Family/pet friendly, first residential home built on Big Mountain!
Winter - A skier`s dream--walk 150 yards to Lift 3 and ski home to your door of the chalet`s 1400 sq ft, high-ceiling lower apartment/condo with a real wood-burning stone fireplace.
Summer - A hiker/mountain biker`s dream! Big Mountain is at your doorstep, and Glacier National Park a mere 33 miles away by car.
Many years ago, this large home was split into two completely separate condominiums. This lower unit is on the ground floor, and the upper unit is on the 2nd and 3rd floors. They have separate entryways from the outside, but please note the lower unitʻs mudroom (entry vestibule) contains the washer and dryer that is shared with the upper unit and a studio apartment over the garage.
The shared sauna is also accessible through this entryway. However, once you unlock the door to the lower unit, you have an entire 1,400 sq ft apartment to yourself with no shared spaces. You also have your own balcony.
If you have a large group, please check out our other listing “Historic Big Mountain Chalet Upper” which also sleeps 6.

The ad says ski in/ski out, but it’s not even close. The unit is unbelievably outdated. It’s the exact same door code to the unit as it is to the front door for the community stackable washer dryer, and sauna. The point of contact lives in Hawaii, so good luck getting any questions answered in a timely manner.

This review is quite unfair. Our basic rental description says plainly right up-front: "walk 150 yards to Lift 3 and ski home." On other platforms, being located near lifts is enough to claim ski in/out.
I wrote to this guest four times before he checked in, and gave our phone numbers and specifically told him to call me or my helper who lives 20 min away if he had any questions. He instead used vrbo messaging which I donʻt monitor for time-sensitive issues. The "timely" question he messaged is answered in the guest information inside the unit, which he would have seen if he had gone inside first.
The lock box and wireless entry codes are the same because no one has the codes except our house cleaner. They are the same to make it easier for our guests.
Many of our reviews state that our condo is dated, this is why the price point is so much lower than anything else around. I have since adjusted our description for people like Torey who donʻt have time to read all of the information thoroughly before booking.
Great location! Property however could use a little love. Furniture in tough shape with missing doors and handles. Kitchen drain was plugged upon arrival. FIREPLACE…be very careful as the top of the folding glass door face has large gap that allows tremendous amount of smoke into living area WITH flew in the OPEN position. We had to open windows and doors when I. Use until we plugged the gap with foil and then it drafted safely. Carbon Monoxide danger!Gutters in front are damaged and/or nonexistent causing very icy front entry. Short of these dangerous conditions, the property’s location was excellent for ski in/out and Fireworks New Years Eve!
