About this property
Papa's Cabin - 40 acres & 5 acre lake!
Nestled in a rural country setting amidst Amish country, this spacious and rustic cabin sits on 40 acres, just 3.8 miles from the small town of Middletown, MO. Enjoy a lake for fishing, wide open fields, fire pit areas, and a BBQ space.
Though this old cabin is far from fancy, it offers a clean, tidy, cozy and quiet atmosphere, even as we continue renovations and an ideal spot for your next staycation with ample room to explore the outdoors.
This cabin-style farmhouse has seen many upgrades, with more on the horizon. Inherited after the unfortunate passing of our father, this beautiful property holds countless family memories—from fishing and BBQs to family gatherings. We’ve decided to share it with others, hoping they’ll create lasting outdoor family memories too.
Simple yet charming, the cabin offers a full view of country living. It’s an ideal location for watching wildlife, fishing in the lake, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet on 40 acres all to yourself!
Located in the heart of Amish country, we provide a map of local homesteads where you can shop for unique goods and furniture. *check out our guidebook!*
Although secluded, the nearby town of Middletown offers essentials like a gas station and a bar & grill. Bowling Green, a 20-minute drive north, features unique shopping, restaurants, grocery stores, Walmart, and more. It is 40 min. to our "wine country" of Hermann, and 80 min. to Columbia.
The living space is rustic, clean, and spacious, perfect for multiple guests or a large family. Enjoy sunrise views from the back porch with your coffee or through the large windows in the wide-open den, offering beautiful views throughout the day.
Recent upgrades include hot water heaters, lighting, fresh paint, and refurbished furniture. Inside, the cabin is cozy and bright, with ample natural light.
The entryway features a coat rack, laundry closet, pantry, and sitting area.
The den has a reading nook with a futon, full-size couch, recliner, and a large, cozy chair by an electric fireplace. The main bathroom includes a vanity with storage, a stand-up shower, and a toilet.
The formal living room has a TV with guest use firestick, full-size couch, recliner, desk, and is perfect for sunset views. The dining room contains a hutch with games and a rustic table seating six.
The master suite is cozy with a queen bed, large walk-in closet, tv with fire-stick and a private bathroom with a new tub/shower combo, and of course, a toilet!
Another large spare room features a queen bed, twin-over-full bunk bed, two large closets, a dresser, and a Fire TV.
Covered porches facing east and west provide perfect spots for enjoying coffee, nightcaps, and star-gazing.
We’re excited for you to experience what this serene cabin, expansive acreage, and community have to offer!
*** PLEASE NOTE: As we’re still renovating, you still see that the carpeting in bedrooms and formal living room are old but clean!***
All 40 acres, including the lake, are available for your enjoyment. The storage room is to remain locked, and guests are asked not to use the two shops closest to the road.
We love getting the opportunity to meet our guests if it suits them - no pressure :)
No neighbors in sight. 40 acres to yourself right off of a lightly traveled paved road. Enjoy the sounds of nature!
Ample parking in large gravel driveway.
Basic amenities are provided for your stay. Our welcome booklet includes coupons for local eateries and bars!

About the host
Hosted by Tracy Brookshier
My name is Tracy, and I am your main host. My siblings are part of our story here too; my older sister Lesli and younger brother, Chris. We have been hosting since late 2023 and have enjoyed it so much. We are very outgoing people who love meeting new friends; and by hosting we have been able to meet so many amazing families from all around the US!
Why they chose this property
We inherited this property after the unfortunate passing of our dad in 2022. We have had this property in the family for 20+ years and we just could not part with it; unforunately, we also inherited the mortgage. So we have decided in an effort to financially be able to keep the property; we would share it with others so that other families could make as many memories here as we did!
What makes this property unique
Our property is 40 acres in the "middle of nowhere". Our guests come to enjoy the outdoors and the peace and quiet! The small road that gets you here is very lightly traveled and the open space makes great for night star gazing. People love fishing in the lake, taking the paddle boat out and exploring the property! We have been renovating the cabin and are still finishing things up but it has come a LONG way and we have worked very hard in hopes other will find it just as comforting as we do!
