Located in Sarcoxie, this farm stay is in a rural area. Lazer Force Lazer Tag Zone and Regal Northstar are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore Noah Brown's Prairie and Carver Prairie. Maccaroo Gyms and Candy House Chocolate Factory are also worth visiting. Discover the area's water adventures with water tubing, fishing and swimming nearby, or enjoy the great outdoors with hiking.
Stirling Cottage, a spacious 5-bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom whimsically remodeled farmhouse sleeping up to 17 is situated on 60 beautiful, serene acres, about 8 miles south of Carthage (the website incorrectly says Sarcoxie,) providing the opportunity to explore nature, watch/play in the laughing creek, or sit on the deck, slow down & enjoy the sights & sounds of the country...
PLEASE NOTE: I cannot accommodate animals indoors because so many of my guests have allergies. The base price is for six guests. Extra guests (up to seventeen, are $20/person/night.
Also on the property is the original (remodeled) Milk House which can sleep up to six people (4 on beds plus 2 airbeds or cots) and is booked separately, and Thirties, the apartment below Stirling, which sleeps four - also booked separately. (As of August, 2025, both are currently rented full-time which could change - don't hesitate to ask!)
The farm is a perfect location for small family reunions, personal or small group retreats and celebrations of all kinds, accommodating up to 26 people, when each place is booked.
"Twigs" is the large master bedroom, with king-size bed, chaise lounge, shabby chic decor, and views of our east fields.
"Vintage" offers one king bed and one double antique bed. Four large windows showcasing stunning sunsets, and the other antique furniture create a "vintage ambiance." (There is also a trundle bed under the double bed.)
The "Sunroom" is the smallest bedroom on the main floor, but lets in the grandest light w/two walls of windows. A comfortable daybed with trundle underneath allows two people to enjoy this sunny room.
"Maps" and "Blooms" are two dormitory -style bedrooms on the second floor with half-bath. "Maps," is decorated with artifacts and antiques and has three twin beds (one is X-long) ; while "Blooms" is decorated with bright colors, floral fabrics, and wicker. It has four twin beds.
PLEASE NOTE: To repeat: I cannot accommodate any animals inside the house. Because we are a working farm, there will sometimes be farm activities going on while guests are here; and a few people including my handyman, mowing crew, myself & members of my family may come and go discreetly as we take care of the land and the animals. My son makes a security run through the property, checking the creek & closing the chicken coop door most nights.
The nearest neighbor is a long stone's throw away, so the peace, quiet, and beauty of this farm will gently roll away the demand and stresses of life. Add to that, beautiful St. Gertrudis cattle, the softly clucking hens, some affectionate, but strictly outdoor cats - and you have the idyllic environment of Stirling Cottage.
I love to host family reunions, getaway and craft retreats, birthday parties, anniversaries, and events of all kinds! Please contact me for specific pricing. (Ask about my discount for active clergy and active military personnel.)
Please note: Because of the popularity of Stirling, I have a strict cancellation policy: ---full refund for cancellations made within 48 hours of booking, or if the check-in date is at least 21 days away ---50% refund for cancellations made at least 7 days before check-in. ---no refunds for cancellations made within 7 days of check-in." However, in some circumstances, I have been able to make exceptions when the space has time to be rented to others so it never hurts to ask.
Here are some additional amenities that may interest your group:
MASSAGE: I am acquainted with an experienced massage therapist, who brings her table and supplies to the property. One recent guest who has experienced professional massage therapy in many of her world-wide travels, said, "Elise gave me the best massage I have ever had!" And another said, - “ Elise gave Rich the best massage he has had since we left Arizona 20 years ago!” (Advanced notice necessary-payment made directly to Elise.)
CATERING: There are also two caterers within five miles of the farm: Angie Smith – catering – smoked meats, etc. Mende Staggs – cakes and full meal catering. Communication and payment made directly to them - I can provide contact information after a booking is confirmed.

Our group of girlfriends have stayed her several times. Its a very comfortable home with plenty of space to stretch out. Multiple beds and delightful decor. No need to worry about packing extra items its all there. There a nice deck outside and plenty of outdoor space to roam around if you like and enjoy the
The house was lovely! A country home, quiet, the house was very welcoming and comfortable! Each room had it's own theme. The host was accomodating and very helpful. We would absolutely stay here again!
The atmosphere is quiet and pleasant. Plenty of room for a large group. Everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Mere is so kind and enjoyable to visit with.
Our family had a lovely trip to the area, albeit short. The home, communication, hospitality, and convenience during our stay was fantastic. Thank you again!
Just a delightful stay! The accommodations were seeped in history and lovely, but the hospitality was even better. A wonderful experience, and highly recommended if you are considering a stay. Definitely a super host...

Amazing place to stay!!!
The place was very clean. The home owner was very courteous and nice. Great place for a family get together. Overall experience, great! Would definitely recommend to anyone who’s looking for quiet country setting.
Loved this property. Plenty of room for our group while we visited family in Sarcoxie. Much better than staying in a hotel! Kids enjoyed watching the chickens each morning. Will stay here again on our next visit!
Nice, relaxing, and spacious home for a large family or combination of families. Highly recommend.

Super place
Lots of things to like about this sweet house. Roomy, comfortable and clean. Great for families with the upstairs bunk rooms and the grounds to explore.
This was our second time there and it was perfect.
This place is a hidden gem! We felt safe, the place was clean and the hostess was most gracious. My grandkids loved the animals and the creek. It's close to several fun attractions, and is less than an hour from Springfield. It was a perfect place for our family!
The house was spacious and quirky. There were great outdoor spaces for the kids to run around and entertain themselves. For an extra $30 the host gave us a tour of the farm and let the kids interact with several animals.
The house is very beautifully decorated. We just loved the design of each room. There was lots of room for everyone to be comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with any kitchen items a person may possibly need. We definitely plan to book again in the future
We loved staying in this farmhouse! It was big enough for all of us with so many bedrooms and a large living area. Plus the kids enjoyed the chickens, cows and cats and all the room to play outside. It was close to Joplin and the Precious Moments Chapel which was the reason for our trip. Also, the host had fresh bread waiting for us which was delicious! They made you feel at home and was very fast to respond when needed. We would definitely stay there again!
For the second year in a row, our family has gathered at Merre's farm to celebrate Christmas. Merre greeted us with hugs, a lit Christmas tree and warm bread. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are clean. Best of all, she has stocked the kitchen with nearly everything you need to make meals for a crowd, except the food! Our family of 9 is very happy here, and we plan on continuing our Christmas tradition here.
The property is awesome. The owners greater us and checked in to make sure we had what we needed.
We had homemade bread and fresh eggs at checked in and offers to assist with carrying things out as we left.
Many of us have it on our list of possible places for personal needs as well as a revisit for 2014.
Away from the congestion of the city but close to town and many wonderful day trips and eating experiences.
5 stars are not enough for what this has to offer.
Merree Is such a wonderful person and helped go over the property when we checked In ,even the rules about the lovely little barn cat. The place was so amazing and so much room it was unbelievable,we couldn't even use all the beds that were in the house. Plenty of kitchen and filled with everything you could imagine and if we had any problems finding something she answered our questions immediately. Loved the property and location and everything about this rental. Its such a joy to have such a WONDERFUL host!!!!
