Amazing Stay at Sapphire Beach

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sapphire Beach. The islands are recovering from the storms nicely...the palm trees and sea grapes are not as full (and shady) as before, but are filling out better than I expected. The condo is gorgeous and very comfortable, and the owners are awesome...very friendly and easy to work with. We will definitely come back! Mike and Jules P.

Wonderful - perfect

This was our third time staying at Sapphire Beach. Each time we've rented a different unit. This was our favorite unit for certain. It is in beautiful shape - nicely updated. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware and all you could possibly need. The bed was perfection. There was a definite feel of being welcome by the little touches left by the owner. The owner was very responsive and helpful in advance of the rental. The view - as with all the Sapphire rentals - is incredible, probably the best on the island. Highly recommended rental.

Beautiful condo on best beach in St. Thomas

The condominium was as described with a new bathroom and kitchen area. We spent 12 days here and took full advantage of the opportunity to prepare meals. Everything we needed was available, including directions on using the combination convection oven/microwave. The bathroom was beautiful with double sinks, huge mirror, lots of counter space, and a spacious walk-in shower. The owner's representative was very responsive in our email exchanges and answered all questions promptly. The condo was immaculate and cleaning services were scheduled at our convenience. The bed was comfortable, plenty of fluffy towels were provided, there were fresh flowers in the dining area when we arrived, and two bottles of wine in the wine rack (to be replaced for the next guests). The beach is beautiful and provides the best snorkeling on St. Thomas. We rented a car and recommend that guests have access to a car, at least part of the time, to explore the island and take the car barge to St. John for a day trip. While we snorkeled at other beaches, we found the Sapphire Bay offered the most variety. We also benefitted from the nearby marina and booked a day sail for snorkeling; there are lots of options at the marina for excursions and sunset sails. In response to the prior review, guests should be aware that the "resort" is closed so that tennis courts, restaurant, dive shop are no longer maintained pending some type of future development. However, the five condominium buildings are in the process of exterior remodeling, including all the exterior woodwork, railings and trellis-like roof, which does provide shade.

Great location

This condo was well located on Sapphire Beach...the 2nd floor offered a great view. Nice furniture, granite counters and plenty of the comforts of home already stocked.

Great location, poor management and cleanliness

The location and view were amazing. The sheets appeared clean, but the mattress cover was covered in urine stains, and the blanket had a odor. There is no way they didn't see both the mattress cover and pad were disgusting, and still covered them up. Same with the blanket, it smelled like old sweat and body odor. The pullout couch was old with fraying fabric, and the sheets covering that bed were just as nasty. The extra blanket in the closet was disgusting too. We spent a entire day washing. I reached out to the property manager the first night, letting her know. She didn't respond. I then sent her pictures and proof, that night, and more in the morning. Her response was basically "check out now for a full refund, or deal with it". Housing on USVI is limited, so last minute everything was sold out, or too expensive. There was never a apology for the inconvenience, she didn't even offer to pay for the sheets, blankets and towels being washed. There was mold on the couch mattress, sand everywhere, and the counters were covered in some kind of oily residue. I've been using VRBO for years, throughout multiple locations. I've never dealt with this level of contempt and disregard. I could of forgiven things had the property manager been responsive and showed a little empathy. She was almost as worse as the condo. I would avoid this property.

Great Condo

This was our first time staying in a studio at Sapphire, so we were pleasantly surprised to see how much room there was. The condo was nicely decorated and well stocked. We didn't cook any meals, but could have easily as there were plenty of pans, dishes, etc... There was also snorkel equipment, books and other little extras supplied. The bed was very comfortable as were the couch and bar stools. The views of other islands and the gorgeous blue water from the balcony were wonderful -- my favorite thing about the condo. We enjoyed watching some pretty intense volleyball games from the balcony as well. The location, in building B, is great too. Not too close to Sapphire Beach Bar, not too close to the pool, so it was quiet and relaxing. Would recommend to friends and family.

Maximum relaxation right on the beach.

