The House
Itâs old, quirky, and not perfectly straight, but itâs home. The house has 3 Bedrooms + 1 sleeping loft (2 King beds, 1 Queen, 1 Double), 3 En-suite Baths + 1 additional bath in the cave. The main spaces include a Kitchen with Dining for 10, Salon living space, office, and Roof Terrace. There is also a newly renovated Cave â a gaming lounge, jam space, and painting studio.
Getting to Know Montferrat
We highly recommend a stroll around town on your first day to get a feel for the area. In town, you will find the âCentre Villeâ with a cafĂ©, a bar, a small store, and Le Bastide restaurant. Check the doors for hours of operation, and keep in mind: stores in France are closed between 12 and 2.
Up and down the street youâll find La Poste, the town office (Mairie), the Mediatheque (library), and event boards. Take a hike up to the church you see from the terrace â paths are marked and easy to follow. Weâve included additional details for the path at the end of this package. We also recommend an 8-minute walk to the waterfalls (Cascade de Pierrepont), found on Google Maps.
Good Eats
We can help stock a few basics depending on when you arrive â just let us know!
The boulangerie in town is outstanding â try everything. There are two bars: one privately owned, and the other run by locals. Le Bastide is a newly renovated hotel with seasonal, local dishes â a reservation is helpful but often not necessary. Monfe Pizza, across from Le Pension, is perfect for something simple when you're tired.
Nearby markets are in various towns on different days. Montferrat has a tiny market, but Bargemon and Draguignan have larger, excellent markets. Montferrat also has a small grocery store for basics and local wines, open daily.
There are wonderful dining spots in neighboring villages like FiganiĂšres, Callas, Seillans, Bargemon, Flayosc, Tourtour, and Cotignac. Dining here is an event, starting after 7 pm and lasting hours. Reservations are preferred.
In Draguignan (the largest local city), youâll find two Carrefour grocery stores. The cheese and wine sections are worth the visit! The region is known for its award-winning RosĂ©, and youâll find Petite Casinos in Montferrat, Bargemon, and FiganiĂšres for essentials. Remember to bring your own bags (thereâs a stash in the pantry).
Kitchen Notes
Please review the kitchen equipment and supplies instructions upon arrival. Thereâs a washer and dryer at the back of the kitchen wall, with detergent and bleach in the pantry.
Donât put anything suspect down the sink to avoid clogs. There are containers next to the dryer for trash and recyclables, which should be dropped off at local sites.
The hot water comes from a boiler in winter and an electric heater in summer â both are very efficient (be cautious). The gas cooktop uses Butagaz, and thereâs a spare container in the Cave. If not, you can buy a replacement at the gas station outside of town. For the dishwasher, please clean off plates before placing them inside to avoid clogging the filter.
Help yourselves to the supplies in the kitchen.
Getting Clean (or Dirty)
Cleaning is scheduled after departure, but we can arrange mid-stay cleaning if preferred. The washer and dryer are available for use, and instructions are provided.
Be careful about what goes down the sink. Trash and recyclables need to be taken to the designated drop-off sites around town.
Everything you need for the kitchen is available, so feel free to use the supplies.
