The Garden Chalet The Garden Chalet is a thoughtfully designed ADU with its own private entrance, full kitchen, and living room. It's a proper retreat, not a room in someone's house, but a complete space that happens to share a backyard with the owner (that's me, living upstairs). The Space Step inside and you'll find warm wood tones, natural light, and details designed to make you exhale. The bedroom is quiet and restful. The kitchen is fully equipped for real cooking, not just reheating takeout. The living room invites you to settle in with a book, a glass of wine, or a movie on a rainy Pacific Northwest evening. I spent a decade working with Relais & Châteaux properties and years living in Greece, Austria, and South Africa. Those experiences taught me that the best spaces don't just look good, they make you feel something. The Garden Chalet is where I put those ideas into practice. There's a coffee table book inside showing how this space came together, feel free to flip through. The Backyard This is where guests tend to linger. You'll find comfortable seating areas, a firepit for cool evenings, a hot tub tucked among the greenery, and a landscaped waterfall that sets the tone the moment you arrive. It's part Mediterranean courtyard, part Pacific Northwest retreat. Guests often describe it as an unexpected oasis. One guest from Germany told me the jasmine climbing our old tree stump reminded her of June in Sicily, the scent hit her the moment she stepped out of her car. That's the kind of detail I design for: not just how a space looks, but how it makes you feel. The Wine Journey On your console table, you'll notice a curated display of wine glasses, each one representing a different tasting room at the Vancouver Waterfront, just a 10-minute drive away. Inside each glass you'll find a complimentary 2-for-1 tasting voucher. Choose your own adventure and explore some of Washington's best wines. It's a small thing, but it's the kind of detail that turns a trip into a memory. Location The Garden Chalet is tucked in a quiet Vancouver, WA neighborhood with easy access to both the Vancouver Waterfront and Portland. You're close to restaurants, hiking, wine country, and the energy of the city, but when you come home, it feels like you've left it all behind. Dedicated parking leads directly to your private entrance. No shared hallways, no awkward encounters, just your own space to come and go as you please. A Note from Your Host I take pride in this place. Hosting isn't a side hustle for me, it's an extension of how I think about design, comfort, and what makes a space feel like a genuine getaway. If you need anything during your stay, I'm nearby. If you want complete privacy, you'll have it. I hope the Garden Chalet feels less like a rental and more like somewhere you'd actually want to come back to.

About the host
Hosted by Dieter Lombard
With a background in high end boutique hotels, trained in Europe and having lived in different countries, I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences with guests, also including home and landscape design.
Why they chose this property
The property is on the outskirt of the inner city on a quiet dead-end street. I was attracted to the home for its large backyard and Tuscan style home design. That inspired me to design both interior and landscape to give that Tuscan feel.
What makes this property unique
I have designed the house and landscape based on my history in travels. I lived in Greece for 3 years as a teenager and think I got bitten by the love for Mediterranean architecture and landscape. You will notice that I tried to incorporate those elements in the landscaping with olive trees, rosemary, lavender and all types of flora that resembles a Mediterranean garden.
