Welcome to the Corner Store! This is your own private apartment -- the entire second level of what used to be a corner grocery store. Built in 1902, the space is super unique, comfortable, and modern, yet retains its historic and funky character. Located near downtown, the U of M, and the Mississippi river. Enjoy the spacious, open layout, take advantage of the beautiful backyard and wood-burning sauna, and explore the neighborhood! Please note that this is the upper level of a duplex -- the apartment is private and entirely yours, but there is a separate apartment below you where other guests will be staying.

In the mornings, enjoy coffee and breakfast outside on the deck among the treetops overlooking the large, wildflower-filled private backyard, where, later in the day, you might decide to stroll down the spiral staircase to the yard and have a barbecue, or sit around the fire pit on a starry night with a drink, or have a rejuvenating sweat in the sauna.

The apartment will sleep five people, but is most comfortable with two or three.

I live nearby, and am always available by phone whenever you might need anything!

There is one bedroom, with plenty of room to hang up your clothes, and a comfortable queen-sized memory-foam mattress with lots of pillows and a down comforter. There are bedside tables with lamps and outlets for your phones. The living room sofa is comfortable and can accommodate one person, and I can also provide a queen-sized self-inflating air mattress if needed.

—————
BATHROOM
—————

There is one bathroom with tub/shower, sink, toilet, plenty of fresh white towels and washcloths, a hairdryer, and complimentary shampoo/body wash.

—————
KITCHEN
—————

The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a storm -- convection oven and gas range, fridge, pots/pans/utensils/dishes, dishwasher, electric kettle, toaster, plenty of counter space, good knives, and a concrete rolling island. Just off the kitchen is a cool birch tree-painted room with a breakfast counter, which leads out to the second-story deck.

—————
LIVING/DINING ROOM
—————

The living area is open and light-filled, with lots of plants and art. There`s a large sofa, a chaise lounge, and our custom made coffee/end tables. In the adjoining den, there is a desk, a sofa, and a large flat screen TV with all the streaming services and a great soundbar.

You have your own private deck, and also access to the yard below via spiral staircase. The backyard is a special spot. Fully fenced in, it feels super private and a world away — plenty of decks, lounge spots, garden beds, and a fire pit for you to enjoy on a chilly evening with friends. Best of all, there`s a new wood-fired sauna for you to enjoy -- perfect for the wintertime.

—————
LAUNDRY
—————

There is a washer and dryer in the unit, fully free and open for you to use at any time.

The entire second floor of the building is yours!

I will interact with guests as much or as little as needed -- I love to give recommendations on where to eat, where to see great live music, etc. I`m reachable 24/7 via phone, text, and email.

I know this neighborhood inside and out, and will provide you with my ultra-awesome, comprehensive neighborhood guide when you book :)

The takeaway: you`re in the epicenter of the best food, drink, coffee, art, and culture in town, walkable to most of it. If you`re a beer fanatic, you`re a stone`s throw from over a dozen local breweries.

When you venture out, you will find yourself in the heart of the Northeast Arts District -- a safe, charming residential neighborhood that is within 1-2 miles of coffee shops, grocery stores, restaurants, and all manner of excellent restaurants, bars, and attractions, in addition to incredible local breweries, hundreds of artist studios, and more.

Our street is a designated bikeway, among many others that cover the entire city. Minneapolis is one of the best biking cities in the country, and we provide maps and route advice to get you just about anywhere.

We are close to the center of downtown, the Minneapolis chain of lakes, and Target Field (the new Twins stadium). The largest art crawl/festival in the nation, Art-a-Whirl, takes place directly in our neighborhood every May.

There is plentiful, unrestricted street parking right in front of the house! You can walk to a ton of nearby spots from the house. Uber or Lyft rides arrive very quickly (typically within 5-10 min). Biking is a great way to get around this neighborhood — there are conveniently located NiceRide bike stations available nearby, and all over the city. There are major bus lines very close by which will zip you to downtown, the U of M campus, and most anywhere else -- including to the light rail, which connects with the airport, the Mall of America, and St. Paul.

Sales tax is included in your nightly rate.

