Cozy, Private, Treetop Home in Quiet Area with Ocean & Mountain Views!
Casa Sophia is a hidden jewel in Manuel Antonio. Located in a quiet, secluded neighborhood on the eastern side of Manuel Antonio, this 3-bedroom home offers privacy while still being just a short 10-minute drive from the beach, national park, and amenities. The home could not have a better layout: Every room in the home--from the kitchen to the master jacuzzi--has a gorgeous vista over the treetops towards the distant Talamanca mountains and Pacific coastline.
The entire upstairs is dedicated to the huge master bedroom, with its massive bathroom and jacuzzi tub, walk in closet, and covered verandah. It also has the best views in the house. Downstairs are two nearly identical bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom and direct balcony access. The view is framed by the rainforest canopy--and nearly daily one can sit back and try to identify the three different local types of monkeys playing in the trees:
The congos are easy--they're the ones who wake you up in the morning.
The titis are easy--they're the ones who steal your bananas.
The white-faced monkeys are easy--they have... white faces.
The sloths are probably wondering what you're doing up in the trees with them.
Its great company up in the canopy!

We had a lovely stay at Casa Sophia - we were a family 4 (kids are 8 and 10). Really cool property to be at the top of the canopy - there are monkeys galore! The house is nice and big and the pool was clutch for the hot days.
What an awesome property! We were 2 couples and a 12 year old. More than enough room for all of us. Vanessa was extremely helpful in scheduling a private chef for the night we arrived (Alex made us an amazing meal) and booking us a tour of Manuel Antonio. She was quick to respond to any issues we had. The back deck was glorious and private, perfect for waking up with coffee, the birds and monkeys. There is a fantastic restaurant within walking distance. The pool was nice for relaxing in after a long day of adventuring.
Gorgeous property and well appointed. View with spectacular. Very much enjoyed coffee in the morning with a view. Vanessa was responsive incredibly helpful setting up activities. The property is up a narrow road, but was navigable. Dishwasher was not working, but was not a huge problem.
Everything about the house, the communication, and the assistance with planning our vacation was perfection. We couldn’t have had a better experience and can’t wait to return. Thank you for the experience!
Enjoyed our stay. Morning Monkey visitors. Very comfortable and well equipped. The hood getting there is a bit sketchy nut so are many houses I’ve stayed at before.

Located just outside the main tourist area of Manuel Antonio national park and 500m from very good local restaurant casa Sofia is a very beautiful property.
The inside is very spacious for 2 families of 4. There is secure parking for 2 cars.
Our families loved the pool and deck. From the deck we saw up close 2 types of monkeys every day during our 3 day stay.
We had a Great stay
The house was gorgeous. We arrived to a chef that made us dinner (fee) and it was delicious. The house and location was more than we could have hoped for. There is a small store very close by and restaurants within walking distance. If I were to do my trip again, I would spend more time here!
House is cool, roomy with great views across Manuel Antonio to ocean. Pool was small but perfect to wallow in and watch the wildlife- squirrel and capuchin monkeys; toucans, iguanas, scarlet macaws and giant crickets. Kitchen was very well equipped and had all the home comforts- washing and drying machines. Dishwasher, blender and waffle maker. Shop just a few mins walk away had everything we needed - even vegan options. We loved it and were sad to leave. Great base for all the local activities.
This house is the epitome of under promise and over deliver. The location had a terrific view from the master suite. The patio/balcony would have a mirror image view to the master suite if the tree in the middle of the view were to be removed or trimmed back. The house has plenty of space for everyone in your group and more. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, skillets, cups, plates, and utensils. Each bedroom having a full bathroom and a 1/2 bathroom in the laundry room really helps when returning from an outing. The front door can be a little tricky to open, but once you understand the issue the door opens easily. You must pull the door before using the door knob. The pool is a welcome relief after a day of activities. The pool is smaller than presented in the pictures, but makes up for it in depth, approximately 4 - 5 foot in depth. This is the perfect house to have space for each person in your group. The mini split air conditioners definitely helped to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the house. The gutter system definitely helps to channel the rain water to the down spouts to leave a beautiful view. However, the gutters need some repair on the back of the house, several of the tie straps have broke creating an area of hanging gutter allowing the rain water to overflow the gutter, preventative maintenance will prevent significant unseen damage to the facia and potentially the rafters. Overall, Casa Sophia, receives the highest rating.
