About this property

Catskills retreat on 4.5 acres w/ fully stocked kitchen and fire pit—Sleeps 9

Feel like you're visiting your great grandparents' quirky, cozy farm house at our peaceful countryside home away from home.

Enjoy staying in with plenty of games, books and toys to keep busy. Go ahead and bake some goodies or warm your cheeks while roasting some 'mallows by our outdoor fire pit.

Or go out and explore the Catskills, waterfalls, lakes, hiking trails, caverns, drive-in, restaurants, or breweries!

Ideal for families, large groups, hunting parties, and remote workers—45 mins from Albany.

THE SPACE
1830s farmhouse with original tin ceilings, wood floors, and door hardware.

There are 4 private bedrooms (each with a minimum of 1 dresser for your use), 2 full bathrooms, two living rooms (one with an upright piano), an eat-in kitchen and separate dining area, an office, and a playroom.

Main floor master has a queen Tempurpedic bed.

2nd main floor bedroom has 2 twin beds, kids books, miscellaneous toys and a pack-n-play in the closet.

Upstairs master has a hybrid foam/spring king bed with, a toddler bed, a small TV with DVD player, and a desk with chair.

Upstairs 2nd bedroom has a queen bed.

All rooms have window A/C units in the warmer months.

Kitchen is stocked with utensils, dish ware (kid friendly included), microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender and other appliances, baking tools, herbs + spices, condiments, and baking basics (flour, sugar, etc.). NOTE: the fridge ice-maker is not working so please use ice trays or bring your own ice if desired.

Office has an iMac with guest access and a printer for your use.

Downstairs living room has a 45"TV with AppleTV. There are books for you to enjoy and take with you if you like. (Just don’t take more than a couple please.)

Play room has baby and kid toys, baby gates, board games, card games, puzzles, and an ancient (lol) dollhouse. The dresser has assorted DVDs for playing on either TV.

Our property is 4.5 acres (do not cross neighbor's POSTED signs). There is lots of wildlife so don't be surprised to come home to a family of deer grazing in the front yard. We would recommend keeping your pets indoors at night as there are hawks, bears, and fisher cats in the area.

Patio has a propane grill, a fire pit with with stacks of firewood for your use, and is lit by an outdoor light and string lights.

Side yard has apple trees, wild raspberry bushes, rose bushes, and lilac trees.

Backyard has a meadow, stream, and tree swing.

Oh, and our well water is clean and delectable.

The town playground, library, and Huyck Preserve waterfall are all within walking distance.

Nearby attractions include Myosotis Lake, Windham Mountain, Hunter Mountain, Plattekill Mountain, Howe Caverns, Secret Caverns, Vroman's Nose Hiking Trail and Vista, Zoom Flume, and more.

Lots of great restaurants and breweries within a 5-20 minute distance. 45 minutes to downtown Albany, (35 minutes to several major shopping malls). For longer stays, grocery shop at Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, or the Albany Co-op @40 mins away.

PLEASE NOTE: this is an 1830’s country home—it is quite old and well-loved and looks as much, so if you're expecting polished perfection it may not be for you. Additionally, we have regular Terminix visits but there’s no silver bullet and the occasional mouse is just a part of country living. If you leave food out on the counters you will attract mice and insects. If you are uncomfortable with any of this, please do not book our home. We promise we won’t be offended ;)

About the host

Hosted by Morgan Noble

Host profile image
I'm Morgan! I'm a designer, a long-time traveller, and a mom of two. I've been a successful host for over 4 years (on another platform) and am so grateful to have been able to rent our home to so many lovely, respectful guests. My children and I are very attached to the house, and if it weren't for our renters I wouldn't be able to afford to keep it in the family.

Why they chose this property

Rensselaerville offers such a sweet little oasis away from city life. The Huyck Preserve has a stunning waterfall, over 3 miles of hiking trails, and a lake with a kayak launch and lifeguard 'beach' area during the summer. Main street has an art gallery, an historic library (with a kids playroom and activity room in its basement), and a farm-to-table diner just past the Preserve. Many more dining options and fun activities are easily drivable from town, including: Howe and Secret Caverns, Vroman's Nose, Thatcher State Park, Zoom Flume, Windham Mt, Hunter Mt, Plaatekill Mt, Greenville Drive-In, etc.

What makes this property unique

Our house is a true gem—it's just far enough away from Main St. to be extremely private and on delicious, pure well water (not municipal). At the same time it's walkable to everything in town (3-10 mins) and we still have access to lightning fast broadband internet—most places in Rensselaerville are stuck with Satellite. We have 3 extremely fragrant lilac bushes, 2 apple trees and a pear tree in our front yard, wild raspberry bushes above our raised garden bed, a playground in the side yard and another tree swing on your walk down to the stream. The entire property is 4.5 acres so there's lots of privacy and plenty of room to roam. We also have great sledding in the sloped field next to the driveway.