We provide freshly washed towels, washcloths, and bedsheets for every guest. There is soap and shampoo/conditioner, and a hair dryer. There`s also a washer and dryer for laundry, which you`re free to use anytime, and an iron/board.
1. This is very important: NO loud parties, and noise must be kept to an absolute minimum after 10pm every night. You are staying in a duplex, and there will be guests staying in the other unit. Please respect this! If you are coming back to the house late at night, take care to be quiet when entering or exiting. Common sense stuff, but it`s all very important.

2. You are also staying in a neighborhood, and my neighbors are super cool people -- please respect them by being quiet and considerate when exiting/entering the house, and when you`re spending any time in the yard, on the decks, etc.

3. This is my house; I love sharing it with guests, but it is my home -- please treat it respectfully!

4. Please don`t wear shoes in the house; keep them in the entryway.

5. No pets.

6. No additional guests are allowed to stay beyond those who are booked -- please be honest about how many people are staying. There are very good reasons for this; if you have questions, just ask.

7. Absolutely no smoking, and no vaping or e-cigarettes inside. There is a backyard, back deck, and front sidewalk if you need to smoke. Please dispose of cigarette butts appropriately.

8. On checkout, please do your best to leave the apartment as it was when you checked in.

9. If anything comes up that`s not to your liking, please let me know so that I can fix it!

The reviews and ratings for this home do not accurately reflect this property’s poor condition. The positives first because it is a short list. The bed is comfortable, the location is convenient and the owner is responsive. The home is over 110 years old, has had heavy wear without being well maintained. We had an eleven-night rental. We left after five nights. Some of the things we found: wooden floors heavily worn with the finish worn away throughout/ cracked, chipped and nicked doors, frames and trim throughout/several centipedes and spiders/mouse trap in kitchen/stove was food stained/rusty bathroom shelf/rusty shower rod /shower tiles have caulk missing/no table to eat at/patio furniture dirty with peeling finish/living room coffee table and bedroom night table stained and/or chipped/dirty windows which was probably a good thing because no window coverings other than bedroom.

David and his wife are polite and nice folks, and I enjoyed meeting them. They were clearly not happy with the place from the moment they checked in, and I have a feeling it was due to not having fully reviewed the details, photos, and information about this very unique loft. For one, they seemed surprised that there was another unit with guests in it below them (clearly described in the listing). And as anyone can see from the vast majority of reviews, the loft is quite beloved. It has a TON of character. It's been a short term rental for over 10 years, with almost universal 5-star reviews. It's an old shopkeep's apartment that sits above what was once a Ukrainian grocery store in 1902 -- yes, the original maple floors are worn and old (which I love), and the original doors have some chipped paint. The tile is not brand new. It is decidedly NOT a sterile, characterless hotel room. People love it for what it is -- a super comfortable, lived-in space that has great energy and everything one could need for a longer stay. I am never happy when a guest is unhappy, but you can't win 'em all, and unfortunately this was just not the spot for David. But I'm guessing you'll love it if you're reading this.

Amazing place!

In a great, walkable neighborhood, close to plenty of tasty restaurants and cafes and other perfectly tailored recommendations. Also, the sauna was incredible!. Check in was a breeze, decor was spot on, the space was super cozy, and Pete very graciously helped us locate items left behind and get them reconnected with us—we would 100% stay again!

Cute and cozy spot in NE

Excellent stay in a charming NE duplex. Had all the essentials for a stay and a great location. As a previous resident of NE, I felt that the recommendations for things to do were 10/10. I’d stay here again in the future

Cozy and Inviting

We had a lovely stay and will definitely be back! The sunlight pours through the windows and the eclectic mix of books made me wish I could stay longer and indulge. Having coffee on the deck overlooking the courtyard was a high point. Thank you so much!!!

Great Weekend Visit

Clean place with actual character and a homey feel. Easy check-in/out. The location is quiet, yet the neighborhood is set up with plenty of places to easily get to on foot -- morning coffee, breweries, excellent meals and dive bars. When we needed to get somewhere farther away rental bikes, uber/lyft and public transport were readily accessible. We were out exploring so much that we didn't make use of the backyard or sauna, but both looked nice. Would definitely stay here again on future Minneapolis visits.

One night stay

Property as advertised though we were greeted by bags of dog poop and lots of cigarettes in glass container on upper deck. Smell of marijuana was pretty strong throughout stay. Kind of like off campus housing. Nice to have Alexa and streaming options, and it would have been fun with our dogs.
