This is a nice efficiency room in the forest neighborhood above the Kona Airport. The location is remote and a car is needed to get to any other destination. The room is good size and well laid out for two people during a short stay. Be aware that between the frogs and local roosters it can be quite loud at night so you may want to bring earplugs.
Host was very responsive and everything was as expected. The reason for the less than perfect rating is because the mattress needs to be upgraded. It was very uncomfortable. We only stayed one night so it was manageable for that night.

It was a cozy room with a small kitchenette. We enjoyed our stay. The dish washing sink was in a common area, which was locked one day, causing inconvenience, but it was taken care of eventually. Our breaker kept getting tripped due to using the induction stove, but we were made aware of how to reset it, and it was easy after that.

Inflexible with the change/cancellation of reservation after mistake soon after booking, load chickens under the terasse in the nighttime, kitchen not really useable, nice balcony, spacious room.
Expedia was my problem - rate was initially shown before add-ons so was much more expensive than I wanted/needd and location was not convenient.

The property was very clean and well supplied. The owner left detailed instructions on entry and rules. There was local information provided which was a great help. On the other hand, the mattress was awful. Has seen better days a decade ago. You'll also want to close the door to the lanai as the neighbors are noisy. Also, starting about 3:30 am the rooster living next door starts incessantly crowing. Closing the door is necessary but makes the studio quite hot as there is no airflow or AC. The overhead fan helped somewhat. Overall, it was ok. Not my top stay in Kona

Alles sehr Gut. Einkaufs Möglichkeit ca. 1mil entfernt.
We loved our stay at Bear's Place Guest House. The location was great - a quick drive to both the airport and Kailua, but far enough out of town to feel peaceful and relatively secluded. The room had everything we needed and was very comfortable. With the windows open, the room cooled down to a comfortable sleeping temperature as soon as the sun went down, so don't worry about the lack of air conditioning!
My husband and I enjoyed this cozy studio to explore the Big Island. We didn't need to prepare any large meals while there, so the basic kitchenette and shared cleaning area weren't an issue. What we loved most was sitting on the gorgeous lanai listening to the coqui frogs in the evenings. The property is very convenient to the airport and both the beach and shoulder highways connecting the area to other sites around the island. We went diving and took several day trips. Highly recommend this as a friendly, quiet, economical alternative to resort rentals.
We have enjoyed hosting Big Island visitors for over 35 years. We have explored this beautiful island extensively and are available to help you plan your daily adventures and answer your questions. We also enjoy speaking German with our European guests.
Why they chose this property
Our peaceful little neighborhood is centrally located on the hillside overlooking the Kona Coast. Wake up to birds singing and enjoy cool breezes for happy sleeping. Wild turkeys, pheasants and many song birds raise their chicks in our garden.
