12 Heron - Great remodel underway and ready for Summer 2024 rentals.
Enjoy this ground level Hilton Head gem! The Happy Heron is located on the corner of Heron Street and Park Rd on North Forest Beach. Just a short walk to the beach or Coligny Plaza. Pups are welcomed to come along as well. Enjoy a fully stocked kitchen, remodeled in winter of 2023.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION / REMODEL
(10/1/2023 to 5/1/2024)

Starting October 1, 2023 we are remodeling and adding to 12 Heron Street (The Happy Heron). We intend to be open for business on May 1, 2024. As you consider your vacation spot for 2024 and beyond, here’s a list of the updates we’re making:
Addition of a 2nd Master Bedroom and Master Bath (will take the home to 4 bdrm / 3 bth)
Expanding the current Master Bedroom
Addition of a dedicated Laundry Room, with washer dryer, sink and cabinets
Updating Both of the existing baths (Master and Hallway); shower, vanity, countertops, flooring and accessories
Opening-up Kitchen and Living Room by removing walls and vaulting ceiling
Completely remodeling the kitchen with all new cabinets, appliances, countertops and flooring
New electrical throughout
New flooring throughout (hardwood and tile)
New drywall ceilings throughout
New HVAC unit and duct work with supply and returns in every room
New and updated furniture throughout
Updated landscaping

Perfect getaway!

We had the best time staying at the property! It was absolutely gorgeous and exactly as described. The kitchen was stocked with anything and everything you can imagine to make our stay feel like home. The location is superb, a block from the beach! The heated pool and hot tub was the cherry on top! We will definetly be coming back!

Amazing family beach home!

Our family of seven stayed in this house and it was probably one of our favorite houses! They thought of everything! It is decorated so nice and is only a quick walk to the beach and Coligny. There were deer we saw everyday on the street outside! We will definitely rent this house again!

Perfect for two families whose kids get along

The bunk bed room was key to this house being fun for kids. The pool was clean and well-maintained with easy quick walk to the beach. We enjoyed our stay!

Great place to stay. A few blocks from the beach and easy access to the beach. Family had a great time on the beach and the pool area. Not far from Coligny Plaza. Had a few minor problems but the property management took care of issues. Would stay in this location again if the opportunity presents itself.

Nice location with quiet neighborhood

This was a nice VRBO - walkable to cute shopping/cafes. It could use some updates (especially the kitchen) but we didn’t cook much. King beds were excellent - bunks were to be desired. Planned on using the hot tub but unfortunately it was out of commission. The gas grill was excellent - even had a new propane tank for when the attached one ran out.

We had a great stay at 12 Heron St. The house is perfect for kids and a close walk to both the beach and Coligny Plaza. The hot tub was great for relaxing once the kids were asleep, and everyone loved the backyard pool. Only minor complaint is that the master bed does not have a very comfortable mattress and the bed squeaks loudly anytime you roll over or shift during the night. Everyone agrees this was a spectacular trip and we would definitely rent this house again! Thanks for the great vacation.

Great family stay

Awesome property, close to beach and Coligny Plaza. Comfortable for our family during COVID restrictions. We did outside gatherings and had plenty of space for everyone. Enjoyed the dual living rooms, large eat in kitchen/dining room area. Only problem was the washer didn’t work properly and we notified the property manager. Would love to rent again in the summer.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and did not want to leave! We had a couple issues but communication was great and they were resolved. The twin bunk beds were too firm for my liking but the couch was super comfortable so I ended up sleeping on the couch. The hot tub and pool were fantastic! I would not hesitate to stay at this property again! Super close to the beach, great outdoor space and cozy interior. I miss the home and location so much! The wifi is not great but it was pretty nice to just unplug for the week so that really didn't cause any issues at all. This is a great find!

Fantastic Home for a Two Family Trip!

This house is fantastic! Everything has been updated, remodeled, etc. also, it is literally a 3-5 minute walk to the North Forrest area of Coligny Beach- we effortlessly spent hours at the beach each day and it was a blast. The house has tons of room. Our group included two families, 4 adults and 5 kids (ages 10-20). Everyone loved their rooms and felt like we were in the lap of luxury all week. The large open concept family room/kitchen was the hub of our families day to day activities. The kitchen was exceptional and our outdoor space including the spa and pool was a decadent luxury to the end of our beach days and a wonderful convenience for everyone on the trip to enjoy at any time. The saddest part of our trip was leaving. We love Hilton Head and it would be amazing if this was our permanent vacation home every time we visit Hilton Head Island.

