About this property
Tuscan-inspired Vineyard Estate
Welcome to Casa Sebastiani in the city of Sonoma, just a short walk from the shops and restaurants in historic Sonoma Plaza.
What We Love About This Home When you stand on the veranda of Casa Sebastiani and gaze out over the vineyards below, you are sharing the experience with generations of the prominent wine family who stood here before you. Built by August and Sylvia Sebastiani in 1947, the property is a leisurely stroll up from the acclaimed winery.
Exterior Details A grove of olive trees and rustic stone walls define the approach and a remarkable profusion of flowering plants create a tapestry of color. Birds of Paradise, trumpet vines and fragrant lavender surround the home, along with numerous fruit trees heavy with succulent oranges, lemons and apples.
The gracious hand-hewn stone home was fashioned after a Tuscan villa with its arched entries, deep porches and expansive terraces. An old-world air of hospitality is apparent in the design and the setting.
The sun-filled terraces and decks that encircle Casa Sebastiani offer views on all sides and the dappled shade of the ancient live oaks beckon for a meditative stop under their tall branches. Large boulders are interspersed with indigenous plants and trees and masses of blooming flowers, creating a natural backdrop for special events.
This is a place that has been connected to a significant part of Sonoma Valley’s history ever since 1904 when Samuele Sebastiani acquired the vineyards of the Franciscan fathers who originally planted them in 1825. From those humble beginnings the winery he founded grew into a name known around the world. Now you can fashion your own bit of history in these splendid surroundings.
Interior Details A circular walkway leads up to the deep, tiled porch with its stone arches and carved wooden door. Inside a wide entry opens to the expansive living room, which can accommodate a cocktail party or a casual family group. The room features a grand piano and gleaming white marble fireplace; floor to ceiling picture windows frame beautiful scenes of the flowering landscape, bringing in the natural, golden light that warms the vineyards.
The home has recently been redecorated and upgraded throughout, retaining the authentic Italian touches that express its origins. The queen bedroom off the living area offers a relaxing glimpse of the tranquil scenery. There is a small sitting area and a flatscreen TV and a Dutch door to the outside. The bath has a stone tile shower with tiled bench seat, marble vanity, two closets and privacy windows for plentiful light.
A separate queen guest suite can be entered from outside or through the kitchen area. Completely remodeled, it has a stone-tiled bath, bedroom and views of the stately oaks. Upstairs on the second floor are 3 bedrooms: a large king primary suite with a floor-to-ceiling window for private views of the soaring shade trees, and doors that open to a sleeping porch where you can lounge in the shade on a summer afternoon. A marble dressing table area connects to the bath where there is a tub, shower and separate toilet.
Down the hall are 2 bedrooms, 1 with a queen bed and 1 with two queen beds. Each room has views of the vineyards and access to a veranda with an ornate wrought iron railing that runs the length of the house and provides time for quiet contemplation. A shared bath with shower over tub and a toilet separates the two rooms.
The kitchen, always the heart of a home, is where Sylvia Sebastiani tried out her recipes for the scrumptious sauces and hearty Italian meals that are included in her popular cookbook, Mangiamo! Let’s Eat. Newly upgraded for today’s cooks with granite counters and tile floors, the kitchen has marvelous vistas of the fruit trees and vines, and a huge flowering poinsettia with bright red blossoms frames the view. You'll be inspired to try your own pairings with some of the fine local wines around the oak table in the kitchen, or create a splendid meal to enjoy in the formal dining room.
Arched windows and doorways out to the lower veranda are a hallmark of the congenial indoor-outdoor lifestyle treasured by wine country residents. The veranda has a long carved stone table with umbrellas that seats 16 for alfresco dining, and a charming rock bridge takes you to the sparkling turquoise oval pool (not heated).
Beyond the pool is a 2-car garage, and a short stroll down the hill brings you to a guest cottage. The rustic, natural wood-paneled cottage has a living area, a small kitchen and a large, appealing queen bedroom that faces the vineyards. Doors open to a wooden deck that wraps around the house and creates a delightful private guest getaway experience.
Guests staying at Casa Sebastiani will enjoy access to BeautifulPlaces pre-arrival assistance. Our local staff can assist with pre-trip suggestions for winery visits, private chef dinners and any other special experiences you desire. On arrival day you’ll find a bottle of local wine and gourmet coffee waiting for you in your villa, and our team is available during your stay to answer any questions you have.

