ABSOLUTE BEACHFRONT SHACK IN NENE VALLEY - steps to the beach
Relax with the family at this peaceful spot on the beach, stargazing is a favourite pastime. Bring your rods & catch your dinner right from the backyard. Amazing fishing spot. You will create memories in this quiet seaside town and bring your furry friend!. Nene valley is a remote town 15 mins from Port Macdonnell & 25 mins drive from Mt Gambier. It’s like camping but in a house! The limestone coast is home to amazing natural experiences including National parks , Mountain lakes & heritage - listed Caves . Go to sleep listening to the ocean and wake to birds chirping.
This home was a fisherman’s shack built in the 60s . It’s a basic house with functional , neat & clean rooms. Small bathroom & seperate toilet. I've recently renovated & replaced all linen etc to add to your comfort. The hero is the backyard - the closeness to the ocean . The ocean is often a beautiful shade of turquoise which looks stunning! We have rainwater tanks but I recommend drinking bottled water during your stay. Driving to Nene valley from Mt Gambier there's open fields of pine trees and lots of cows & sheep for the full rural experience. Nearby Port Mac (15 mins drive ) theres a general store , pharmacy and some great cafe's , pub and fish n chip shops serving fresh crayfish in season. Its a 25 min drive to Mt Gambier where you get all the supermarket favourites , homewares stores and some fabulous pubs with amazing architecture & yummy food. All the charm of a regional town and some fabulous activities centred around the famous Blue lakes & other natural wonders.

Cute, comfortable place for 2 nights. Appreciated the air con & coffee pods. Comfy beds & the owner & cleaner were very helpful when I left something there to go out of their way to help. Very thankful! Would stay again

Nene Valley... Who knew?
Never heard of this location until we tripped over this property when we were looking for something a bit different in one of our regular visits annually to the south east.
The property is exactly as promised, right on the water. Middle of winter didn't make a difference, our kids just loved it. Especially when a pod of dolphins spent an afternoon right in front of us.
My only request would be a fire pit somewhere so the kids could toast some marshmallows under the stars with the sound of the ocean in the background.
We'll definitely stay again 😀

The shack is fine, the host is responsive, however, we didn't know that there were excessive amount of seaweed on the beach. They were like 1 metre thick across the whole coastal line! We'd been smelling rotten eggs for a few days, couldn't walk on the beach, couldn't even stay outside at the backyard because of the smell. I ended up developing allergy reaction with my nose. The whole town like "ghost town". So, autumn going into winter is surely not a good time in that area. I wish the council could do more for the tourist, I mean, that's a beautiful place if we had better management in place. After coming home feeling awful, I googled it and found that it's a normal cycle for the seagrass to "shed" and it's quite common in SA's beaches. Well, we know it now. We had learned something new :)

Hi Ruby ,
Thanks for your feedback .
It's always dissapointing when expectations are not met.
Sadly mother nature is beyond our control and the tidal seagrass wrack on some reef beaches in SA plays an important role in sustaining the beach and marine environment & changes with the weather & tide. I doubt council will upset that for the tourists sake.
Both the random seaweed & the remote quietness of the area are mentioned in the detailed description - it's certainly not the Gold coast
