These are some of the most spectacular vistas in all of Cape Breton: endless ocean, beach and Sea Wolf Island (framed perfectly, as if for your personal pleasure!) You don't just enjoy the views- you hear the ocean beside you, lapping at the rocks below, sometimes crashing; it's almost hypnotizing. Check our short video in the "Photos" section.
The supple leather couch in the living room is the perfect spot for connecting with friends, (which is easier than ever, with a fast fibre op internet/ wifi connection). Dig into a good book, or just enjoy the view. You can watch storms develop on the horizon, and play themselves out before they ever reach you. As evening turns to night, relax and take in the starry night skies, and steady cadence of the flashing light of the island lighthouse. Most summer evenings -many with brilliant sunsets- are cool with breezes, which are great for sleeping.

About the host
Hosted by stewart applegath
I have been living here for more than 20 years, and Bell grew up in Cape Breton, in Margaree Valley, just 20 minutes away. We met in art school in Halifax, and after living in New York for a few years, we moved back here permanently in 1997. We both love Cape Breton, which comes alive in June and the weather stays awesome until October. There are plenty of beautiful places to explore here, even if you have lived here for 20 years!
Why they chose this property
I built the cottage in 2015-16; there was a dramatic spot on the property with spectacular views. It is a lovely location with wild roses all around, juniper vines and fabulous unobstructed views of the ocean. The views of the ocean, Chimney Corner Beach, and Sea Wolf/Margaree Island are simply amazing. There is also all of the privacy one could want. This building is a perfect getaway for a couple; there's just nothing else like this cottage in Cape Breton. There's a real sense of romance and intimacy here, a multi-level deck, which is stunning- what an incredible panorama stretching out before you! You hear the sounds of the ocean all of the time- really a soothing thing.
What makes this property unique
Cape Breton is a spectacular place, and the scenery on this stretch of coast is particularly striking; the mountains, dramatic plunging cliffs and ocean make a stunning combination. it can also be dramatic, with 130 kph winds at many points of the year. The ocean is warm enough for swimming in the summer, and we see some of the most dramatic sunsets anywhere, watch whales play in our front yard, and fishermen haul their lobster traps each year. Moose, eagles, deer and foxes are regulars.
You are also close to the Cabot Trail (5 minutes), the National Park (25 minutes), and other towns and villages (5-15 minutes). If you are a golfer, you are close to Cabot Links & Cliffs in Inverness, which offer one of the great and unique golf experiences in North America. Cabot Cliffs is now ranked 9th in the world (!!) and was developed by Ben Cowan-Dewar and Mike Keiser (who developed Bandon Dunes in Oregon). The acclaim for Cabot so far is pretty much unanimous-from the New York Times to Golf Digest.
You can also take advantage of local restaurants, eat freshly cooked lobster or crab, and be only a short distance from one of the best hiking networks outside the Park, between Mabou and Inverness. There's also a fantastic boardwalk in Inverness, only 18 minutes away, which winds its way along the oceanfront, beach and golf course. Check out renowned crafters in the area; quilting, rug hooking, and folk art can all be found locally.
