About the host
Hosted by Kristin Allen
A bit of a vagabond, I fell in love with short term rentals while living as an expat and traveling back to the states for the summer. With two small children, I came to appreciate well appointed homes with fenced yards that allowed them freedom to roam while my husband and I relaxed. I remember all those 3am moments when we were awake from jet lag, looking for things to do to pass the time. Without activities, those moments could quickly spiral into anxiety. It's important that people can rest when they land. Now I get to provide to others what my family loved and needed after 24 hours of travel.
Why they chose this property
I love the Rexius trail that takes you to Martin Street trailhead for hiking in the woods, or the other direction to the University. You can take it past the University to the river trail and ride all the way to Springfield. Springfield has some great restaurants to hit up after the ride. South Eugene is full of small, charming bungalows that are 60-80 years old. The spirit of Eugene is here in the South neighborhoods. The biking/walking paths are full of runners and walkers of all ages. I particularly like watching the morning commute crowd: runners, walkers, skaters, bikers, bikers with trailers and baskets full of kids and sometimes animals. It's an eclectic bunch out there. You can also watch the high school and university cross country teams jogging in large groups.
What makes this property unique
We re-built and remodeled this house in 2021 and added porches on the front and the back. I designed the house to look out into the expansive yard and the ornamental cherry tree. Each room on the back of the house has a sliding glass door leading you out to the 700 square foot cedar deck with its 20 foot cedar ceilings. You could call it a cathedral of cedar paying homage to an old and humble cherry tree.
Thoughtful details throughout like the green kitchen cabinets, arched transition spaces and designer tiled bathrooms offer an authentic experience mirroring the variety of people staying here. Art pieces were curated to further support a sense of expansiveness in the space encouraging open mindedness, courage and generosity of spirit.
Finally, I named this property after a very dear friend of mind, Camille Chong, who transitioned to her heavenly home the month that we decided to turn our home into a short term rental. Camille made everyone around her feel special. She was known for her generosity, her kindness and for her contagious laughter. A native Hawaiian, I met Camille when she came to Chico State for one year to study. During that one short year, she made many friendships that lasted her lifetime. If this house could be a fraction as generous and loving as Camille, it will be a raging success in my book.
