About this property
Historic 2-Story Shot-Gun Garden District Double.
This Historic Creole Cottage was built in the 1830s and possesses all the unique charm of old New Orleans. Let’s visualize your arrival curbside to a brick-paved wooden cottage surrounded by wrought-iron fencing. It is adorned with large shuttered windows, red doors and a breezy porch. The scene is great for an outdoor snowball/po-boy picnic or cool cocktail prior to walking to the nearby art/antiques boutiques only two blocks away at Magazine Street. Imagine the smell of barbecue from the smokehouse only a block away and crepe myrtle flower petals blowing in the breeze( a Garden District classic). Let’s enter the red door and experience a charming French provincial living space with modern amenities. The black granite countertop has stainless steel backsplash and is equipped with toaster, coffee maker, bagels and microwave. There is a seated dining area for 6. The table is covered with place settings and a centerpiece. The fridge is stocked with water and wine per your order. You feel at home. Now you can head upstairs to the loft or walk through the kitchen into a hallway.
Upstairs there are 3 beds (2 twins and 1 queen) in a 19 ft by 12 ft area. There is a television within an armoire and a closet. 2 seating areas are available as well. Upstairs is carpeted with a window for natural lighting.
If you remain downstairs there is a short hallway which leads pass a full immaculate bathroom and another private bedroom with a full bed and bench seating and finally ending in the office pallor. This multi-purpose office pallor has a roll top desk, a television, a laundry closet and large couch to lounge on. This is a great scene for kids to watch television as they wait to attend the zoo, aquarium or a parade which are minutes away.
After walking through the office pallor, you will want to lounge but the master suite awaits as you sashay through. The master suite has a bathroom and separate study area that can double as an additional room by closing the pocket doors. The bedroom has a queen bed and the study has the television with a 2 daybed trundle sets that sleep 2 each. There is also a double mirrored closeted hallway leading to master bathroom.
If requested it is okay to the keep walking to additional space through the back master suite which loops into a connected mirror image open space with extra bathroom, extra television then with sofa sleeper, extra kitchen space, extra dining space, extra loft with 4 more twin beds and extra private room. Ask for unrestricted access to this space to expand living quarters from a 1500 sf to total 3000 sf.
The home is a double 3000$ square feet with a large back yard adding another 1500$ square feet of outdoor space. The home is a modified 2 story creole cottage. The traditional 1835 cottage is a shotgun style home with stairs leading to upstairs loft in the front, then room after room leading back into kitchen and lastly the bathroom . We modified one side of the double to place common area in the front with back master. We kept the other side more traditional. The traditional side is the extra space that a group of 12 would automatically get.
All furniture is elegant and antique. All bedding is cleaned, fresh and 400+ thread-count. There is central air, cable TV and wi-fi and security locks at the gates. You will enjoy this home so much, that you may not leave and enjoy a night on the town at the casino, Frenchmen Wharf’s live jazz and bourbon street (all 5 minutes away). Please come and enjoy our brand of hospitality and experience world renown entertainment, restaurant cuisine, tours, architecture and music. Lassiez Bons Temps Rouler!
The shot gun style means every room historically is assessible with a walk through. Modifications were made to the home to allow privacy. The lofts are upstairs/separate, the suite becomes 2 rooms with pocket doors, some rooms are cozier with doors to hallways avoiding walk through. Base rent covers only 6 guests/2 rooms. More guests get more rooms automatically. We add space per request as well.
Airport and convention transport available per request. Catered meals available per request. Additional space available per request to sleep 6 more individuals (by doubling the space) at an additional cost. Contact owner for special requests.

We had a great time, there was plenty of room, the location was great and convenient to a lot of great areas, and the host was extremely helpful and super easy to contact.
We had a great stay. The house is a huge historic double “Shotgun house” New Orleans is known for. It was very clean and had plenty of room to spread out and nicely furnished for a large group. Keep in mind this was probably built in the early 1900’s and has been restored, not gutted so old charm remains. Our host was easy to work with. Great spot for our Mardi Gras weekend! The area is fine, close to Magazine St. and walking distance to St. Charles through the Garden District.
I stayed here for a bachelorette party with friends and the location was very convenient for walk to Magazine or quick car ride around the city. The house comfortably held everyone.
The area is perfect, plenty of shops and places to eat within walking distance of the house. I would for sure look to stay in this area again when I return to NOLA. We stayed as a bachelorette party with 14 guests and we fit comfortably. Mia, the contact, was amazing, very responsive and helpful, letting us check in early and out late to accommodate the various different departure/arrival times. My only complaint would be the cleanliness of the residence. Walls and floorboards were unwashed, floors not clean and lots of areas of disrepair. Seemed somewhat understandable given the age of the home, but the cleanliness was not up to the standards you would expect from a hotel stay. One sink and a shower backed up with water when we got there and needed addressed within the first few a hours of arriving. Mia addressed it immediately and everyone had a place to shower and get ready for the day. Sheets and comforters smelled clean and there were enough towels for everyone. No washcloths so make sure to bring your own. All in all a great stay for location and ability to accommodate large parties.
Mia is timely, organized, a lovely host to deal with! The property was exactly as listed and we enjoyed our stay. Perfect layout for a bachelorette party at an extremely reasonable price.

