THE SURROUNDINGS:

The cottage and its charming yard are a self-contained retreat for anyone looking for quiet relaxation, but guests are also at the doorstep of one of the northeast’s hidden gems, Litchfield County. It is full of classic New England charm (rolling farmland, stone walls, and historic villages), amazing food (local farm stands for home cooking and world class restaurants for dining out), and countless opportunities to get active outdoors.

Tiny Norfolk has a cafe, library, book store, general store, and a few other small businesses. It comes to life in summer, as it is the home of Yale's Chamer Music Festival. After a day of hiking or swimming, enjoy a picnic on the town green followed by a concert in the historic music "Shed".

About the host

Hosted by Jenna McBride

Host profile image

Hi! We're Ben and Jenna. We've lived in Philadelphia for over 20 years. We love traveling, hiking, spending time with friends and family, gardening, cooking, and exploring new places, near and far. We like hosting, in Philly and Norfolk, because we get to share our favorite places with people. It's a great joy of ours to help someone have a great time in a new place. Ask us about our countless Google maps!

Why they chose this property

We love to hike - it's our favorite thing! Litchfield county and the Berkshires offer countless opportunities to get out on the trail. We love that our cottage is situated on Barbour Woods--it's a privilege to be able to access unspoiled forest right from our backyard. If you're not into hiking, there are plenty of other fun things to do in the area like skiing, swimming, boating, hunting, and fishing. And of course there are plenty of cultural activities to enjoy like food, art, and live music.

What makes this property unique

The cottage is situated in the heart of historic Norfolk. It is a short 5 minute walk to the village center, which offers a few great amenities. You can access miles of trails directly from the backyard or a short drive away. The cottage's design style is influenced by Swedish summer cottages--so you can expect a quaint, cozy, lived-in feeling.