Fantasic house, pool and location!

It was our first trip to Hilton Head and it did not disappoint. If I had to do it again, I would stay here. The pool is big and was the perfect temperature. The house is very comfortable and welcome and had everything we needed. The walk to the beach is short and direct and were happy to see how close it is to the town too. Everything you need is within walking distance including restaurants, shopping and even a grocery store. I saw a comment on another post that the house wasn't cool in the summer but we did not have this experience. We were there during a very hot time (July) and the house was cooled perfectly and enjoyed the ceiling fans as well. We took are dogs with us and had a nice neighborhood to walk them, a fenced area around the pool for them to be with us, and we were even allowed to take them on the beach (during the summer after 5pm to before 10am. It was a great stay! Thank you so much for sharing your house with us!

Happy Heron was a Happy Time

Perfect for our family vacation. The house is in a great location; short walk to the beach and Coligny Plaza. It was very clean when we arrived and had starter supplies until we could get to the store. Plenty of room for all of the family to gather outside, the living room, and around the table. The property manager/owner was timely in returning communication regarding the hot tub status. Not sure if it was just the time of the year but we had to clean the pool/sweep the pool deck every day for the acorns/needles. The pool company did come mid-week to give it a deep clean. The pool deck could use some work as far as uneven pavers and cleaning out the needles and acorns. Overall this is a fantastic property and with the upgrades they are planning will be an in-demand home for vacations!

Exceeded expectations

The house was very nicely decorated and spotless when we arrived. Location was perfect. Short, mostly shady, walk to beach and is located across from a small nature reserve. The kids enjoyed watching the deer and other wildlife (no alligators!). The bedrooms are large and roomy with comfy beds and plenty of storage. Loved the 2 "living rooms". We could close one off so the hard-of-hearing adults could turn the TV volume up without disturbing others. The kitchen was nicely stocked with more than enough dishes and cooking utensils/pans. We really enjoyed the outside area and the entire backyard is fenced. Our dogs could not get out and had a potty area away from the pool area. The pool area is much larger than it looks in the pictures. From what we found, you cannot heat the hot tub without heating the pool. That rendered the hot tub useless in August because we preferred the refreshing pool. Very minor point to us! We would definitely rent this house again!

Very good location and pool, house needs work

If I could have, I would have liked to have given this property a 3.5 out of 5 stars. But, we couldn't bring ourselves to give it a 4 star rating. The things we liked were mostly everything that we already knew about the property - the location being the primary positive. Also, the pool and hot tub were fantastic. The pool was heated well (first week of April) and the hot tub was great. The back patio area was fantastic. The negatives - the place was very tired and run down. All the dressers and most of the couches seemed old. Kitchen cabinets were beaten up terribly. The decor we knew from the pictures, but the age/wear was more than expected. Also, the cleaning crew didn't do a good enough job. There was a dirty kleenex and sock under the bed, and one of the living room areas hadn't been swept as their were leaves and sand on the floor. For the price, it wasn't a bad place. The location and pool area are fantastic. If you don't mind some age on the furniture either, you'll enjoy your stay here even more than we did! As always, HHI, and particularly North Forest Beach area was fantastic. Thank you!

Practically Perfect

This is the best location- easy walk to restaurants, beach, shops, etc. I would check before you pay to hear the poolZ our youngest was so excited about the hot tub and heated pool, and neither worked. The weather was cooler for this time of year , but others in the neighborhood worked. Other than this it was perfect.

Nice location and close proximity to the beach. Nice updated bathrooms and laminate flooring. The house inside could use some deep cleaning, but I suppose it is the end of a busy summer season. The spa was a little disappointing because it took so long to heat up.

Great for family vacation

This property was a great spot for a family vacation. Very short walk to the beach and close to the shops/restaurants in the Coligny plaza. The pool was an added bonus. The house could use a little love in terms of general maintenance and a good, deep clean. Overall, I would recommend a stay here at the Happy Heron.

Great small family home

Positive: Great, short walk to the beach, nice pool, nicely stocked kitchen, adequate washer/dryer, nice sized rooms. Less Positive: house was not vacuumed, we had to clean clog in vacuum to use. Once repaired we swept up 2 canisters of dirt. Also the air conditioner struggled to cool to 75 and rarely hit the set point of 73.

This location is everything we were looking for.

The property itself is what we expected from the description. We were able to walk or ride bikes to shopping, restaurants and the main beach. We had access to a more private beach within a short walking distance, as well. Day trips in the car were also easy. So glad we were able to visit this property.
