Why they chose this property
My spouse (who is Costa Rican) and I had been searching for property near a beach for years. We wanted somewhere remote, atypical – far from the tourist crowds and resort development that has transformed so much of the coastline.
The moment we crested the hill from Bejuco and saw the expansive beach stretching out below, backed by green hills and farmland, I knew Playa San Miguel was the place. It felt like discovering old Costa Rica – the Costa Rica my spouse remembered from childhood.
What I enjoy most: the sunsets are spectacular every single night, and no two are alike. The beach rarely has more than ten people on it – sometimes we're the only ones there. Howler monkeys move through the trees behind the property. Endangered Scarlet Macaws fly overhead (there's a recovery sanctuary nearby). The neighbors are farmers and fishermen, and this is genuinely the friendliest community I've ever experienced.
For a nice dinner out, Restaurante San Miguel serves excellent high-end Costa Rican cuisine just minutes away. But mostly, we come here to disconnect, slow down, and remember what quiet feels like.
We live here part-time, so this property isn't just a rental to us – it's home.
