Conveniently located 3 miles from downtown Gettysburg is one of the most unique ways to stay and enjoy Gettysburg. The cabin itself dates back to 1798 "as far as we can trace back as of now." In 1927, famous Hollywood actor and Broadway star, Oscar Shaw purchased the cabin and constructed a massive addition to the outside of the original cabin. At this time he had the very first in ground pool in Gettysburg installed. In 1940, the son of a famous British naturalist purchased the lodge. His fathers lodge in Britain is named Rainworth Lodge and this is where our name comes from.

We are located 3 miles from downtown Gettysburg. With almost 3 acres of land, there's plenty of room for small group events to be hosted or enjoy the peace and tranquility a home away from all the bars has to offer. One of the largest homes at 3,100 sq.ft, if not the largest historic home and land in Gettysburg you can reserve exclusively to yourself. Enjoy the amazing benefits from having a fully stocked full sized kitchen and 3 separate dining areas. As an added bonus you get to explore the 1800s blacksmith shop found north of the lodge. The blacksmith shop was later converted into the carriage house and housed his driver. So much history has passed through the doors.

The home is historic and has repairs on the exterior that will be taking place when guests are not here and completed before guests arrive. None of the repairs needed pose any threat to guests, other than to their eyes. The detached garage is missing half its roof and is restricted to guests. The downstairs bathroom has a slope in the floor and will be leveled at a later date. If you have mobility issues, please be mindful of this.

• We do not and will not provide paper towels or any other single use wasteful products such as k-pods, sugar packets, condiments, etc... We utilize microfiber cloths instead. Use, wash out, re-use again is how you utilize microfiber cloths.
• This 2 story home has over 3,000 square feet of living area on 2 acres of land.
• Has 4 bedrooms total, 2 primary bedrooms, each with private full baths. The downstairs primary bedroom has it's own full bath to itself. The upstairs bathroom is a shared bathroom.
• Kitchen with full size refrigerator and stove/oven "digital display on oven is hard to read".
• 6 person dining room table and a dining area located on the kitchen side which can accomodate 8 more guests on request.
• A mudroom with exterior door leading to an open lawn area.
• The mudroom can also serve as a 5th bedroom and closes off from the rest of the lodge. It has a wall of windows though with no blinds or curtains.
• The great room is the entire 1800's log cabin with the second floor removed and has two 4 person couches as well as two single chairs as seen in photos.
• Closets are in every room, the 2 primary rooms have separate hers and his closets.
• There is a medium size washroom with an extra large washer and dryer for guest use and complementary detergent for ONE large load of laundry is provided.

CURRENT AMENITIES AND MOBILITY ACCESSABILITY FOR THIS HISTORIC LODGE:

• wifi
• New smart tv's with access to all streaming apps in the great room and all bed rooms except for one smaller bed room.
• Central air-conditioning and gas heat, all rooms have ceiling fans as well.

Close perfect location for Gettysburg Graduation

Historic old home. 4 queen beds made it possible for us to easily stay as a large family and easily access events around our daughter’s graduation. Easy ride to town and unique property.

We enjoyed the property. We found it very interesting and historic.Plenty of space for our group everyone had their own room. It’s a good starting point to see downtown Gettysburg and to go through the battlefield. We even had a dog in our group enjoyed playing in the yard and being able to wander the house. My family enjoys seeing new places and the adventures it brings, and this house did not disappoint.

Long-time friends visit the Lodge

Five friends who have traveled together for 50 years visited Gettysburg for the first time. This lodge/cottage was perfect for our gathering. Its history and appearance inside made it interesting, and it was also comfortable for our visit and sleeping overnight. We were surprised at the exterior and almost thought we had not found the correct place. But we had. It was well furnished for comfort, and the host was excellent in communicating with us and telling us about the history of the buildings.

Fun stay in Gettysburg!

This historic property was well located and provided plenty of space for us both inside and out. The bedroom and full bath on the first floor was really helpful for one member of our group who has mobility issues. The yard was a perfect place to walk our dogs. Daniel responded quickly to any questions or help that we needed. The kitchen is underequipped if you plan to cook meals there so I would bring cookware and a tea kettle when we return or partake of the many excellent restaurants in the area.

30th Birthday Trip

We had such a fun trip! Historic Rainworth Lodge was a cozy and convenient spot to rest after exploring the town and battlefields. Daniel was so accommodating and responded immediately to any questions we had. We enjoyed our time in the house and felt very comfortable. It was interesting to learn about the history of the place as well!

Tip in history

Although we did not experience any paranormal activity that stood out, our trip was very interesting. We loved the books and journals that were there to read and the property was outstanding. The host was prompt with all of our questions and very professional.

We booked this house for the history tour and ghost experience. When we arrived, we thought the home was abandoned. Easy to get inside, fairly clean (we thought the cobwebs were part of the ambience. Although, we were afraid to use the tub/ shower due to mold and standing water in the downstairs bathroom. Refrigerator is working, but old) The old chinking of logs and nostalgia throughout the house was evident. Very cool! This is a LODGE! MEN will love it, we women were a bit spooked. It's a work in progress.. The host wasn't able to give us the tour, bummer! So we made our own tour! Love the well by the porch!

We enjoyed our "cousins getaway weekend" at the Lodge. The history of the home is very interesting. Daniel was very responsive to any questions we had, and checked to see if we were snowed in, which we didn't mind being. Great location to town and attractions!

Spooky yet beautiful

This place is absolutely amazing to stay at! There's a lot of history with the house along with history of the town itself. For the price, you get a lot of privacy while still being close to town to experience all that Gettysburg has to offer! Daniel is a great host and makes getting to the property and being settled in a breeze. We look forward to returning next fall!

Dan was went above a beyond with his communication with me. The home was very clean. When you walked in it felt like a home, nothing like staying at a hotel. We did a couple of nights of paranormal investigating. A lot of names came up. Would definitely stay again!

Beautiful historic house

The outside is a little rough around the edges but the inside is gorgeous. Very reasonable price to be able stay in such a large, clean, well appointed and historic home. I plan on going back. Really close to Gettysburg, just outside town. Mattresses were great, slept like a baby.
