About the host
Hosted by Helen M Spinelli & Peter D. Taillie
We created a wonderful apartment to share with travelers seeking a comfortable place to rest and have an adventure. Avid runner, cyclist, skier and yoga teacher who enjoys travel, meeting new people and experiencing exciting places. Especially like entertaining friends and family at our home and sharing camp fires and paddling on the Choptank River on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. My husband and I have often traveled without knowing exactly where we would end up or stay for the night which has added to our experiences with our sons. Really like our home's rural setting but close to Annapolis, MD Washington D. C. and Baltimore MD and just 4 hours from my hometown of New York City.
Why they chose this property
My husband Peter chose this property and then created Moot Point Farm and custom built our solar envelope house. The Choptank River, a major tributary to the Chesapeake Bay, is fresh water at our upper river location which provides seasonal swimming for the whole family. Additionally, there is outstanding fishing and abundant wildlife watching since there is very little development near our part of the river. The apartment is 20 feet from the stairs to the dock.
What makes this property unique
Having been called 'a tree house on the river' by many guests since there is a oneness with nature which is afforded by the design of our home. Only removing the trees necessary for the footprint of the house and having almost three walls of glass gives you a very real sense of being outside when you are in our home. The ever changing view of the river is always enchanting as is the ebb and flow of the tide. Having raised our two sons (now 22 & 23) on the banks of the Choptank in our unique home has been a rare joy and provided a wonderful appreciation of nature in our children.