We absolutely loved our week-long stay at Casa Sophia. The house is beautiful and large (the pictures do not do it justice) and has everything you would need for a great vacation. Kent and Carli helped us arrange transportation from SJO to the rental car in Quepos, our day trips, and our guided tours which is such a nice perk. Everyone was so responsive and available when we had any questions or concerns. When the internet went out in the neighborhood because some monkeys got to the wires, Carli offered us another house to use for the day just so we could check email. Remember to look out at the beautiful view frequently, as animals can seem to appear out of nowhere. We had a troop of about 25 squirrel monkeys pass through, along with some capuchins (one with a baby on its back), and even saw a sloth. There are also a pair of black iguanas that seem to like the pool deck as their sunny spot. Although driving and parking in Manuel Antonio can be a bit tricky, we recommend renting a car so you have the freedom to get around. The only thing we would change about the property would be to add room-darkening blinds to the master bedroom, but that's a minor issue in an amazing property. You cannot go wrong with Casa Sophia and highly recommend this property!
The process of renting was effortless. It was very easy through VRBO. Once that was done everything fell right into place. Pictures don't do this home justice. The views, animals and the sounds of rain while sitting out on the balcony was so relaxing. It was our first vrbo we normally do all inclusive resorts but I think after this experience this maybe the way we travel.
Our stay at Casa Sophia was wonderful! Both Kent and Winny were extremely helpful and responsive before and during our trip. The house was beautiful, just as pictured, and was the perfect place to spend our week in Manuel Antonio.
We saw so much wildlife all from the comfort of the living room. The kids had fun playing in the pool and bird watching from the pool deck. We all enjoyed the open layout of the house. The bed rooms and bathrooms were very well appointed. Just all in all a wonderful stay. Thank you so much!
The property is gorgeous and the pool is nice. The house is tucked away so it is very private, with beautiful views. Very close to Manuel Antonio National Park which is a must see. Winny was very responsive when I had questions. I would stay again.
Perfect. Kent is great, the home is exactly like the pics. The only small issue I had, was the water did not get that hot in the master bath shower. And the jacuzzi tub is awesome but takes FOREVER to fill because the water pressure with only hot water is low. But def worth staying. The views are amazing and close to everything!! Kent is helpful and responsive.
Beautiful, Well Equipped Home with Excellent Pool and A/C
Amazing Master Suite upstairs with gorgeous jungle canopy view. The bed was excellent, very comfy. Lots of room and storage.
2nd Bedroom was also very nice with deck access and a good mattress and shower.
3rd, “red” bedroom, while beautiful, was not so great. The mattress was very thin and guests were uncomfortable the whole time. A better mattress for this room was the only complaint.
This was our first time to Costa Rica and we spent so much time outside of the home exploring! To come back to this nice home after a long day of fun and cool off in the pool was perfect! The master suite was SO nice and comfortable. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook. Laundry room was nice.
The House manager, cleaning, pool and maintenance staff were exceptional! Very helpful and did an amazing job.
Our family looks forward to visiting again and would definitely stay at Casa Sophia again.
We had an amazing time staying at this home. The kitchen is fully stocked with just about everything you could want for cooking. Every room is nicely decorated and very clean. All the beds, sheets and pillows are very comfortable and not to mention the outdoor deck over looking the jungle.
This home has plenty of room for a large group of people. There are so many sitting areas for your guests to enjoy them selves. The master bedroom is amazing and is like a suit all by its self. The out door enclosed deck off of the master is a great place to Sit with the windows open after a day at the beach.
The pool area is a little small and could use a table and chairs but in general still very nice. It also has a gas grill out on the carport. The house is very secure with an alarm system and a scure gate to get in to the home.
The only few things that I found that were a down side to the home. The two cabinets for the dishes were way to high,
I guess that is why they have a step stool. The other was the breakfast bar is also to high. It's a little hard to get in and out of the bar stools.
