Magical 9 acre Tuscan estate in exquisite setting 15 miles fromFlorence
This stunning private 9 acre estate offers two fully independent houses and a saltwater pool with gardens, terraces, olive groves, fruit trees and a park for children. The views throughout are breathtaking and frame two Renaissance castles/wine estates. It is the perfect setting for multi generational family reunions with grandparents often opting for the nearby but private Guesthouse.
The main house unfolds behind the original 11th century watchtower, which protected the Castello di Vicchiomaggio in medieval times. The property was first renovated in 1990 and then again from 2022 to 2025 when modern amenities, the pool, local A/C units, thermal windows and landscaping were added.
The stone main house offers three large terraces for indoor/outdoor living . You will enjoy reading or conversing in the sunlit living room and drinks, dinner or games in the adjacent dining room. Inevitably, most guests congregate in the spacious farmhouse kitchen with its open fireplace, oak dining table for 12 and well appointed cooking area. From the kitchen, dinners--whether home cooked or prepared by a chef--spill out onto the back terrace where a stone dining table seats 12 under a giant oak that shades the setting sun. A stone grill is a delight for those who want to sample the famous local butchers fare, sourced from their own farms.
From the spacious foyer, stairs lead to the upstairs living room which is a smaller private space for reading, yoga, deskwork or watching movies. It opens onto the private bedroom wing (4 bedrooms, 2 large bathrooms), the 11th century tower bedroom with en suite bath and the stone path leading to the pool. In the bedroom wing, the four double bedrooms are arranged into two private areas--each area with two bedrooms and a shared full bath. In addition, a third full bathroom is easily accessible to three of the bedrooms. All bedrooms have separate AC/heating units and screens. Beds are firm with a choice of high quality linen duvets or lighter cotton coverlets depending on your sleeping preference.
The Guesthouse is an architectural gem with soaring views from the 15' thermal window. It offers both privacy as well as vicinity to the main house and pool. The first floor offers a living room, dining room, working fireplace, Bose speaker, smart TV and kitchen. Upstairs is the master bedroom with en suite bathroom and walk in closet. It is fully air conditioned.
Stone paths lead to the saltwater pool enclosed by jasmine, roses, santolina, bay and lavender. Look between the rock walls for capers! A pergola and umbrellas offer shade as do the iconic Riccione chaise longues. The pool has a quick close cover and locking gate for safety.
From the time of your booking until your departure, your stay will be supported by your concierge, Federica, who will help you to organize your trip and can set up in house cooking classes/chef, catering for dinner parties, extra cleaning services and private tours etc. As a convenient add-on service, she can stock the kitchen with an agreed shopping list so that you arrive with all on hand.
We welcome children and have made a special effort to provide activities for them as well as a children's guide to local activities. Outdoor games include croquet on the lawn, badmitten, frisbee, soccer and baseball. For rainy days, there are children's books, yoga and board games. Pasta making is available at the large kitchen table and is also a fun activity for children.
The lively market town of Greve is 3 miles south and Florence about 15 miles north, both with convenient parking. The area offers wonderful biking and hiking with e-bikes available in Greve to manage the hills. Tours of wine estates abound with the historic Castello di Vicchiomaggio, Castello di Verrazzano and Villa Calcinaia all within a mile or so. Hilltowns a short drive away include Montefioralle, Panzano, Siena, Radda, Castellina in Chianti and San Gimignano. Also recommended for tours and lunch are two medieval Abbys--la Badia di Passignano and Badia di Coltibuono,
The houses are both beautifully appointed and furnished with original 17th century Italian walnut furniture, paintings and fine table settings for special occasions.

The property was wonderful with plenty of room and amenities. The views were great and we were central to a lot of activities in Tuscany. Federica was a wonderful host who helped throughout the entire process and was very helpful with any onsite needs or suggestions
The most amazing home! Perfect location, Federica was the most amazing host! So helpful and attentive, we cant wait to return,Highly recommend 10/10!!!!
