About this property

The Top Shelf on the Bourbon Trail in Historical Downtown Versailles

The Top Shelf is a Kentucky-themed 1400 square foot apartment with equine and bourbon decorative accents from local artists. Upon entering the building, you will fall in love with the open concept kitchen and living room area. This area has great natural light with 10 foot ceilings and refurbished wide-plank poplar hardwood flooring and direct access to a large private deck with grill and seating. The living room has a smart TV on a large exposed brick wall and a sleeper sofa bed. There is a large white quartz countertop eating area in the kitchen that is fully equipped with all the necessary cooking amenities.

A large, wide hallway with stunning equine photography leads you to the first bedroom with a queen bed and en-suite full bathroom. This bedroom has an electric fireplace, a smart TV, and closet. The attached, private bathroom has a relaxing, clawfoot tub to soak and relax in with your beverage of choice.

The primary bedroom is at the front of the building and boasts three, large windows looking down on Main Street that provide amazing natural light and great view of downtown Versailles. This bedroom has a king size bed, original heart pine hardwood flooring and exposed brick wall with smart TV. There is a nice seating area for two in the room for enjoying your morning coffee! The en-suite primary bathroom has a tub/shower combo and is next to a large walk-in closet with full length mirror, dresser, and security safe. Additionally, the laundry room with a nice washer and dryer is attached to this bathroom.

The Top Shelf is located next to Governor's Park which is a small, pocket park with seating and tables to relax, read a book, or enjoy a cone of gelato. The park is accented by a classic Coca Cola mural on the side of our building reminiscent of days gone by.

We are minutes from Keeneland Racetrack and the perfect home base for trips to Kentucky's famous distilleries like Woodford Reserve, Buffalo Trace, and Castle &Key. The Top Shelf is second to none in Woodford County.

The Perfect Stay

This was our best VRBO stay ever (and we’ve done quite a few!). The accommodations were inviting and comfortable. The cleanliness and attention to detail were exceptional. We enjoyed our stay at The Top Shelf. It was clean and comfortable and the location was great. It does get a little noisy in the main bedroom as it is right above Main Street, but that is to be expected. We would stay here again.

Charming and great location!

I very much recommend this property! My family really enjoyed staying at this property. The kitchen is well equipped and has plenty of space. The living spaces are good sized and beautifully decorated. The property owner is very responsive and helpful when I had questions. I wish we could have spent more time in Versailles and at this property.

We spent a long weekend at the Top Shelf and thoroughly enjoyed this lovely property and everything it had to offer. Matthew is an excellent host. Very prompt replies any time I reached out to him. The apartment is so beautifully decorated and it had all the amenities you would expect. It was also in the perfect location near everything we wanted to do and see in the area. We took the Bluegrass Scenic rail trip, shopped in downtown Versailles, went to the Kentucky Horse Park and visited several distilleries among other things. I will definitely be back and highly recommend the Top Shelf to anyone who is visiting the area. You will love it!

Perfect small town loft!

We came in for a high school graduation and stayed here with our two kids. The property manager was very accommodating for both early check in and late check out which was very helpful. Everything was very clean and decorated perfectly with local decor - horses and bourbon. The beds were comfortable and our kids loved the “fancy bath”. We walked to a donut shop for breakfast. Kitchen was fully stocked. Parking was easy to find. No complaints!

Amazing place to stay.

We wanted to visit family in the Versailles area and wanted to experience downtown Versailles. It is an amazing town. We were excited from the pictures but seeing and experiencing this place in person was just wonderful. Great kitchen, beautifully decorations, tremendous information on the area and Matthew, the host, was the best we have had an experience with in all the travels we have done.The area around Versailles is so beautiful and fun to drive. We did not to visit the Distilleries this time but just driving by the horse farms is amazing. Lexington is very close and it is such a great city.We would recommend this spot for a couples get a way or a family. It has private parking and the town is very walkable to stores and restaurants.We will be back for sure!

My brothers and I purchased this building because we saw the great effort this community has put into bringing the historic downtown atmosphere back to life and we wanted to be part of it. The Top Shelf is a spacious whole floor apartment with hand nailed wood work craftsmanship, tall ceilings, exposed brick, repurposed barn poplar hardwood floors, historic building that has been completely updated. It is Kentucky themed displaying local artist’s work all around. Woodford County is the birthplace of bourbon and the horse capitol of the world and we think you’ll love how our apartment reflects that.