I would highly recommend this hone as your vacation get away
Casa Sophia was the perfect house for our family vacation. Such a beautiful, spacious house in a great location, just up the road from the best restaurants and beaches in Manuel Antonio. We felt very safe at this house. We were visited daily by the monkeys and even had a Sloth hanging on the tree right out in front of the house. The kitchen is fully equipped. Our concierge, Kent, arranged ziplining, a Mangrove boat tour to Nasarcosta and National park tour. It was all perfect. Aleyda, the housekeeper was a delight. Thank you Casa Sophia, we will be back. The Garland family
A beautiful home located in a friendly neighborhood within walking distance to supermarket, and some restaurants. Very comfortable beds, lots of room to spread out and enjoy the beautiful view, which is exactly as pictured. Our concierge was wonderful in helping us when we needed anything. One of the best vacations we’ve ever had!
We were four adults and a two year old. Everything was enjoyable. The house was clean and had everything you would need. The house is set above the canopy so you see animals and bids from and differ perspective. We saw scarlet macaws, Tucson, monkeys, hummingbird birds, butterflies, and a three towed sloth. The house was very nice, and as other reviews have stated the pictures don’t do the house justice.
The property is beautiful, spacious, private, safe, clean and really comfortable. We felt right at home! The view is fantastic. We spent a lot of time on the porch watching for monkeys and trying to identify the source of all of the unique sounds that we don't have in the Midwest. The location between Quepos and Manual Antonio is great, but you definitely need to rent a car to get around easily. There are endless restaurants and things to see and do. We wished we could stay for a month!
Casa Sophia is much more beautiful than in the pictures. Excellent communication with Kent. The cleanliness is impeccable, a cozy and very private place, very well equipped. Delivery services from restaurants and supermarkets available. We were able to see lapas, iguanas, and monkeys inside the property, which was fascinating for our daughter.
We were so happy at our stay at Casa Sophia! The house is beautiful and had everything we needed. So spacious! Vanessa was beyond helpful and the maid service was a real treat for us, we did not expect this at all .The pots and pans and the kitchen items needed to prepare meals were very nice quality. The only suggestions, we were constantly washing up forks, spoons and knives. A few extra of those would make the house beyond the best!
We did a few activities, fishing on the Cowboy with Capt yeri and Luis was the best, we caught 5 Mahi Mahi and one sail fish! We ate fish all week.
4 wheeling and zip lining was great too. Vanessa set this up with Manuel Antonio Safari adventures, the lunch was delicious! A day at the park was great and we loved our horse adventure with Randall and again had a delicious lunch.
Thank you again and we do hope to return.
Casa Sophia is a welcoming and comfortable home at the end of the street within a local neighborhood. There is a market and "tipico" restaurant within easy walking distance operated by friendly local entrepreneurs. The concierge Vanessa was very helpful with arranging a pizza delivery the night of our arrival!! She also easily coordinated several excursions and obviously had great local contacts to help with other requests during our stay. We had a relaxing and fun week - including enjoying the wildlife (capuchin monkeys!), toucans, parrots and geckos that we could see from the porch. We highly recommend this home and location within easy walking and driving distances to many Manual Antonio and Quepos amenities.
We had an amazing experience renting Casa Sophia in Manuel Antonio. Vanessa, our property manager/conceriege couldn't have been more helpful. She surpassed our expectations and even gave us home baked breakfast bread for our last morning. All the recommendations and reservations she made were excellent. A first class experience.
We had a great time staying at this house. Nice place, clean, and a very helpful and kind property manager, willing to help and making us feel comfortable.

About the host
Hosted by Kent Thompson - Manuel Antonio Rental Properties
Hi--my name is Kent Thompson, and I'm the property manager. I'm from Colorado originally, but lived here for over 20 years.
Why they chose this property
Casa Sophia is truly one of those hidden jewels. From the front, it appears to be an average home--but once inside it is easy to see that it was designed and furnished for comfort--as well as views. The main living areas are all at the level of the rainforest canopy, giving a unique vista. Furthermore, every room in the home has a view!
What makes this property unique
Casa Sophia is located slightly off the beaten path, in a quiet neighborhood. It's easy to get places--Quepos is just 8 minutes away, as is the main beach and national park, but it's also easy to get away from the high-season traffic.
Plus--what other home gives you views over the treetops?
