pieces. We deliver and set up with Firestarter, marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate for 14 guests: $60. Let us know when you'd like the fire laid, and provide a minimum of 24 hours notice.
3. Large group fire options. We are wood fire connoisseurs who have had a wood stove fire nearly every night during Winter for the past 40 years. We can provide whatever you want, just ask.
ALL PETS MUST BE PRE-APPROVED.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR BRINGING MY DOG?
Current rabies tag.
Current flea medication such as Frontline, Advantage, etc.
Totally comfortable in a strange environment by itself, or crated when alone.
Non-barking, except briefly when excited (do NOT leave a barking dog alone).
If aggressive at all, dog must be leashed at all times.
Will not scratch/chew doors, floors, and furniture.
Owner agrees to THOROUGHLY clean the dog after river swimming prior to entering cabin.
Owner agrees to clean up all pet waste and be responsible for all damage.
Owner agrees to pay a fee of $25 per night per pet, plus tax (longer term discounts may apply).
NOISE LEVELS
Guest agrees to abide by reasonable noise standards, and agrees not to disturb other neighbors. 10PM is considered the beginning of overnight quiet hours. Guest further understands that due to the property's unique location along the Toccoa River valley, noise travels long distances (low noises can travel a half mile and loud conversations can travel two miles). There are a dozen owner occupied cabins within a two mile radius and even though they are not visible, the owners are sensitive to loud noises, especially at night.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF GUESTS
The person making the reservation personally guarantees the maximum number of guests associated with the booking, and agrees to an additional fee of $500 per each unauthorized guest.

About the host
Hosted by Greg Spencer

Oregonian Greg Spencer initially discovered the Blue Ridge area on a backpacking trip to the Cohutta Wilderness in the 1980’s. A short time later, enamored of the area, and the incredible recreational opportunities, Greg began to explore the potential for purchasing raw mountain land, and developing uniquely designed and hand-crafted cabins, taking full advantage of stunning views and a quarter mile of Toccoa River frontage.
Why they chose this property
Amazed by the beauty of the Toccoa River and the inspiring views of the surrounding mountains, Greg wasted no time in securing what is now known as the Toccoa House Properties. During the 1990’s Greg built a small cabin, The Riverside Cabin, on the Toccoa River, and envisioned a larger house that he later built on the ridge above: The Toccoa House, completed in 2000. Next came The Carriage House in 2002, and the in-ground, seasonally heated swimming pool in 2007. The Grey Heron House, was completed in late 2007.
What makes this property unique
Since our 17 acre property spans over 1000 feet of Toccoa River frontage, and consists of a peninsula created by a horseshoe bend in the river, we are surrounded by water on three sides. We are close to town, yet secluded and private. We have other units available, please contact us for more information.