A great unit in the best building at Sapphire Beach. All amenities needed for a great trip including beach towels, snorkel gear, and a cooler in unit for guest use, not to mention the beach chair service. Rocking chairs on the porch were great for after beach drinks and reading. Two minute walk to Sapphire Marina from which we took a sail and snorkel tour on the Nightwinds. Info book in the unit was a wealth of information with helpful tips and restaurant menus. Overall a great unit at an amazing location that stimulates relaxation from the moment you step foot on the property.

Great location!

We stayed for a little over a week and this condo was in the perfect location for us. A short drive or taxi ride to many places to eat and things to do. The property could use some attention (the pool area is pretty rundown, especially where there used to be a bar/restaurant) but this condo is in great shape! We totally enjoyed our stay here!

Pool was available but area around it is still being worked on.

We had a wonderful time. Condo was beautiful but was unable to use the deck on a few days because of rain so would rent a 1st floor condo next time because they have a covered porch.

Home Sweet Home!

This was our second stay at this unit and it doesn't get any better. Fully furnished kitchen, comfortable bed, and great view of the beach from the balcony, where we spent a lot of time.

Probably the best unit at Sapphire Beach !

The spectacular view from Sapphire Beach is one of the best in the world - definitely the best view from St. Thomas ! The beach is crescent shaped with white sand, some coral reef and clear gorgeous blue water. The resort has been dragged down by a dispute and stalemate between the land owner and the property owners. So some amenities you might expect are not there, or are there in disrepair. There is no permanent restaurant or bar. The public bathroom is not so nice. But if you go for the nice accommodations, the gorgeous beach and especially the exotic spectacular view, you will be happy. We LOVED it ! NOTES FYI : The C building is being renovated with jack-hammering during the day. This was not a bother to us, but avoid end units in B and D which are too close to C. We read reviews of pumping trucks making a lot of noise at all hours. We did not see or hear this at all. There's a new little makeshift outdoor restaurant by the beach for lunch (only) and drinks which is nice.

Sapphire Beach Resort is in poor condition

The resort has deteriorated over time due to an ongoing legal battle between the condo owners and the developer. As a result, many of the common facilities are boarded up, in disrepair, and/or closed....such as the swimming pool bar, the beach cabaña, etc., etc. A septic truck pumps the sewer a couple of times a day making lots of noise because of the dispute. The area just does not feel loved and cared for. Our condo unit was nice enough except the air conditioning did not cool…. making for some restless nights. And, the access code provided by the owner on Home Away did not work. Fortunately the on-site property manager rectified the access issue by giving us a new code. However, the air conditioning repairs were short lived. The coolant re-charge leaked and the temperature immediately rose. The TV remote control was broken and some of the light bulbs were burned out. The location is convenient and the beach is beautiful. However, the accommodations were not up to our expectations.

Relaxing & Beautiful!

Our 1st trip to STT and it was wonderful. Unit is clean and efficient use of space. Comparable to an upscale hotel. Bed was incredibly comfortable. We took taxi's to Red Hook for great restaurants & grocery shopping. We enjoyed the rum left in the room and we donated some too! Snorkeling was great. The beach is an easy walk from the unit. Not enough words to express the gorgeous views. Don't miss the panoramic look out point! We will be back!

Georgeous and Conveinent!

This condo was beautifully decorated and had absolutely everything we needed for our stay. We are beach lovers, so being steps away from the turquoise water was nothing less than perfect! Having a full kitchen available for our use made having our 5 year old with us much easier and allowed us to prepare our own breakfasts and lunches for the beach. There are plenty of delicious dinner dining options in the area since it is only a couple minutes drive from Red Hook (Duffy's Love Shack was fun!). This close proximity to Red Hook was great since that's where the ferry goes out of to get to St. John. We spent several days at our own relaxing Sapphire Beach but also went to Coki Beach (water trampoline, hair braiding, beach bar/food service) and twice to St. John beaches. Overall, the vacation could not h ave been any better!

Wonderful!

