About this property

Cozy, updated mid-century house. Close to downtown and Mt. Rushmore.

This cozy fully furnished mid-century bungalow is set in a quiet south side neighborhood and offers a wonderful retreat. You'll feel at home as soon as you walk in the front door. Enjoy all that Rapid City and the beautiful Black Hills have to offer from a convenient base with all of the basics.

Close to downtown restaurants, city parks, groceries, and Memorial hospital. Downtown Rapid City hosts a number of civic events during the summer months including street fairs and music in the town square. Close-by Canyon Lake park, fed by the clear water from Rapid Creek, offers an outdoor family setting for picnics with fishing and paddle boating during the warm summer months.

Located only a short drive to Mount Rushmore and a variety of outdoor activities including fishing and boating at Sheridan Lake and Pactola Reservoir, fly fishing in Rapid Creek, and many family tourist attractions.

Easy access to scenic highways leading to historic mountain towns founded during the Black Hills Gold Rush including Lead with its Homestake Mine and neighboring Deadwood that still offers gambling in a historic old west setting. Close by is the home of the world-famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

If scenic rides are your thing, try Spearfish Canyon or Custer State Park. Custer Park is home to free roaming herds of buffalo and pronghorn antelope. It is also home to idyllic Sylvan Lake and the spectacular Needles Highway, where you might find yourself face to face with the resident mountain goats. Devil's Tower in Wyoming is less than 2 hours away through the beautiful Black Hills. For tourist shopping and ice cream we suggest visiting Hill City or Custer during your drive.

We feature an updated kitchen with full size range, refrigerator, and microwave (sorry, no room for a dishwasher). The cozy living room furniture includes a chair, futon, and dining table with seating for four. The kitchen island provides seating for an extra guest. We provide a propane grill for cooking outdoor meals or just relax in your private, fully fenced back yard and patio.

The entertainment system is complete with free WiFi and internet access, a 42" smart TV with Roku to access streaming services, and a stereo receiver with CD and Bluetooth inputs for your music. We also provide free Netflix, board games, and nostalgic video arcade games.

Ideally suited for 4, but can accommodate 5, sleeping arrangements include two bedrooms with comfortable queen beds and a double size futon for a fifth guest. The full bathroom is newly remodeled to be clean, modern, and well-maintained.

The house is fully equipped with all the linens, dishware, and other essentials you'll need including free private laundry with basic supplies, iron and board, hair dryer and other bathroom basics, and central AC and furnace for year-round comfort. Private, off-street covered parking is also included on the property.

Notes:

No housekeeping services are provided during your vacation stay. A fully equipped private laundry is available for your use. There is no need to wash linens or make beds before checkout. Final cleaning is included at no charge to our guests. We will completely clean and restock after your stay.

The host fee of $10 per night is charged for short term renters' insurance covering most minor accidental damage to the property. No other security deposit is required. Guests are responsible, however, for malicious damage beyond the insurance coverage limits.

Great little house in Rapid

We enjoyed this house in Rapid. + The location is great. It is close to everything we wanted to do. And easy to find. (Anytime we got lost we looked for the hospital or hospital signs. :)) + The beds are comfortable. As good as the fancy bed I bought for myself. + We really appreciated the central air. It is quiet and cool. We come to the black hills frequently to visit family, and this was the best place we have stayed in the last few years.

Very accommodating and clean. Everything was perfect for what we needed it for. Close to downtown and grocery stores. We showed up with 2 motorcycles, they have a place you can keep your bikes out of the sun and rain. We weren’t there too much other than the mornings and nights. Was nice to relax there after our long rides, we weren’t able to use the grill, but there is one in the back along with outside seating in a very spacious backyard. Not far from lakes and mount Rushmore. Overall was a great experience.

About the host

Hosted by Eric Welker

Host profile image
We are Eric and Janice Welker. We are retired, currently live in Colorado, and bought this house with the intention of moving to Rapid City at some point in the future. Until then, we enjoy visiting Rapid City and all of the outdoor activities it provides, so we stay in this house between guests. Since we live there too, we can ensure a clean, comfortable, and well-equipped house for all of our guests.

Why they chose this property

The house is on a quiet street in a residential neighborhood. It is within walking distance of Memorial Hospital and only a few minutes from downtown, grocery shopping, and Walmart for supplies. There are no commercial businesses in the neighborhood, so traffic is minimal and you can enjoy a pleasant walk through tree-lined streets.

What makes this property unique

Here are comments from Pat and Dan K. who rented the house from Oct. 2023 - April 2024.

Your rental is the most well stocked one Daniel has had. It is a great little house. I've noted the things that make it very nice.
1. Great television with comfortable seating.
2. Quiet neighborhood (even the dogs next door don't bark).
3. You can literally see the hospital from the back door. Walking distance for medical staff.
4. Neighbors walk their dogs throughout the day-such a safe area.
5. Beautiful sunrises in the mornings.
6. Great updated kitchen.
7. Large utility/mudroom/laundry.
8. NO carpet - what a plus!!!!
9. Large washer/dryer combo.

On the minus side:
1. Provide another paring knife.
2. Add a couple more pots (small and medium).
3. Print off garbage pickup schedule (on holidays, they pickup the day before - I found a Rapid City schedule online).

Thank you so much for providing my son such a great home away from home. I will always appreciate your kindness.