Great old house with lots of charm
It was difficult to get the check in info but got it just before we arrived. The house has charm. Not much seating for the group. Cookware is unusable and couldn't wash dishes. Mia is great but needs a different cleaning crew
I was so excited when I found this creole cottage that would fit all of us. We had a range of ages from 5-40 and wanted to be far, yet close to Bourbon st. We were able to rent to whole house which did not disappoint. House had welcome water, juice and snacks which were a plus. Found out there was a Walmart near by which was also a plus for last minute items. A few restaurants were within walking distance and they were delicious.
Four stars for Property owner being a little slow to respond, no assigned street parking, and the road to the house about broke my car (major potholes).
Regardless of those things We would stay here again with the family!

Dated and unkept.
Not very clean. Bathrooms and bedrooms dirty. Carpet old, stained. Exceptional amount of leftover items from “previous” guests. (Bourbon, food, etc.) Water in Kuerig…not sure how long there. Coffee maker and Kuerig sticky. Had to fix toilet. No cable tv. Could only stream. Utensils dirty and limited (minimal plates). Hand soap watered down and no dishwashing liquid. We slept, avoided one shower (ewww) and used it as a base. We made due but not the best experience. Good communication with owner (no trash bags) but certainly didn’t want it to be cleaned after we’re already settled. Needs some serious TLC to bring it back to a good level.
We very much enjoyed our stay! The property was so cute, the communication with the property manager was excellent, location was convenient, the living rooms had fabulous furniture, and lots of beds and lots of towels so everyone was comfortable!
We were running out of tp and had to buy paper towels by the end, and had to warn every ride share driver about the giant pothole right out front (which I know is out of the cottage’s control). But aside from that, it was a perfect stay!! So glad we picked it and will definitely keep Old Lala’s Cottage close at mind when planning future trips to New Orleans!!
Great location. House set up/layout was weird -it was ok for a girls trip but prob not for couples. As master bedroom had attached room with 2 daybeds and trundles. And extra space that you can use attaches to master as well. AC struggled in the summer heat. Street only parking. It all worked for my group of friends.
This property was great for my bachelorette party. All the girls felt safe and had plenty of space in the house! This Vrbo is a good central location with shorter Uber rides to places you might want to see in New Orleans. I would use this property again!
We reserved the whole house for our 12-person group, which contained 3 families and a single, for our elopement. The house is gorgeous, spotless and affords privacy for separate parties plus room for everyone to socialize at once. Mia is the best host I have ever had at a VRBO-
welcoming, helpful and so warm and friendly. A+ for her and her home!
This cute, older cottage has an authentic vibe. The location is convenient to fun shopping and dining. Great coffee, donuts, and shrimp po-boys are within a block or two. Short Uber rides got us where we wanted to go but you could easily use public transportation, if desired. The hostess left a few treats in the fridge for our weary travelers. Plenty of fresh towels and coffee mugs were provided. Overall, a nice place for our group of 12 family members to gather and spend time together while exploring New Orleans!
Our check-in was rocky due to VRBO's inadequate communication with the owner. Upon realizing the problem, the owner made a special trip to make sure everything was OK. The house accommodated our group of 6 very comfortably. The location is convenient to downtown and parking on the street was easy. I would book again.
What a wonderful weekend at a wonderful house! Everyone we spoke to at the house was so helpful and welcoming. Thank you again for the wonderful hospitality. It was the best bachelorette party house I could've hoped for!

Good place
Clean neighborhood! The house is huge it was perfect for my bachelorette party plenty of rooms plenty of beds everything is as pictured. You can tell that this is a party house because there’s stains on all the pillows and in the carpet from what looks like throw up. Communication was lacking but overall great stay.
We enjoyed our stay. Lots of beds but folks do have to share rooms; if you have a big group that doesn't need private rooms, this is an awesome place. One tip: you have to bring your own soap for the showers, as soap (or any shampoo) is not provided. There is hand soap in a dispenser on the wall, however. Great house for a big group; very nicely decorated.
We loved the house. We had 11 and rented both sides. Plenty of room, loved the snacks abs drinks they had waiting in the kitchen so we had a minute to get settled before running back out. The home is great for group, excellent location for adventures in the Garden District by foot abs the rest of the city with easy, central access.
We loved the location and hospitality of this property. Thankful for the thoughtful groceries provided. The house had everything we needed and was perfect for our group. Could use some restocking of dishes and glasses, but wasn’t a problem since we didn’t eat at the house much anyways. We had a great weekend exploring NOLA!