My husband and I've just returned from 5 fabulous nights @ Sapphire by the Sea-Blue. We went to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, and while prior to our departure, I had many sleepless nights of guilt for not taking our children, etc., it turned out to be just what the doctor ordered. The condo is a quick drive from the airport (maybe 30-40 min) and is only a 3-minute drive into Red Hook. The condo is fantastic. Lovely décor, very comfortable mattress, extra supplies and touches to make us feel comfortable, UNBEATABLE view, safe....just ideal! When we first arrived I was concerned about having a 2nd floor condo vs ground level and hoped it wouldn't prove to be inconvenient for beach access/quick run in for drinks, etc. Once we got down to the beach, we realized it was so much better than a ground floor unit (Unless our kids were with us--then ground would have been helpful). The 2nd floor offers views above the trees, which aren't available to the ground floor. Breakfast and drinks on the deck with that view? Ahhhh..... Additionally, Building B is the way to go! Parts of Building A are obscured by the beach rental building, plus there's probably noise in the a.m. Building B has the benefit of being on an unobscured beach with white sandy swimmable beach 30 feet to the left and nice snorkeling beach 30 feet to the right. Buildings C-E are on a snorkeling only beach. I also heard that some cruise ship people are bused to Sapphire Beach--that never happened while we were there and there were plenty of cruise ships in port during our vacation. The location to Red Hook is so ideal. We rented a car and therefore never used the taxi service, but if you don't mind a steep uphill climb to the road, the taxi service does come frequently. The condo was super clean, excellent shower--just perfect. The owners of the condo are actually the in-laws to the original condo I wanted to rent (which is located next door and can have an adjoining patio if you want to unlock the doors) and therefore much of my interaction was with Joanne. She was the most helpful, kindest VRBO owner I've dealt with yet. She answered numerous emails I sent w/ questions galore and had some great advice for us. Just a great person!! You will not regret a decision to rent this condo!!

Loved this condo!

This condo was so comfortable!. It looked just like the pictures and had everything as described. It was clean, quiet, had a comfy bed and a great view. It was in easy walking distance to the pool, the beach with amazing snorkeling and the marina where we chartered a fishing boat for the day.

July 2013

The interior of the unit was nice, but the patio and property were very disappointing. The patio was fully exposed to the elements as there was no overhang, other than a wood trellis-like cover that looked to be singed and whenever it rained, would cover the patio with debris. Ostensibly, one of the advantages of a patio would be to sit outside when it rained, or to get out of the sun. This did neither and was therefore useless. As for the property more generally, very disappointing. The first thing we noticed when entering the property were the abandoned tennis courts (hence Saphire Beach "Resort"). The pool had a boarded up Tiki bar, and at the other end of the property, there were a number of abandoned buildings, which looked to be a former restaurant and jet ski rental. Adjacent to this complex were a series of units that looked to be government buildings (cheap, functional construction) but were actually condos. A very annoying "service" were a couple of servers schlepping drinks on the beach - one was a woman that interrupted to provide a menu as well as her phone # so we could call for service. She had no memory of having handed my wife a menu not 5 minutes before. The other server was far worse - a guy with a visor and fake beach bum hair that fancied himself a stand-up comedian and using the same MO as the former, interrupted to provide his schtick. Why would I order a drink or food when I am just steps away from my own food and drinks? As for the beach, it was OK - beautiful water, but the abandoned buildings were very unsightly. Getting in the water was also a bit of a challenge as it was pretty rocky. It is well worth the drive to Megan's Bay - we felt as if we had really wasted the first couple of days hanging at Saphire Beach. We had the impression that Red Hood was much more 'beachy' than was the case; there were a number of good restaurants and bars but they are only safely accessible by vehicle. It is VERY unsafe to walk as you are on a winding, narrow road with nowhere to go and literally a couple of feet away from traffic travelling a 30 - 35 MPH. This is not a pedestrian-friendly island. As for shopping in RH, nothing but a few convenience stores - not a place you would hang out for the day (unless sitting on a bar stool). In short, a rental is essential so that you can enjoy Megan's Bay, hit the grocery store, and go out for dinner.
