Location, location, location. The setting of this property with its stunning view of the Lumnezia valley cannot be beat. The only sounds are cowbells, birdsong, the wind, and the flowing river below. It is a wonderful getaway from the city, with unlimited spectacular hiking opportunities in the area.
The 150-ish year old house is quaint and cozy, like stepping back in time except (thankfully) for the modern bathroom and kitchen. When the temperature drops, you can light a wood fire in the receptacle in the kitchen which heats up the lovely stone oven in the living room. The good quality linens in the bedrooms keep you comfortable and warm at night. Late at night when the sky is clear, it is amazing to gaze at the stars above the backlit mountains.
One caveat: the stairs to the bedrooms on the second floor are steep--though there is a railing to grasp. And the only WC is downstairs. Also, beware of the low door frames and beams. After a head bump or two, you learn to duck. There is one bedroom where the ceiling is so low, my husband could not stand up in there. But these quirks are part of the old charm of the place.
Thanks to Sonja for quick communications and to her mother for being so accommodating at check in and making sure we had everything we needed. It was a lovely stay that we highly recommend.