This house was perfect for our group of 12 - there was so much space for everyone to spread out and we loved that we could walk into town! The windows and views were amazing and everyone thought the beds were extra comfy. We would stay here again for sure!
Casa Sebastiani was the perfect retreat for a friends' reunion over Memorial Weekend! It's ideally located—easy to get to local trails and wineries, the town square, groceries, etc. And the property itself had everything we could have wanted, from plenty of communal space for group dinners to a great pool for lounging on a lazy day. We wanted a place with enough room so that our larger group could all hang out comfortably, and the beautiful views and comfortably appointed rooms made things even better. Our hosts were excellent, with clear, proactive communication and great attention to detail (I appreciated the driving directions sent in advance, wifi information easily accessible upon arrival, helpful regional suggestions, etc.). Checking in and out was a breeze. We will absolutely be back!
Host was very communicative from the start leading up to the trip. Responses were very friendly and quick. The host was also acccomodating in letting us know when we could access the property (earlier than anticipated!) and was flexible with a later check out time for no additional charge. The property was gorgeous and very clean. We had no issues or complaints while we were there, but I am sure the host would have been quick to respond and assist if anything came up! We had a lovely stay and it was walkable to downtown Sonoma which was super convenient. Would love to return one day.
This is a large and spacious home which was ideal for a large family gathering! The six bedrooms comfortably accommodated all of us, and the large kitchen, dining room and gathering room, made cooking, dining and spending time together effortless. The views and outdoor gathering areas were spectacular. The host was terrific with communication!

We can’t overstate how great a location this was for touring north of San Francisco. From Sausilito, Redwoods and the Golden Gate to the South, the beach to the West, Napa and Sacremento (ballpark for the As this year), and Santa Rosa to the north, everything you could possibly want was an hour or less away. And walking distance to the square, eateries and wine tasting, of course! Yet the Casa Sebastiani felt peaceful and protected up on the hill, with incredible views from morning to night. We housed 9-10 adults without difficulty, and the thoughtfully stocked pantry made it so easy to cook/grill our own meals. Not all the rooms are renovated to “modern” standards, but the history all over this home more than made up for it. The grounds were well maintained and picture-worthy every day. This group has stayed in villas all over the states, and this was our favorite by far. The Beautiful Homes folks were accommodating and delivered everything they promised. What a great week!
Excellent property and location. So nice looking at that view when you wake up. Our host was very attentive. All very smooth. Everyone loved the house.
Great house in a great location. The place was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The views from the property were beautiful, especially in the mornings and evenings. It's close to Sonoma Plaza, so it was easy to get to restaurants, shops, and tasting rooms. Would definitely stay here again.
We loved our stay at Casa Sebastiani! It felt like the perfect extension of our Sonoma visit. Great location, so comfortable, and we loved the magnificent views and gorgeous property.

Wonderful experience at the Casa Sebastiani! The location was great with a short 15 minute walk into town or great neighborhood walks. The views were wonderful and the grounds were immaculate. A deer family visited and hundreds of hummingbirds. Highly recommended!
We gathered as a family to celebrate Thanksgiving and visit vineyards for wine tasting. The house was spectacular and perfectly equipped for our needs.

Villa Sabastiani was a perfect venue for my family reunion. The property was ideal for young & old. We all had enough space & quiet places. It was clean, quiet & comfortable I give it full marks for satisfaction
The location is fantastic close to downtown. The history on the house is amazing! The interior can use some touches and the beds were extremely uncomfortable, but being with the family was the best.

Thank you Kelli. I'm happy to report that 2 of the beds had been replaced and now all the other beds have been replaced even though they weren't that old. Entry rugs and other tables and furniture pieces are being replaced and we're going through the house updating where necessary. We appreciate your feedback and we took it seriously. Thanks very much. We had an amazing stay at this family estate home. The basement game room was a great surprise full of Sebastiani family photos, The kitchen was nicely stocked and the rooms were comfortable. We enjoyed coffee in the morning while listening to the birds and watching the deer visit. The dining room, living room and kitchen all have huge windows to take in the view. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
All 3 generations agree that this home and property made this vacation one of our best. There are spacious rooms for gathering together and plenty of cozy areas for quiet time. The balconies, multiple outdoor seating areas, and the conveniently located pool are great. And plenty of history not to be missed in the basement!