My family's week long stay at LaTorretta Chiantigiana was wonderful! The setting was perfect just what you'd expect a villa in the Chianti area of Tuscany to be like. The villa itself was charming with plenty of room and the pool was a hit with all of us. We enjoyed a very special cooking class of pasta and pizza for my granddaughter's birthday at the villa and also enjoyed dinners at many of the area's local restaurants! Federica not only did an outstanding job making many reservations for our large group she also checked in with me daily to see if there was anything at all that she could assist us with and she did! The town of Greve was close by (and a beautiful drive) which had restaurants, a morning market, grocery store, pharmacy, etc. We made day trips to Sienna (hour away), Lucca and Pisa (90 minutes), visited other Chianti towns and enjoyed driving through the beautiful countryside. Relaxing at the villa was perfetto too! My family highly recommends this charming Tuscan villa and by the way you will need a car. Ciao, Sue
Frederica and team make everything so easy. She provided amazing recommendations for eating out, drinks etc. and was available at any point on WhatsApp, incredibly attentive! We had a fantastic time at this very special place and would be very happy to come again.
We absolutely loved our stay in Greve. The villa was wonderful. Plenty of room, comfortable with a great kitchen complete with Nespresso maker as well as traditional drip pot. The pool area is lovely as well as all the surrounding grounds. Federica was a wonderful contact for us throughout the stay. She was great with the planning before traveling and extremely helpful once we got there. It made all of the difference for me and my group. I would not hesitate to stay here!

About the host
Hosted by Federica Magnanini
The owners, Jennifer and Cesare, are partly retired and live between Washington DC, Cat Island and Italy. While Cesare's roots are in Bologna, we fell in love with this property in 2021 and set about renovating and landscaping. Jennifer provided the more practical American side, while Cesare focused on the landscaping. We have a daughter, Livia and are looking forward to her wedding with Noah in 2027 with the reception to be held at Il Castello di Vicchiomaggio. Finally we have a cockapoo who you may spot in some of the pictures. And finally, you will glimpse our family of outdoor cats who keep the house mouse-free: Big Yellow and Pici and their four offspring: Platini, Butterscotch, Macchiavelli and litle Pici.
The house is gracefully and efficiently managed by Federica Magnanini, our dear family friend, who was Livia's second mother and Italian teacher in DC in the 1990's! While originally from Milan, she loves this part of the world and sharing with guests special experiences off the beaten track.
Why they chose this property
The beauty, the light, the vicinity to Florence and the charming "real" town of Greve. The area is a crux of nature, working the land, art, architecture and history. We will provide you with a custom guide to help you go beyond the main sites of Florence and peek into the lives of artisans, monks, winemakers and olive oil producers. And a children's version is underway.
What makes this property unique
It feels as if you've stepped into a Renaissance painting. There is a special light. The photos do not do it justice. The light shining in the house. The giant oak shading the dining terrace. The peacefulness of the olive grove. The views of the Renaissance castles from the pool and "il prato". And the surprise when a fox, hare, pheasant or deer crosses your path. (The property has a protective fencing to keep out wild boars!)
The property is commodious and sleeps a large group but offers many comfortable corners and niches in the house and garden for reading, writing, yoga, listening to music or a massage. Many of the furnishings and paintings come from the owners' family and have been passed on through the generations.
We are located about a 30 minute drive to Florence. The location is convenient for visiting the hilltowns of Tuscany and travel to/from other Italian cities. The high speed trains from Florence connect to Rome (1.5 hours), Bologna ( 30 minutes), Milan (1hr 40 minutes) and the house is also not far (about 20 minutes) from the main expressway--the A1--that connects Rome-Florence-Bologna-Milan. The area is well served by airports at Rome, Florence, Pisa and Bologna. Thus you may be in the heart of Chianti and the Renaissance but are not far from the main highways and byways of Italy.
