About the host
Hosted by James LeBlanc

My family settled in Spokane in 1972, I moved to the river in 1989 and built this home and raised my family here. I was a competition salmon water-skier, as well as proficient in all water sports. I have skied this river from Newport to Ione (50 miles) many times over the last 34 years. From my home I have explored most of the mountain roads and trails from Newport to the border and into Priest Lake ID on motorcycles, ATV's, and 4-wheeldrive vehicles. I also snow ski and love being close to the local ski mountains and the Canadian ski resorts. I have also hunted most of the mountains around here. In my older age I have become limited in my abilities and have decided to share my home with others that will appreciate all the opportunities this area provides. I am just learning to host and want to provide the best experience I can for my guests. Thus, if there is anything at all that you may need or we need to improve please reach out to us and we will do our very best to accommodate your needs! Please enjoy my home and the Pend Oreille River Valley!!!
Why they chose this property
I first came to the Pend Oreille river Valley after I got out of the Navy in 1981. I started exploring all the lakes in the area and all the mountain roads and trails with my children on motorcycles. We loved it all, we would fish the lakes in the morning, explore the mountains in the afternoon and swim in the evenings. Once I bought my first boat in 1985 we started exploring the river from Newport to Ione and from Boundary Dam to Box Canyon Dam (Z Canyon) a MUST DO if you spend any time in this area! There is also the Gardner Cave on the way to Boundary Dam also a must do! I was amazed at how little boat traffic there was and how the river was glass most of the time. A perfect fit for a water skiing and water sports family. I told myself that I will live on this river someday. Well in 1989 I found this lot and built my home on it, my dream come true! At the time I was one of a handful of fulltimers that lived on my road. We were still on party phone lines, look it up if you're to young to know what that is, LOL!
What makes this property unique
This area is the only spot on the river that faces directly south below Albeni Falls Dam, a bend in the river. With mountain access roads just a skip away and numerous lakes all within a few miles, what more could a man ask for; I have loved living here ever since! I love the sunrises and the sunsets with wildlife all around me!!! Geese, Ducks, Deer, Osprey, Hawks, and Eagles are always in my backyard. There is an 20 plus year active Bald Eagles nest straight across the river. I love watching them every year, so bring your binoculars, spotting scope or telescope. They are highly active in early spring and summer, but usually around most of the summer. Bird watchers count more than 450 Bald Eagles between Newport & Ione every year. Hunting is just across the street or up the road. Fishing abounds in my backyard river and in the lakes nearby. There are three ski resorts within an hour drive and several more within 1-2 hours. This is also a major snowmobiling, and cross-country ski area as well. There are almost limitless possibilities in this area so let your adventure begin!
