About this property

The Howard House Daniel’s Cove

A serene Newfoundland retreat, surrounded by nature and the rugged beauty of the Atlantic coast, this historic house at the tip of the Avalon Peninsula. Built in 1908, the house was lovingly restored in 2018, maintaining much of its original features and construction, highlighting the simple but elegant architectural styles of Newfoundland at the beginning of the 20th century. It has a spacious layout with a well-appointed kitchen, 1½ baths, and three ample bedrooms. WIFI Starlink available

We Host is a professional property management company based in Newfoundland! We typically answer messages between 10:30AM and 9:30PM Newfoundland time. However, we are available 24/7 by phone/text (9:30pm-10:30am urgent calls only, please)! You may find yourself speaking with any of our team members. The house is situated in a tiny hamlet with unobstructed ocean views, a short 5-minute walk to a rocky beach in this community that once hosted a thriving fishing plantation, now a small collection of cottages. Enjoy watching humpbacks breach and other whales (fin, minke, and even orcas, have been spotted) from the shoreline during the summer months. Seabird enthusiasts will be captivated by the diving gannets and kittiwakes, as well as horned owls and eagles. The adventurous can take part in the 5-km hike to Grates Cove, with its historic rock walls built by early settlers of Irish ancestry, and views of the ecological reserve, Baccalieu Island. Another highlight is the nearby community of Bay de Verde, accessed via a short car ride, or by a longer hike on a shared use trail from neighbouring Old Perlican

Guests have private access to the home and its property. We do ask for guests to not enter the garage.

The Howard House / Daniel’s Cove

Lovely house and very comfortable. The antique household items were very interesting. The dirt road leading to the house is rough but not an issue for our SUV.

Access to the property involves driving on a deeply rutted, rocked filled, gravel road for approximately 5 km. It took more than 20 minutes to drive 5 km because of the terrible road condition. We were given inadequate instructions to enter the property using a key code. The house is smaller than expected and lacked kitchen essentials such as butter, cooking oil, cutting boards, water pitcher etc. The tap water stank of sulphur, so we had to boil the water to get rid of the smell so we could drink it. It smelled so bad, we were unable to take showers. There were dvds available to view, but no cable or satellite tv. The towels were stained, the kitchen tap was loose, the countertops were stained. The view of the cove was beautiful. The trail to Grates cove is not worth doing. The skerwink trail is beautiful, but you do have to drive 4 km back down on the awful gravel road to reach it. Make sure you bring Al, the food you need.
